at my school if u were absent *once* you were automatically presumed dead and even when u came back the next day, everyone who at least kinda knew you would act like u were a ghost and everyone had increasingly elaborate and bullcrap stories on how you 'died' my school was glorious

Honestly, I'm becoming more convinced every day that, with the exception of a very few small private schools, not homeschooling is a form of benign neglect at the best of times.
That the band teacher was fricking a junior. He sure was. This being the 90s, they just quietly non-renewed his contract, and he went up the road 30 miles where he taught for the next 25 years.
Our high school district hired a young male teacher for a certain subject. Lots of teenage girls developed an interest in this subject (I’m being deliberately vague here), while some may have actually required subject for future education goals , a lot did not. Fast forward a decade or more - a former classmate I had run into tells me this teacher was arrested for inappropriate/sexual contact with female students.
i’ve only ever had two. in my elementary school it was rumored that a) my 4th grade health teacher was super mean and once threw a chair at a student. it ended up being the exact opposite. b) in like the 3rd or 4th grade, a new student was held back because she was really tall and looked older than us. i never saw the end of that because she moved away. i think it had something to do with her being in foster care.
There was an ice cream truck stopping by our school during summer. Some idiot started a rumour that his ice cream had 'worms' in it. I don't know if they were thinking of salmonella or parasites or what have you, but it really hurt his business. I don't think most students really believed those rumours, but trying to buy something from him was guaranteed to get you some jeers and off-hand remarks, so it may have felt like too much of a hassle.
To clarify- legal point; age in most cities, US places would NOT matter. A teacher or staff member would still face court charges, be accountable. Even if it was a male, 17, 18. Or a female 18, 19.
There was a rumor at my middle school that a lot of the teachers had a secret basketball team for fun. Nothing dangerous, nothing bad, nothing crazy, just some of my teachers having fun.
That a girl in my high school was caught having a three way with two boys when the class was watching a movie thought no one was that stupid turn out it was true mother worked as an aid in the middle school and was in the office when the mother picked the girl up from school she was screaming and calling her names
not sure if i had a sick day or not during this since it was years ago but the previous night i had scrapped my knee by being a dumbass walking in the rain. but when i went to class one of my mates told me how I had died. though we did have quite a few kids with my name and I wouldn't say it's common so he might of had us mixed up. closest thing Ive ever had to rumors in my school that I know.
That the art teacher and pe teacher were secretly together and fricking in the art supply cupboard ….never confirmed the fricking part but me and many other students saw them exiting the cupboard together in passing through the shitty cheap school blinds that are basically see through even when drawn but unfortunately the cupboard had a lockable door so obviously we couldn’t see inside to confirm but could see them enter and leave.the year after we left school a(this all went down in our second to final year )they had a kid. Last I heard they’re getting married and both still work there lol
During my second year of high school I was transferred to another school, but I still kept in touch with my friends and other acquaintances from my previous one. There was a rumor that a girl from the same year who got pregnant. Reason being is that she fainted during morning ceremony. That same girl was also rumored to have aborted the fetus that she was carrying when the school got suspicious. I never got it confirmed if it was true, but she was never seen again that same school year. What's somewhat amusing is this rumor originated at a staunchly Catholic school, so... yeah.
