Sometimes you search for a video and luck out and find a nugget like this one. Thanks for sharing.

Nice clear overview of beacon function, flux lines, and basic searching overview. Thanks!

Thanks for this video. Appreciate both the accurate description of the process, and the details of how the transceiver works. I've owned 2 BCA beacons so far, and content like this makes me happy to support you guys the next time I need a replacement.

Ever thought of attaching a receiver to a small drone and automating the "run" part of the search to narrow things down using something that can move quickly without being bogged down by snow? I'd love to discuss the concept if you are interested.

Brilliant Video full of great information and advice. With respect to the point about wearing the transceiver under the outermost layer of clothing, what do you recommend when putting on and taking off layers? Keep taking the transceiver on and off so that it's always under the outermost layer or, wear it under the last layer that is likely to be removed?

Thank you so much! I have been absolutely lost looking at transceivers!
Yikes! At the end it looked like he was trying to drive a stake through the heart of a vampire! I’d be praying for a dog at that point!

The Alpine Ex- a becon transmits a signal but doesn't do more.......a transceiver both transmittes AND receives. Any type of 2-way radio is actually a transceiver such as a walkie talkies, CB radio, or police radio. A becon only transmits for a receiver to pick up but can't receive.
An AM/FM radio is a receiver you can listen to music that's being transmitted but can't talk on it.
When a shipping vessel sinks in the Atlantic they may have a becon that once it floats it continually transmits a signal to be tracked but doesn't receive any message from the coast guard it just transmits.
      Hope this helps.
One's just a transmitter, one recieves and transmits, and one only recieves.

@@pyrofful Yes, technically it's a transceiver, so we're trying to use that term more and more (but need to stick "beacon" in there every once in a while for SEO purposes ;)
