A lot of people act like this is a terrible album because to some its not quite as good as their normal great, but I actually really liked the album and even more so after seeing them do it "From the Basement"
dude i used to be an insane the king of limbs hater. then i thought to myself "is this as bad as i remember it being". i re-listened to it a few months ago and it easily became one of my favorites. it is for sure a grower and i like it way more than hail to the thief. glad to see that you also loved it like i do.
that's not new for a Radiohead album lol, I like it when music has to age. It sounded like Cosmogramma by Flying Lotus, and sounded similar to what I'm making now, I was shook
They basically constructed, the deconstructed - sliced, snipped, sampled, and looped them back together with rhythm as the driving idea overall. The "From the Basement" is INCREDIBLE, as they then had to figure out how to make all this work live, and it sounds even better than the studio album, most people prefer it, significantly, but many of those people likely were let down more by the album that you were. Plus as a big bonus it has IMO the 2 best tracks, left off the main album, released later as a single from the live basement session. Spark one and melt into that Basement concert, thanks for the vid my man!
first time i listened to this album i was beating carpets outside -- i thought it was kinda unfinished.. felt like there might be a sequel. but i liked it. i still like it. i had a friend who beat his head on his yoga mat cos he was so angry about it
Okay i'm done watching, I'm happy that you liked it. The live from basement version has 3 more songs that are not featured in the album, they are like b-side from the same era, and they're all amazing!
This was an insane time to be a Radiohead fan. They were just coming off of In Rainbows, which was a HUGE fan favorite (and I think it's pretty overrated tbh), so when this went in a completely different direction, fans weren't happy. Then because it was so short, and the last song is called "Separator," there were all these conspiracy theories that this was actually just the first part of a two-part album. And when that didn't happen, fans were pissed again. Personally, I've never understood the hate for this album. It's one of my favorite Radiohead projects, and I think the sounds have aged remarkably well. You're totally right to pick up on the Fela Kuti references - "Feral" in particular. I put this as either my 3rd or 4th favorite Radiohead album, and I come back to a bunch of these songs very often, particularly "Bloom," "Separator," "Give Up the Ghost," and "Feral." Nice reaction.
So pleased you got to hear King of Limbs, and appreciated it. Very toxic record in the RH fanbase, but I like it more than the first two albums. I also love the Smile and all of Thoms solo work.
Definitely one of my favorite RH albums. Sometimes you just need to hear it.

I really fuck with the sound, like I said it feels similar to what I'm creating. I was surprised. I'm gonna watch the Live by myself tho

You'd think RH fans would understand that a lot of their music cannot be understood until later, you grow with the music.
I like it too but you really like it more than THE BENDS?? Whaaaaat
I respect your opinion though
