@@ramon_1506 then just get a prebuilt, most budget laptops dont have gpus that are heavily inflated and if you are getting a laptop with a expensive gpu then at that price range you can probably get a prebuilt at the same cost or even maybe less

Also, if you want to do gaming, please get a pc, prebuilt or not it's so much better. Laptops do not have the space to fit in the oversized CPU, and the graphics card, and the extra ram that is so necessary for good quality, smooth running gaming. I spent a whole $700-$800 on my custom built PC from Amazon (my GPU was give to me and it was probably another$400-$500 is about $1,000 all together), which is about the same you're going to spend on a "gaming" laptop. Laptops also aren't really designed for great air circulation like PCs are and tend to overheat when you stress them which can cause damage to the motherboard, the CPU, the battery, and everything else inside. Please if you want to do gaming, especially while streaming, please consider getting a PC, even if it's pre-built because you can replace some of the pieces later, but a "gaming" laptop just cannot handle gaming and/or streaming and it's going to burn up much quicker than a PC and you're basically through out $400-$1,000

i spent $2,500 on a custom built PC from a local PC building store and it's def worth it. Prebuilt from amazon has issues 9 times out of 10.

@@damienray2286 Honestly if there's the time building it yourself is generally the best option. It's a bit of a learning curve and some research needs to be done first but it can be really fun.
I also won't recommend doing this any time soon because there is a giant chip shortage and computers are waaaayyyy over priced right now.

the battery on mine was bulging and warping the case, so we got it taken out and got a new one, but the guy who installed it did it wrong and now i have to have it constantly plugged in or it will instantly shut down

@@yellowcatgirl It's from the ROG series that ASUS makes. It's ~6, almost 7 years old. It costed around a grand but I got a bunch of discounts on it since I had family working at the store and it was the last one they had. I'd recommend checking it out though just know they are quite heavy.

@@yellowcatgirl heat is the main issue with gaming laptops. Graphics cards and the power usage when running games is the enemy of a computer. It can melt, warp, and destroy the components that aren’t cooled, and laptop fans are not able to keep up with that kind of heat production. That heat over time will slowly kill a hard drive, making it run at glacial speeds, which can only be fixed MAYBE by replacing the hard drive.
Which I know! Because my Lenovo yoga 2 that I used only for school had that exact problem after 3 years.
Like, think of how a laptop is put together and then know that my gaming PC takes up about 30% of my PC case and has 6 different fans keeping it cool, and said PC has lasted four years so far with zero slow down despite daily use playing games, very little cleaning, and no maintenance on it’s hardware.
For anyone confused about technos "I don't have arms" bit, something in the mod messed up and he couldn't do anything that required right clicking for this stream.

Also my dad has an Alienware laptop for work and I gamed on it for a bit while my PC was being repaired. It was okay, got hot real fast with Roblox but was fine with Subnautica.
it all depends on what the game uses mainly, whether its gpu or cpu, which makes certain games run hotter than others.
How did Roblox almost made that laptop hot but not a bigger game aka Subnacious?
@@theobamahealthcare it depends on the part of the computer it uses the most (GPU or CPU), one runs hotter than the other when a large % of it is used. i dont play either game or know about computer parts so i couldnt tell you which part each game uses, but roblox uses the part that puts out the most heat, while subnautica uses the other, which runs cooler.

Coming back damn near a year after, still hurts.
The reason why I have a gaming laptop is that it runs the software I need for my architecture programs really well and I need to be able to take it to class. If I didn't need to take it to campus I would've 100% gotten a desktop. Also, a few months after I bought my laptop I messed up my back so I actually need to do work while laying down most of the time. I couldn't do this with a desktop. BUT I'm an outlier. Getting a desktop is a much better investment and is more cost-efficient. Seriously, get a desktop.
Sneegs whole thing about areas if relaxation and working is a great point. Although I had an extreme solution for my online classes. We had a room dedicated to working on homework and classwork and stuff. That room could be locked from the inside with a key. I would lock myself in and slide the key under the door to my mom. The idea was that it's essentially an escape room and would turn homework and classwork into something fun. This was entirely my idea and I didnt get the key back until I completed my homework. It worked, but it's not for everybody.

I didn't even have a desk for the last two years of highschool (quarantine time) so I just sat on my bed with my school-provided chromebook and it worked just fine lol

So I want to give a quick reason to get a gaming laptop: you move around a lot. Like, every few days going from one family member to another. It’s the reason I saved up and instead of getting a desktop I got a laptop. It was more than I want to admit but at the time it was a very high range pc. I still use it to this day, but I wholeheartedly agree you should get a desktop. I was just worried about bringing it with me so I wasn’t bored as fuck. I’ve had it since I was 15 and it still is pretty decent now that I’m 19. Once I move to a better setup I plan to get a desktop though, that will be nice.
I also just taught myself how to upgrade and fix it. I will make it worth the money damn it.

