Description of the episode:
The master sleuth hunts his archenemy, Professor Moriarty, who is planning the crime of the century. - ภาพยนตร์และแอนิเมชัน
No idea Ida Lupino starred in this series. So lovely, so natural in the role when other women overplayed their parts. Didn’t know she was a director too!
I used to watch these with my father in the fifties and sixties. He would imitate Nigel Bruce. He found him quite humorous. Oh I miss him!!!
Watched this Dynamic Duo with my roommate Friday nights in college 1973-4. My roommie enjoyed mimmicking Watson. That's "immortality!"
I never get tired of these Sherlock movies! The Best two actors for the roles👍🏼👍🏼👏🏼👏🏼♥️
I can't believe I haven't seen this, I watch Rathbone and Bruce every night, the old movies interest me and calm me down for sleep, I've watched them s thousand times.
Lol...me too! I've just found this one myself.
. Me too!!
I'm also quite familiar with the series of films and have never seen this incarnation.
me too the soundtrack is so nice compared to all bass edgy new crapolla
This is my favorite and yes, it is hard to find
Ida Lupino was luminous in her youth. Wonderful actress, then producer and director.
And here I am watching it on May 11th!
and, here I am on May FIRST (11+ months
later)
@@robertwalker5521 Nice!
Thank you so very much for this upload. Nigel Bruce and Basil Rathbone were my favorites. R.I.P. gentlemen. 💙
Rest In Pieces, gentlemen.
I watch them all the time. They just make me feel good.
A great classic movie with cool Ida and Basil Rathbone the best Holmes. 🥰
This has been called one of the best Holmes films with Basil and Nigel, because they kept them in the Victorian era. I think this is my favorite of the ones starring them, although the more modern series starring Jeremy Brett made by Granada films appeals more.
HO VISTO TUTTI I FILM DI SHERLOCK HOMEKS MA QUESTO EPISODIO NON LO VISTO MAI , E MELO GODO ADESSO IN PACE , VADO PAZZO PER QUESTI FILM SPECIALMENTE QUANDO PIOVE SIA NEL FILM E SIA NELLA REALTÀ,MI RILASSA MOLTISSIMO, QUESTI FILM SONO BELLISSIMI ,, CARICA SEMPRE FILM COME QUESTO OK GRAZIE CIAO 💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
Pienamente d'accordo.
Love how homes an moriarity jab each other in the cab.
Lovely Ida Lupino...great acting by all great movie thank you for sharing🎉
Loved Basil Rathbone Holmes..i have watched every episode minimum 10× each and will watch on my deathbed...i also fell in love with Ida Lupino after she uttered the words "Theres death in every note of it"...after a wonderful career as an actress and director i was pleasantly surprised to see that she also directed several episodes of a great series "The Fugitive" on YT
Sumptuous lighting and Lupino cast perfectly, thanks for posting this gem.
This is such a great episode. I love how Watson teases Billy about his apron outfit, is annoyed to no end by Billy, and casts a withering glance at the young lad after Holmes exposes Billy for kicking the dust under the carpet.
Such a clear, clean copy of this excellent film!! Bravo!!
👍👍
Very cool , thank from the US ✌️
I have been a Sherlock Holmes fan my whole life and this was one I had Never seen! Wow! Thank you for sharing!
Not only was Ida Lupino attractive and a good actress, but she was an excellent director at a time when there were no women directors.
If there were no women directors, how was she a director? If she was then there were women directors.
Oh come on. Just...stupid.
I'll second that.
I learned this when watching a very good Twilight Zone compilation. She directed an episode for TZ, and also starred in one.
@@drats1279no women directors is plural, a woman director is singular thus the statement is syntactically correct regardless of veracity.
Such a wonderful Holmes and Watson!
Ah, simpler times when all you needed to get to the Crown Jewels was a big brass key and remember to turn off the lights.
I'm sure security was a lot tighter even back in 1894. It was very tight security when I went to the Tower of London and viewed The Crown jewels in the early 1970s.
Having seen this missing gem it is like seeing the Crown Jewels!
I thoroughly enjoyed this episode and didn’t realise it hadn’t been shown often. Thank you.
I thought I had seen every Sherlock ever made! Thank you so much for posting.
I love the pull the sash to summon servents thing. I can't help wondering how many obscenely rich people have tried to reintroduce that affliction into their lives in the 21st century.
Yes, that was a uniquely inventive British contraption to facilitate its rigid class structure.
An excellent Holmes/Watson/Moriarty adventure. I thought I’d seen them all, but was pleasantly surprised to have missed this one.
It’s always a pleasure to see Miss Lupino on screen as well. One of her earliest performances. An exciting and fast paced adventure from beginning to end. Thank you!
I wonder why Fox Corporation did not continue the series and why they all ended up at Universal.
