Was in the marching band in high school. We went to an away game at a high school we had never played (just changed divisions that year). We get to a block away from the field and someone directing traffic tells the driver to turn up a hill and come around a different way to drop us off on the correct side of the street.
Well, that hill leads to a dead end and now the bus has to back down the hill all the while kids are screaming and one girl's having a panic attack.

Not me but my older sister, the class got the history teacher divorced and the bus driver fired on the 8th-grade field trip to Washington DC, early 90s. While checking into the hotel, some of the students spotted Aerosmith checking in (IDK if it was or was mistaken identity) and decided to go looking for their rooms later on. The adults had put tape in all the student's doors so they could tell if anyone had left their room without permission so they had to escape via the balconies. The balconies were connected by a slim ledge all leading to a ladder-type fire escape. We were on the 4th floor. It wasn't long before 911 calls rolled in with reports of kids crawling on the outside of the hotel. The cops soon found the history teacher's room as this was her class's trip & pounded on the door which when opened revealed History teacher in lingerie with the bus driver in his boxers.
History teacher got divorced & bus driver got fired lol

The summer between junior and senior year I went on a school trip to Europe with 7 other people. The way this company booked trips was by organizing one itenary for a bus that fit thirty people. Among the people who filled the bus were students and chaperones from other cities/states who also signed up for that itinerary. Anyway our first stop was Germany, introductions are made and we get familiar with the 2 other groups. On the second day we stop at a plaza/outdoor market in Munich. Our tour guide tells us to meet by this fountain at 3:00 pm. The chaperone for my school confirms with her individual charges the 3 o'clock rendezvous. We acknowledge it and partner up to go explore. At some point before 3 some of us meet randomly somewhere and agree to go back to the fountain together. We arrive there, see the couple who was part of our group but always did their own thing alone, and wait. The seven of us talk amongst ourselves and eventually realize that we are the only group waiting. Fast forward thirty minutes of more waiting, and by this point we start to panic. We don't want to admit it, but it seems like we were left behind. It doesn't make any sense though. We all heard the same time, and that couple said they had returned to the fountain thirty minutes before the rest of us did. If the tour guide and other groups had met and at least waited for a little while they would have seen it. There's an easy way of finding out what happened, right? Just call and have them pick us up. Well, in order to stop roaming charges in Europe everyone had to set their phone in airplane mode. So we couldn't call. Luckily wi-fi calling is a thing, so we search for an open internet connection. We find one, so problem solved, right? Nope. Our chaperone had done many trips like this before, but she never had a situation like this happen to her. She had no idea who to call. I think she ended up contacting a representative or something for the trip. We find out we *were* wrong about the time by like an hour and a half. The bus left with the other groups according to schedule and headed to our next stop, a concentration camp (I forget which one). The representative gets in touch with our tour guide and they work out that they can pick us up after they are done at the camp. Okay, that just means waiting another 2 hours. This time we stick together and make sure to be back with plenty of time to spare. We arrive at the fountain yet again and wait. We are there for maybe forty minutes before my chaperone gets a call: the bus broke down and the other gruops are stuck at the concentration camp waiting for it to be repaired. We are told to wait another hour. Off we go to explore. We get another call: it turns out the bus can't be repaired and is instead getting replaced. We have to stay in this market for another two hours while the other groups get picked up, then they will come for us. Finally after five or six hours total the bus picks us up. We never hear the end of it. For the rest of the trip everyone makes sure to repeat over and over what the meeting time is. The tour guide makes it a point to personally confirm with us individually every time. It was such a nerve-wracking experience at the time, but now it's a great story to tell. Also, at some point in our explorations we wandered into a nudist park and a girl from my group made an ass of herself by taking a picture. Fun times.

finally a reddit thing i can respond to!
so not a teacher, also not my story but my moms
so i have a diabetic friend, and one field trip my mom noticed him just sorta... being quiet. when we got to where we were headed my mom told the nurse that came with him like "hey [insert kids name] was being quiet on the bus ride here you should check his blood sugar" the nurse had checked it before we left but just in case she called him over to check and, wouldn't you know it, he was LOW. so ya that's how my mom helped one of my friends probably not DIE.

