I've watched this dozens and dozens of times over the last decade, and I'm still amazed how complex the music compositions on those old 8 bit games actually were.
Sam and I had ourselves a very successful recording session last night! Finally after months of waiting patiently/pulling my hair out, we are nearly ready to release our next Super Guitar Bros song. Keep an eye out as we should have this song posted sometime next week. You're all gonna love it! -Steve
+Alain Velásquez I think it's not necessarily that the metal covers are boring, I think it's that a lot of the people who do those covers throw on some common distortion and then call it a day. They don't mess with the composition at all to make it more appropriate. What annoys me the most are the ones who don't seem to know what a chord is and thing the distortion will make up for doing everything with a single note. Gotta throw in those chords if you want any power behind it. A tempo change would often make them more "metal" so to speak, in my opinion. Don't be afraid to change up the song at all. It is a cover!
Those are the best memories. Exploring a strange alien planet underworld filled with baddies. It felt like we were there even though the graphics were simplistic.
Good question. I guess we just weren't really feeling that one. Plus Kraid's Lair meshes so well with the opening music. Its tough sometimes to decide which songs we are going to do and which ones we are going to leave out but unfortunately we can't do every song so some have to be left out. -Steve
2:17 - 2:50 The beauty of this part of the Kraid's Lair song is that it can be played anywhere from quiet and more peaceful to intense and excited. I think you guys hit the nail right on the head.
Thanks for the suggestions. I know we're definitely going to do a Mario Kart medley eventually and whenever we get back to OoT we will do the shop theme for sure. -Steve
@SeraphXion1 Thank you so much for this comment, Seraph! When I read it for the first time I got goosebumps. This is Sam by the way. Me and Steve both log in to this channel at times. We are so so glad you enjoyed it and can't thank YOU enough for requesting such a great tune. I'm really sorry to hear about your grandpa . . . if we helped in any way by making this vid, we went above and beyond any sort of goals we had in doing it. The SuperGuitarBros send mad love your way ; )
@Iurus3 Hey lurus3!! Thanks for the request! We will definitely being doing some Sonic music eventually, I'll see about putting the super sonic music in there.
Sure is! One of the best shows I've ever been to. That and seeing Nobuo's band Earthbound Papas play at Magfest back in January. THAT was the best show I've ever been to. -Steve
@AngelofKaos Heheheh!! Good eye AoK!! I was at the show in Chicago on June 26th!! It was amazing!! Also we saw Nobuo Uematsu on stage!! What an incredible day!! So yeah, I had to wear the shirt and represent!!
That's awesome! I actually got to meet him at Magfest. Isn't he the nicest guy ever? We couldn't take time for pictures cuz the line was so freaking huge but I shook his hand and talked to him for a minute. I was so nervous hahah. It was like I was 11 years old again. -Steve
Sorry for getting back to you so late. That is a good suggestion. I didn't respond at first cuz I actually never played that game. But the music is definitely sweet in this game. We will have to add that one to the ever growing list. -Steve
Absolutely awesome. I'm standing up, slow clapping, a tear in the corner of my eye. Not only is your arrangement and execution so good, you also highlight how elegant the original composition is. I thought Kraid's lair was a bit of an odd tune in-game, barely paid attention to it, but now I realize that it's a technical limitation of NES. I totally get what the composer intended now, and it's really subtle and beautiful and ominous.
@RadicalHarmony You're talking about Kraid's Lair right? I never heard the Select Start version until just now. I went and listened to it after reading your comment. We're basically just doing a straight up cover of Kraid's Lair and it sounds like that's what Select Start did as well. So I can see how you made that connection. But no, we just listened to the original song and then figured it out on guitar and then changed the key so it would mesh with the Title Theme.