@debwell7248 - Miss Lupino later guest starred in a couple of episodes of a TV series featuring another great detective - Lt. Columbo.
She and Walter William were in one of two light mystery movies...twas a great match .
So glad you posted episode 2- it seemed to be absent in virtually everybody’s playlist- well done & thank you!
John- Philadelphia 🍦🍷🫖
There's an episode 1!? Where can I find it? I looked everywhere but all I can find was a link to this same episode
AGREED!!! A very happy surprise to find this episode that I could not find for a few years! I especially enjoyed artistry of the images, the artistically designed angles with lights and shadows arranged to heighten the mood of certain scenes. What fun, too, seeing Sherlock Holmes as the entertainer at the party! Thank for posting this treasure.

@@numbersandreality search for The Hound of the Baskervilles 1939
Sir Arthur wanted to end the series so he sent both Homes and Moriarty over the cliff. Public demand though brought him back.
Basil Rathbone and Timothy Brett the two best Sherlock Holmes ever!!!! Really enjoyed this one, Many thanks for the up-load!
Jeremy Brett, but I agree he was the consummate Sherlock Holmes.
Finally, someone who loves both and doesn't choose one over the other. They're completely different. Even the Russian version of Holmes movies are good. The only lousy ones are the modern blockbuster versions.
I absolutely agree with this statement..Both are excellent ,but I do have a soft spot for Jeremy Brett..
Downey did @n excellent turn

Naish was near pathetic.
This is the best team ever of holmes & Watson thank you for the uploading of this marvelous crime fighters ever
I STILL LOVE THE OLD RADIO EPISODES POSTED. I USE MY OLD TIME RADIO APP ALOT❤
The Best of the Series, in my opinion. Thanks for posting it.
Watson is always hungry
Holmes rarely is 😂
picked this up on vhs not long ago, glad it's here...
Обожаю этот сериал
Good movie for a rainy day.
PERFECT NIGHT IN MN RAINING NIGHT. THUNDER ,NO LIGHTING...
I thought I seen all of these movies 😮 but now this is awesome 👍
I enjoyed it . A first for me. I love these two as Holmes and Watson.
Ida Lupino was only 21 yo in 1939 and later was a major star through the 60s. I didn't know until now she was British
Thank you.
Angel Chester 091407 ? Until
Wonderfully entertaining 👏 thank you for the great video 📹
I THINK I SEEN ALL THESE MOVIES SINCE I FOUND THIS CHANNEL. I HOPE THEY. HOPE THEY PUT MORE ON THIS CHANNEL..I LOOKS LIKE THEY JUST GIVE A FEW TO WATCH...
Great film and beautiful print.
WARNING: SPOILERS- Was surprised that Holmes was on his back foot for so long. A few times, mid-film, I though Homes was just playing along and planed to spring the trap in the final act. But no! And nice turnaround having Moriarty chasing Holmes in the climax. Nigel Bruce's excellent comic timing worked as a perfect foil for the smug Holmes. It what a fun bonus, letting Watson get the last word!
I'm rating The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes as the best of the all the Baker Street films.
Apparently the head of Fox at the time wasn't wild about the two films they made and let the rights lapse, which Universal snapped up and continued making them throughout the 1940s to much praise and fanfare.
I've never seen this one! Thank you so much.
E aqui estou eu assistindo dia 21 de outubro 2023, amo esse gênero de filme e vou me inscrever agora mesmo por ser legendados em português, obrigado pela postagem e vou ficar aguardando outros filmes! Feliz Domingo.
Thank you I enjoyed this segment of the collection. 55:42
Love how little Billy mean mugs Watson when Holmes busted him . Awesome!
one of thr best ones, ever. ❤
Is the stage singer actually played by Basil Rathbone? If so, best job of disguise anyone's ever seen!!
I guess so.
Fooled me!
This is I think 1 of the 2 period movies before they unfortunately changed to the modern era.
In this serie Moriarty is played three times by three different actors and he dies every time.
yes!
It just goes to show you, you can't keep a good villain down.
The best one in the series
Oh! My! Gosh!! Never seen this one. Love. It!
Great classic ❤
I guess it was from 1939 ! a very good chapter considering the year !
Thank you for uploading , great stuff.
I never understood how Moriarty dies in the first one of the series, but comes back after. I have watched the 39 to 46 series at least 20plus times. There is not a bad one in the bunch. And I think I will watch The Hound of the Baskervilles right now, my favorite.😊
THANK YOU FOR SHARING THIS CLASSIC LOVE IT
Боже, как ты напоминаешь мне Маяковского Шерлок!
Brilliant
Love this movie. 😊🎉❤
@ 3:00 the lead into the most
unusual *entrance to a vehicle
that i have every seen.
just take a moment, to marvel
Darryl F. Zanuck does it again. He has never made a film that wasn't excellent.