I think the craziest thing that happened on a school trip for me happened BEFORE the trip.
I was in a High School symphonic band, and it was my last year of high school. We had a charter bus booked to take us to the northern part of the province (I live in Canada, but I won't specify where) to perform at a few schools, and stay at motels in a couple of mountain towns.
However, on the day we were supposed to leave, the driver of the charter bus FAILED to show up on time - the driver ended up arriving 90 minutes late. THere was a few times the band teacher/director had to call the bus company to ask for the driver's whereabouts. Firstly, the driver ended up in a city north of where we actually were, and then accidentally ended up at a Catholic high school in our city. Said Catholic high school wasn't opened yet, and that school's principal had called to complain to the company that the driver had caused damages to the school's parking lot and tore up their newly-seeded lawn. Our school was several blocks from the Catholic school, so the driver (according to additional complaints) sped down the main road and swerved around and was cutting off other vehicles. When the driver finally arrived, he ended up on the opposite side of the school where the rest of us where standing (in the student parking lot, as the band room was located to a nearest exist where we could haul out larger instrumental equipment), forcing him to drive around the acreage of land the school was on and enter the parking lot.
When we finally were able to leave, the driver ends up overshooting a curb and causing tire damage.
Because we were so late getting out of the damn parking lot, we were forced to cancel one of our performances (which thankfully was the only one that day). When we got to a small town in the north part of the province, all of us changed out of our concert blacks (We wore black clothing for performances) on our lunch break. Moments after we reassembled on the bus, the bus driver drives to the nearest tire shop, where the owner of the charter bus company had the original driver removed and replaced with a more competent driver, and took the 1st driver home.
We later learned in the following band practice after the trip that the first driver had some emotional crisis at home, which explained why he was so late coming to pick us up. As anyone with a modicum of driving experience would know, having negative emotions behind the wheel can easily impact one's driving. The kicker? The first driver was a new hire at the company in question.
We don't know what happened to the first driver after he was driven home; if he either got reprimanded or if he was fired.
But that 'incident' was the least of our one of two worries on that trip...

During an annual trip to a local nature reserve the 6th graders took, two boys (they had separate bunk areas for the boys and girls) managed to tip over an entire cast-metal bunk bed. The principal (who had taken over just about 2 or 3 months prior after the previous principal resigned midway through the year for another school) ended up taking them back to the school, though not without helping for most of that day. He was nice from the brief time i was still there.
A few days later, the 6thers (who were to go into a different school the following year) had a trip to a local park. This being one of the last days, in June, it was almost 100 degrees Fahrenheit, and the fact they didn't call a heat index day off was a miracle. The school was prepared, tho- they had us have "water fights" (water guns, soaking hacky sacks, sometimes just straight-up using the public fountains) to stay cool, and we had a picnic held under a group of gazebos. Fun times, fun times.

Took a party to Germany. At Cologne three 18 year olds went next door into the refreshment coach. Suddenly the railway workers disconnected it and it rolled off. Came onto the other side of the platform so a colleague raced on board as it shot off. At the next station the colleague and three girls rushed across to our train. Relief! Oh no -:they'd disconnected the front end of the train this time. Our carriages shot off backwards. Further down the line we all got off to catch a local train. Sound of racing feet - we were all together again at last! An unforgettable journey.

10:00 I‘m german and a student in my region once did a nazi salute during class as a ”joke“. He was expelled from school and it was all over the local news. He got some sort of punishment (bc it was discussed on court, but the punishment wasn’ttoo hard because he‘s not an adult yet).
Seriously, never do a nazi salute or else in germany. It’s not funny and you‘ll very likely get in big trouble for that. Just don’t do it.

The only story I have is our bus breaking down on a summer camp trip. We still went on the trip. And once on the way to senior ball in college the door broke somewhat. The only moderately interesting thing was we had a camping night at this nature camp I was at and the adults lost me 2 years in a row. First time I wandered off. Second time I was literally with like 5 other kids. I don’t know how that happened.

two 8th grade trips I was on as a student, first one was a trip to Nashville, TN to go to Opryland USA this was in 1998, well we get there and it closed, not like closed for the day, it had closed permanently. The couple buses pull up to a security gate as we teaches try to figure what to do, they talk to a guard. Eventually they found some one who gave us a tour of the The Grand Ole Opry even getting to walk across the stage, I thought that was cool. Second field trip was to the Space Center in Huntsville, AL., we made there and the class had a great time. but on the way home we had to stop a few times to dodge tornado producing storms this was also the same day a strong tornado went through downtown Nashville and one of the cells we dodged produced the F5 tornado that hit in Lawrence Co. TN

This not only endangered my life, but also I hate my teacher and the others harassing and giving me a hard time making me mad enough making verbal abusive insults, disputes and accusing them of violating me and my refusal to go on the trip. I hope they all suffer horrible consequences for what they did to me. This Durham Forest trip threatened and endangered my life all the way! I hold Durham Forest endangering my life as a direct result of their incompetence.