I got a 3000 dollar gaming laptop, mostly for drafting but for gaming as well. It’s runs amazing. Just in case I also got a laptop stand that has fans in it to cool the laptop down. I like the mobility and also I can take it to campus to work as well as game there. I completely agree that desktops are better. A laptop just fits my situation better for college.

I have a gaming laptop, but I treat it more like a PC, where it sits on my desk basically always charged and can run most games I wanna play with my friends. I would probably get a legit desktop PC if I could, but I would still use the gaming laptop for when I go to visit my friends and family abroad since it’s still good enough to be able to play with my friends when I’m at their house or play when I’m on vacation abroad for a few months during the summer. As long as you treat a gaming laptop like a desktop it’s not that bad. But I would get a gaming pc if I could, to replace it for when I’m at home. And only use the laptop when I want to game but I won’t have access to my desktop for a good chunk of time, like when I go abroad or like back when I used to have friends to game with that lived in the same state at me and I went to their houses to hang out.

I'd been using a $700 laptop for the last 7 years & I thought it was fine but I changed to a desktop this year & it consistently stuns me how much more space I have on the screen & that I can run more than one program without lagging until I crash. How did i ever live like this....

People who still need a laptop, even if they have a good PC, get a Chromebook. You can get them for $200 or less, and they typically have good battery life. Computing power and resolution is lower, but it gets the job done. Used one for all of high school, and I highly recommend.

I remember watching this stream and it's actually what compelled me to order an external fan for my laptop! It's great, and I can take it to class and not worry about my laptop overheating as it had in the past
as an avid PC enthusiast, i endorse the purchase and use of gaming laptops under very strict conditions: it must be used, at a good price, and it has to be genuinely used for LIGHT gaming on the go, especially for a child of divorced parents like myself. I speak completely from personal experience, so mileage may vary. Anyway, epic vid as always sneeg & firesale, much love

Sneeg is so fucking right. I built a pc with a non LHR 3060ti/ R 5 3600 for about 1300USD and bought an oculus quest 2 about 12 days ago. If I would buy a laptop with similar performance, it would cost me more than the pc and vr headset combined. It's a pain being a college student and having to move my setup from dorm to home, but it was worth it.

In defense of laptops they have one very major up side. They can be really portable and decently quick. This is awesome for me as a CS major currently attending college where I have to have a computer on me at all times and need to carry it a mile across campus one way every day I have class. They are awesome when it comes to travel and totally worth it if you need to be able to access work/school stuff at a moments notice. For gaming though I'd just get a console or a desktop depending what you have space for.
Also there is a massive chip shortage right now and because of that computers have become significantly more expensive. That might have something to do with the absurd prices. The shortage might last for a while since new manufacturing plants are being built to try and keep up with the increased demand.

its so true that you get such a better computer for your money if you get a desktop. I bought myself a omen gaming tower for $1500 a few years back and it still feels like a brand new computer. when i used a laptop it only lasted 2 years before it had constant problems and i had to repair it all the time.
another plus is if i ever need more ram i can just buy another stick for my desktop since it has 2 open slots.

On the gaming laptop topic, consider this: someone might have no space to put one in? The only possible place I could put a pc in my house is the kitchen. I have no space in my room, and I live with my grandma, she doesn’t like that kind of stuff in her kitchen (she barely tolerates the mess of charging cables on the side of the island) so until I get my own place I am unable to get a desktop, the Microsoft 8gig I got for Christmas is gonna have to do ;-;

I take notes on my computer because I type faster than I can write. I have to travel to go to classes. Therefore I need a laptop. I don't need any other computers because they would take up space. Therefore, gaming laptop. I stream from this laptop, and it works decently.

I would honestly love to see like... a full spec of what sneeg uses, really. I don't know what to build when it comes to PCs anymore. Everyone has different opinions and I can't ever get a definitive answer from anyone, but if sneeg's computer is the chocobo computer, I'd like what he's having please.
I get what he's saying about the whole pc and laptop thing for gaming, but like 80% of my time I am traveling out of state and don't have the ability to lug around a desktop so I had to get myself a pricey laptop lol
A laptop I got when I was around ~8-10 years old lasted me until only two months ago and I've had it for literally half of my life. It's not that it stopped working, but I had to stop using it because it started to crash more frequently, and since I make money with art, I had to move onto a newer laptop that's literally at less than half of the power of my original one and has already had problems after not even half a year of using it. It may look nicer and slimmer than my clunky old laptop that can only squeak open, but I can't even play Among Us on this new one :( Truly, this is the biggest tragedy.
Sneeg I hate to break this to you but as a person with divorced parents, I don't have the money to buy separate desktops for each house, nor do I have the patience or energy to transport an entire setup from place to place whenever I'm visiting