Anybody know why everybody's Basil Rathbone playlist is missing this one?
I'm pretty sure the main playlists were made with an Adventures added, but that movie was since removed. If you go into the playlist and "show hidden videos," sometimes you can see the now-defunct Adventures. But somehow, this video has managed to be found by yt and also by playlist creators 😂 so who knows. I've tried posting links to this video on Hound/Baskerville videos but not sure anyone seems to really care.
Thanks 🙏 for this :)
Billy, Terry Kilburn is 97, seemed to have retired from acting in the early 60,s.😊
Excelente
Me consegue o Episódio Um 1,vou ficar aguardando, obrigado pela atenção! Sou mais um inscrito, por ser legendados em português!
Dont you love the "absolutely not London" exteriors.
Basil Rathbone ( surname translates to silent killer) was THE best Holmes
Thank you!!
Intriguing!
I BELIEVE THAT IDA LUPINO WAS 16 OR 17 WHEN THE MOVIE WAS MADE.
love Nigel Bruce
Holmes got some stinky finger behind the bushes!
The acting is a cut up from other actors and actresses of from later time.
Come ,Sumi.❤❤
Sherlock and Moriarty are both dunces.
The year is 1894. If they put their heads together, they could develop the airplane, and beat the Wright Brothers by almost 10 years. Instead, they screw around with tawdry crime, playing Cat & Mouse games.
Did the flies in the glass die ?
This was 94 years ago.
Sorry where is episode 1. Thank you
First film was Hound of the Baskervilles
This was the second.
After that the films were produced by a different studio and were set in the modern (at that time) era. All of those were low budget compared to the first two.
20th Century Fox production before the later Universal ones
Better enjoy quickly .. it’s under copyright by Paramount .. could be removed at anytime
I hope they dont---that would be a crime against humanity!!..
Thank you for posting this. Why isn't the girl wearing mourning at the party???
why do they ruin these old movies by speeding up the sound so one can’t understand a word that is said often times making the viewer miss clues to the mystery.😡
3/29/2023: at 67 after watching this uncounted times I heard it was some high ranking officer named “Blood “ who originally stole the crown. Please help me here……. Captain Blood stole the crown that the professor was yanking the stones out of and Holmes
So sad that Dr Watson is an idiot!!! The screen writers/plays such as this one seem to think that helps the plot. Maybe because the screen writers aren't too bright aka lack the imagination of the original author. Anyhoo... i do love these productions with all their faults!!! Keep 'em coming!!!
This is a rather complex movie compared to many other produced by the same studios. Well worth watching folks!
I've watched all of the other Rathbone movies starting in 1942 I think and then this one of course titled Episode 2 FROM 1939.
Is there no Episode 1 or 3? why have 2 without a 1?. I couldn't find anything on it

@@robertwalker5521 yes I’ve read that the more modern ones were basically American propaganda films. In The voice of terror SH is fighting the nazis.
Isn’t this the 4th time moriarty “ died” ?
9 lives lol.😂😂😂
Why was Dr. Watson respected and listened to in these early Sherlock Holmes but treated like a dolt in later ones.
Sherlock, what school did you go to,,,,,
Elementary my dear Watson , elementary !
OMG!!!❤😂 AWESOME HOLMES AND FUNNY A.F. WATSON...SO LOVE BOTH
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Oh, bummer! Holmes killed Moriarty.!!
The killer walks with his limp as the woman desperately runs... yet the limping killer catches up to the woman after she stumbles and freeze with fear then faints. Typical early 20th Century depiction of the helpless female.
If they weren't fainting or screaming they fell and twisted their ankles.
KIRK: All right, Mister Spock, what do we have? A creature without form, that feeds on horror and fear, that must assume a physical shape to kill.
SPOCK: 𝘼𝙣𝙙 𝙄 𝙨𝙪𝙨𝙥𝙚𝙘𝙩 𝙥𝙧𝙚𝙮𝙨 𝙤𝙣 𝙬𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙣 𝙗𝙚𝙘𝙖𝙪𝙨𝙚 𝙬𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙣 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙚𝙖𝙨𝙞𝙡𝙮 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙙𝙚𝙚𝙥𝙡𝙮 𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙧𝙞𝙛𝙞𝙚𝙙, 𝙜𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙨𝙝𝙚𝙚𝙧 𝙝𝙤𝙧𝙧𝙤𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙢𝙖𝙡𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙥𝙚𝙘𝙞𝙚𝙨.
The same way as in Western movies, how the posse of many horses goes faster than the single rider, and they always catch him.
@@terranceparsons5185Yeah women twist a lot of ankles, don't they? In my entire life I don't think I've ever twisted my ankle.

At least four.
