At the end of row 2 should you not have done 3 chains before the last double crochet to match the 6 chains at the start?
Question. When you say skip 3 chains you are actually working into the 4th chain?

Great question! You can of course use it from the outside, but pulling it from the middle will help keep it from rolling all around. Totally your choice, happy crocheting! 😊💖
