Well um. . . . . . I guess people in the comments section understand the difference in terms but I myself still am confused not about the difference in terms because I guess the words were well explained but I guess what I'm saying is I wud not be able to watch a movie and figure out which one is which in so much as I am hearing it all so I wudnt think about oh wait only the people on screen can hear that or this so hmmm
Sam Rowe can the characters hear it? That’s the difference. Clearly, characters do NOT hear soundtracks in a movie, right? The don’t hear narration either. Just pretend what you’re watching is real life. When you hear a dog barking outside, that’s normal, that’s diegetic. You don’t ever hear “tense music” when you’re tense, do you? But you do in a movie. That’s non-diegetic.
Now 150,000 people incorrectly learned how to spell diegetic... honestly, you should at the very least add on screen corrections during the video so people know. I’d just take it down and upload a correct version because it’s pretty embarrassing.
I really like when media do the last type: non-diegetic that turns out to be diegetic. Nice video.
Any reference to Blazing saddles makes for a nice video.
if you say so

This is one of the best explanations that I have come across on the topic. Thanks.
Thank you so much. Perfect explanation and video for the laymen like myself.
thanks this help cleared these terms up for me
thank you really cleared up my confusion
Thanks bro, Amazing video, keep it up :)👍
Thanks i love the audiotary pics
That last one had me cracking up XD nice stuff
Spelling matters, dudes. A person looking for "diegetic" or "nondiegetic" sound might not find this.
Great examples and VO, except mispelled ‘Diegetic’ in captions!
So helpful. Thx!
If the students get and misspell it, does it mean that they didn't really get it?
BTW, thanks for this, I would love to use it with my own students!!
ok but why is the sound quality of this video so bad? I was hoping that if the topic is sound it should be easily audible
Really helpful. Thanks a lot.
so what would u call it if the audience hears the diegetic and the non-diegetic but the character doesn't hear the non-diegetic?
That's the definition of non-diegetic: the audience hears it but it doesn't exist in the character's world.
Thank you!
So weird how teachers find these 🤔
Arthur Upton ikr
