    Marc, just wanted to let you know that your videos really got me interested in Seiko, and because of this video I purchased a SBDC051 from your store. I am an avid collector and have watches from Patek to Rolex to GP to Omega to Panerai and this Seiko I find to have the best value for an everyday diver. I also purchased an SKX from you because everyone says you have to own one, but this model is 10x the quality. It might not have the same prestige as my submariner but it’s a damn good watch. I strongly recommend this watch to anyone watching.

    You have not emphasized it is one of the few Seiko divers with a sapphire crystal. I think it is a solid all rounder tool watch. Thank you very much for the video!

    Hi Mark!
    These are 2 very fine watches!
    You come across (in these videos) as someone that really enjoys his work! And that is always "refreshing"!
    I want one of each!
    Thanks again for a very fine presentation.

    My SBDC051 that was purchased from you just arrived. It is perfect. This was my 1st watch purchase online, out of country. Add one more satisfied customer, due in no small part to your videos.

    I JUST GOT ONE, TODAY! I love the look, it’s definitely a cut above the SKX, turtle, sumo, samurai and even the shogun. It can easily be a one watch collection, just get a stainless steel bracelet a shed load of straps, sorted! Great review, once again.

    Wow....
    I just rolled on a Seiko sumo, I had no clue Seiko was going to come out with a 62mas inspiration.....
    At what I consider affordable price.....
    Those watches would be deserving with the old school waffle watch strap (AKA) the Vietnam War/ (Apocalypse Now)
    Amazing,I need two or three months to get back on my feet, so I can purchase one.....

  • @LastNineBreaker
    @LastNineBreaker 7 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    Speaking of people complaining about the new Presage line. I think Seiko went the 4R35 route to make the new Presages cheaper, thinking they would sell better in the US market with a lower price tag. Unless they plan to widely distribute them, I think it was a miscalculation because, c'mon, only watch addicts like us that are "in the know" have any clue what a Presage is, and boy are we picky about our movements. Seriously, though. The 4R35 and 6R15 are the same design to my knowledge, just different alloys used in the mechanism. The 4R35 is still a damn good, simple movement.

    • @islandwatch
      @islandwatch  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I do agree with you. My watcher is not the core Seiko customer by far.

    • @ХристоМартунковграфЛозенски
      @ХристоМартунковграфЛозенски 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I'd also agree that the 4R35 is a very fine movement, however it doesn't have the "cachet" of the 6R15, which is a higher-tier movement (at least in my opinion) and is "better", somehow (more accurate + 50 hour power reserve). And you're right about the distribution/marketing stuff. Well said !

    Quality is right up there with any Swiss timepieces.

    • @kingsi4869
      @kingsi4869 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @RandomUser221 in all honesty the 6R movements are actually fantastic pieces of timekeeping. I've been lucky that all 3 of my watches with 6R's have all been well within COSC specs with my single 6R35 watch being the better performer, if seiko put a little more time and effort into regulating these movements before throwing them out of the factory doors you would probably find that far less people would have the complaints they do about it. I mean my anecdotal experience can be attributed to luck, but more often than not I hear and read that the movements performance far exceeds expectations.

    Marc, The bracelet does have the pin and sleeve. I actually purchased both watches from Japan and also picked up a bracelet from Hong Kong off of eBay for the blue model. It was the exact bracelet. I compared it with the bracelet from the SBDCO51 and it matched exactly. I have to say that both watches are also stunning even on the rubber strap. I have small wrists and these watches wear remarkably well. To be honest, the blue is my favorite, but I enjoy both of them.

    Hi Mark I just bought the sbdc055 for my son on his graduation and it said its manual winding but when i go to wind it, it never tops. I went as far at so 200 turns and it never tops off. Does any one know whats going on? My other watches they normally top at around 40 to 60 turns. Also can I get the Bracelet of the 051 and use it on the 055. I think it would be great to have both the rubber for the pool and the Bracelet for him to go out to dinner with his girl. Thanks for all your great videos Love the info.

    • @FatSamEIE
      @FatSamEIE 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Luis Padilla it’s automatic not manual wind so you can wind it but it won’t stop like a manual wind only watch- and you don’t need to wind past 30 winds as long as it’s being worn.
      The bracelet fits perfectly- there are two kinds, one with polished centre links and one with brushed(my favourite of the two). You can pick them up on eBay anywhere between $110-200 I think 👍🏽

  • @Lee_K_5555
    @Lee_K_5555 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Finally -- a milled clasp, sapphire crystal, and it's actually all aligned! Things are looking up for Seiko. Now, about that 3 Hz 6R15 movement... I have the same movement in my Sumo and it's just okay. At least ETA gives you 80 hours of power reserve when they slowed down the frequency of the 2824-2 to become the Powermatic 80. I do hope Seiko seriously considers bringing the 8L35 down to the lower price range, or perhaps considers making the 6R15 a little more competitive against the 4 Hz ETA and Miyota movements, or even against its own 4R35.
    I would be very interested in learning what the bezel insert is made of.

Don’t hate me for this but I put a handmade leather strap on it from Vintager straps and it’s super comfortable, I’ve also worn it on Natos it’s a strap

    Great review. Think the blue will be eventually offered with the bracelet? So tempted to buy the black now!

      You can buy the bracelet off of ebay total cost would be about the same as buying the black on bracelet.

    I bought the SBDC051 on a recent trip to Japan. I actually like the SBDC053 more, but I prefer the SS bracelet. I think there's also the SBDC055 PADI edition.

    At 9:18 the chapter ring does not appear to be aligned with the 12 o'clock marker. Pretty disappointing for the price point.

    • @islandwatch

      I can attest it is pretty much spot on. The misalignment is parallax.

    The blue one kind of reminds me of the blue (1521??) squale. Which do you like more the SBDC053 or the SBDC047? One more of the throw back, the other more modern, both beautiful imo :D

    • @islandwatch
      @islandwatch  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +kalisti2323 I like the blue of this better. But it's not the 1521 blue. If anything, the Squale matic navy blue.

    Still waiting for the prices to come down further. I expect the black dial SBDC051 to come down to $700. I'm seeing it now selling for $798. The blue dial SBDC053 is selling usually for $100-150 less.

    • @islandwatch
      @islandwatch  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Shipmate The blue is less due to the bracelet.

    • @shipmate3577
      @shipmate3577 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Figured that was the case. Unlike most Seikos, I like the bracelet on this one. That new rubber strap (same one on the new Turtle/SRP777 I believe) is amazing. The keeper is perfect... the buckle is a bit big, but stylish. I'll buy the SBDC051 w/bracelet for $750. Great video Marc.
