  • The second scripture in the Blasphemous series portends the return of The Penitent One, with a story that continues from the free Wounds of Eventide DLC for the original game, where The Heart in the sky heralded the return of The Miracle and foretold the birth of a new miracle child.
Awakened in a strange new land, and displaced from his final resting place, The Penitent One is thrust back into the endless cycle of life, death, and resurrection, with no other option than to explore this perilous new world and uncover its long-forgotten secrets.
Hordes of grotesque enemies stand in your way, awaiting final judgement by the brutal hand of the Penitent One, with titanic twisted bosses also lurking in the darkness, waiting for their chance to return you to the grave from whence you came.
Taking them down won’t be easy, but with Blasphemous 2 offering more chances to customise and improve your skill set, along with several new unique weapons to wield with righteous zeal and unending fury, victory might just be within grasp.
Ultimately, only one thing is certain… Penance Never Ends
Having awoken in a strange new land, your journey starts anew in a series of enchantingly grotesque landscapes, oozing Gothic charm and littered with unforgiving traps. How you tackle the labyrinthian world remains at your discretion, there is no wrong turn to be made, only scores to settle
The Penitent One shows no mercy, and with a series of new weapons offering new moves, brutal executions, and expanded combos, destruction will rain on any that stand in his way
Blasphemous 2 offers up new ways to play, with the ability to customise and improve your base skillset, alongside several new unique weapons to unleash devastating attacks on enemies
Hordes of monstrous foes stand between you and your goal; twisted bosses with unique attack patters and sundering abilities will put your skills to the test as you fight to stand triumphant when the dust settles
A whole new world awaits, bustling with mysterious new NPCs to interact with, some will offer aid, some will ask for it, and others will send you on death defying missions to obtain long forgotten items. With so much to see and do, the stories and myths you encounter will help you unpick the games myriad of secrets, granting you a deeper understanding of this strange new world

I chose the path of "sick fucking parries" for phase two, and I have no regrets.

Funny enough the air dash DOES deal damage with Crisanta lol.

It's funny how this boss is literally the only difficult boss in the entire game, and only because they made him hyper aggressive with barely any chance to heal or attack.

I put about 25 hours into the first game and got completely stuck / lost. I spent a few hours over several days just revisiting every area of the map trying to find where to go, and eventually lost interest. I really did like the game tho and often think about starting over again fresh. How does this one compare versus the first one? Maybe I should just play this one instead 🤔

ive recently only played blasphemous 2 after watching cowboy, and i never heard of this game before. but i got very interested in it and watched a streamer play the first one and let me tell you, this game is WAYYYY better than the first installment, and this one is a very enjoyable sequel that i even 100%'ed it.
the key differences i saw between blasphemous 1 and 2 is that:
blasphemous 1 is less of a metroidvania than blasphemous 2. what that means is that in the first game, you dont really need any of the traversal movements to finish the story, the traversal movements only need to be unlocked if youre going for the 100% run. In blasphemous 2, u need to get traversal movements to progress the game, and these traversal movements are generally wayy better than the 1st one (air dash in blasphemous 2 compared to none in 1). The traversal in 2 can also be used in fights
In blasphemous 1, the combat is very stale compared to 2, the prayers are worse, you only have one weapon, you dont have altarpieces either. imo blasphemous 2 outshines it by a lot. its flashy, its got multiple weapons, you can counterattack nearly any enemy, you can dash through enemies, each weapon has a unique style and weapon art, the prayers are divided into quick prayers and big prayers, multiple ranged options, along with the movement makes it very enjoyable. the executions even mean something compared to nothing in part 1.
the collectibles and quests are much more enjoyable in 2 compared to 1, nearly everything has a hint to where it should be taken, and the rewards are definitely worth it (a bit of a spoiler but if cowboy found another hidden sister, he wouldve gotten the power to fast travel between prieu deus)
and the most important part, the platforming in 2 is wayyyy better than in 1. 1 looked like an absolute abyssmal nightmare. traps used to insta kill you which was brutal, but in 2 they dont insta kill. air dash in 2 makes it easier to platform. and the weapons each have something to do in both the platforming and puzzles.
overall, as a person who has had the experience of checking out 2 first and then part 1, i think it is completely wrong to think of both blasphemous 1 and 2 as part of the same franchise even though they literally are. they might have the same story but goddamn this studio improved a lot and made part 2 way better than part 1 so i think you should look at part 2 as a new start and not associate it with part 1 which was brutal and quite simply, boring
(P.S. there are also many other different minor changes i havent mentioned but they do exist like the map and the hidden walls, the cherubs, etc, etc)

i think its also important for me to mention the downsides i did notice in general:
the bossfights in 2 are pretty easy. i nearly first tried all of them (except eventino, he is the hardest boss throughout the game), meanwhile the bosses in 1 are harder
no hidden bosses in part 2 (might be included as part of dlc maybe), meanwhile part 1 had a couple of hidden bosses
part 1 had more new game + and new game ++ content, part 2 has no new game + content (its a single playthrough game)

@@shirazahmed8865 the platforming lady boss got me stuck for at least two hours. Had no idea you could loop from left to right outside the map. And she'd just spam those barrels like crazy just chunking my health. Or she'd just cut the 2nd platform I'd be on and it slows the animation down and you can't jump if it's cut. Sometimes I'd jump off in time other times it wouldn't let me jump off. The time I got her I just single phased her. She wasnt even allowed to go into the 2nd phase lol. I actually first phased the mummy looking thing too.

I played both and I really enjoyed 2 more. I never beat the final DLC in Blasphemous 1 either...I could never figure out where to go or how to open the DLC content for the game? Do you know how to do it? Do you have to start a whole new game basically?? I couldnt stop playing blasphemous 2 & I literally beat it in 2 days lol The gameplay is top notch but I just never got the story to these games its so weird & confusing. As shirazahmed8865 stated blasphemous 2 is a legit Metroidvania whereas B1 was more of a action platformer...For this reason I think I loved B2 way more

@@shirazahmed8865 I totally agree with your statement. I never knew why people put Blasphemous 1 in the metroidvania catergory bc it was an action platformer much more than a metroidvania if at all...As you stated about 2 the metroidvania elements were awesome & it was also the reason why I loved 2 way way more than 1. I really hope this company makes another blasphemous game or if not a totally new franchise in the metroidvania universe bc they know how to make them after playing blast 2