THIS... is possibly THE most brilliant rendition and homage of the wonderfully engaging, immersive music of the original "Metroid" which I've ever heard. As a child... I knew that all this music (and Koji Kondo's music from Zelda, etc.) and C-Vania... was just brilliant. But the 8-bit technology was just NOT QUITE able to express it. But now? :) SO AMAZING!
Our convo went something like this: S: Hi! It's an honor to meet you! You guys played great! You know your music is such a big part of why I'm a musician today. Ever since I played FF6 when I was 11 years old I've been inspired to make music. N: Oh. What do you think of "Dancing Mad"? S: Oh yeah!! That's one of my favorite songs!! N: *smiles* S: Well it was great meeting you! Thank you so much for everything! *insert lots of Uh's and Um's in between everything I say. Best 30 seconds ever!
OOOOOOOOH MY GOD! You guys did it for real O_O I'm blown away I just don't know what to say, THANK YOU for having considered my request so seriously, This is just so nostalgic and meaningful for me. My grand-father died a few days ago and well, you guys totally helping me get through this, what an awesome gift. You guys gave me tears XD Thank you so much, and epic performance. I just don't know what to say, this is just so epic, LOVE YOU GUYS!
I have heard several acoustic versions of these pieces and this one is the most dynamic and well orchestrated. That ending is a nice touch. AMAZING job! Brilliant, just brilliant!!!
Every once in a while, a rare gem surfaces on TH-cam. Glad I found you guys from recommendations. The first video I saw was the Sonic Medley and boy was it epic! I love Metroid and this was spot on!
Kraid’s Lair was always my favorite. Super Metroid medley would be awesome if you guys consider doing it. I love listening to all your works even if I’m 10 years late
So nice to see two people with different but great technique. Gotta say, seeing you two play makes me excited about guitar again. Also, such a great game, might have to flop it out and play it again. Thanks guys.
A+ work, gentlemen. One of the best Metroid arrangements I've ever heard (and I've been listening to them for years since .mid files were popular in the 90s).
I have been watching you guys for years, and it's like everything you guys put together is magic to my ears. As someone who suffers from several mental conditions that keep me from remembering much of my life, I am so happy to have such beautiful music to bring me back to happy moments in these classic games. I love you guys. Please don't stop doing what you do. Your songs are more than just music to some of us. Thank you!
You guys are awesome. I've never played Metroid, but have played the Metroid stages of Super Smash Bros. Melee and this sounds just like the stage music. Great job.
Awesome. I've been to a couple concerts in Chicago (Dear Friends and Play! A Videogames Symphony). At the latter I got to meet Nobuo Uematsu as well, got some signatures and a picture with him. :D
Excellent. You guys rock. I would happily pay for Ninja Gaiden, Zelda, Mega Man III, Metroid.... hell all of the NES and SNES glory days! Please make a lossless copy available!
This is fantastic! Gave me chills. My 10yo son has started playing Metroid on our NES Classic and loves the music and this video! Any chance of a follow-up Prime medley in anticipation of Prime 4?
Seriously? I f@cking LOVE you guys!!! This is the best sh*t I've heard on youtube ever. Second best is your Ninja Gaiden Medley. Keep it up ya crazy bastards! Did I say I love ya?!
I'm totally digging your interpretation of this music and love how you used a nylon and a steel string on it ... It makes the first 35 seconds sound quasi desperado\western ... When I played it in my youth I always got the vibe of a lone cowboy ( obviously I found out later a cowgirl ) taking care of buisness but in space
Your guys' videos have restored my faith in quality TH-cam videos. I'm surprised this doesn't have a few million views. Great work! Also, +1 for the other dude who suggested Blaster Master soundtrack. That stuff is also epic.
Metroid was and still is my favourite NES game

Composition's all they had back then... :/

You tell me the Metroid title theme can be done acoustically, i tell you to get the hell outta here.
You show me this video, my jaw drops
Metroid music is good acoustic or metal
any sound can, except of course the infamous brown noise

Big fan of metroid
Do you STILL watch it every now and then? :)
Yes I do
@@shakurellesgaming3775 It's just too good. Damn these guys are good.

It brings back so many fond metroidy memories.
