Richard Burton will always be the best. I mean, the BEST. No actor remotely of his ilk or magnitude will ever grace our screens or lives again. Extremely witty, a genius, unbelievably charismatic and sexy, brilliant, candid..:
He was very charismatic and brilliant. Brutally frank but not in an offensive way. He was a functioning alcoholic, very self destructive but with that came a flawed, damaged mystique we all identified with as he was very human. The type of guy we would all love to be, at least for a while. Funny, cutting, and honest in everything, and to hell with anyone who didn't like it. A brilliant artist and a great man.
Unfortunately, the much late lamented, almost deified Elizabeth Taylor was his nemesis. When he tried to become sober, she would accuse him of being “boring.” I would love to die whilst listening to his voice. Another man bought down by his infatuation for a second rate actress.
I think she regretted his loss. The reason that they married a 2nd time. I loved watching them act together him being so handsome and talented and she so beautiful and desirable, I think that's how he saw her. Both too narcissistic though for healthy relationships.
Richard Burton was very intelligent and read a book in a sitting..He loved words and writers and poets..He hated acting and would rather have been something else.. However I think he enjoyed the money and lifestyle movies brought him.
that s what he said too in his biography, he loved Celigny and his library there and thought he was given ridiculously much of money for very little work
Goddamn, he was so sexy with that voice and accent. Also still pisses me off he wasn't given an Oscar for Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolfe. Every one was, but him. That performance was unforgettable and raw. I have watched the film a million times and know all his and Liz's lines by heart. One of the 10 best films ever made, in my opinion. Of course he was terrific in everything he did. I love all Mike Nichols films.
For a brief while, did he shine! To lament his career choices is like wishing Shakespeare wrote more plays. His triumphs were enough--more than mine--or yours.

When Richard Burton was "on his game" and he was working with good directors like Martin Ritt in The Spy Who Came In From The Cold or Mike Nichols in Who 's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf or Peter Glenville in Becket, he was remarkable. As with Barrymore, he sinned against his talent and became dissipated and allowed himself to take acting roles that were beneath him.
Sadly he drank his talent and his health away.Men at that time were always taken more seriously, Taylor was equally as good, if not better, he was considered a little more high brow as he was known as a theatre actor.
Richard Burton was a fabulous actor. Wonder why he didn't receive any oscar, even for life time achievement. It was highly unjudicious and imprudent Bhaskar sen
Nominated seven times, and he so richly deserved it, but Hollywood took a fee years to punish Liz and Dick fir their dazzling love even after their first marriage.
Not quite. There is no such thing as a British accent, it's not used here as its to vague a term. Only the Americans use it. He had a Welsh voice which was developed for the stage, a sirtvof pseudo posh English voice, but it's the Welsh pronunciation which gives it a unique mellifluous sound. Anthony Hopkins as the same cadence if not as deep.

I have no idea if Richard Burton the person is intelligent or not. He has used the interview to do a great impersonation of Olivier playing Richard III's opening lines.
