I got up way too early for my Saturday morning cartoons when I was a kid. They started at seven, and I was up at around 6:30 afraid to miss anything. Then this would play, in 1991. God this brings back so many memories.
Any Canadian like myself who was a kid in the 80's (I was born in Hamilton Ontario 1981) remembers staying up late and seeing this Sign Off video and also "Log Drivers Waltz" and "Night Walk". I have such a strong Nostalgia now for those 3 old Canadian clips that I almost cried while watching this CBUFT channel 3 sign off.
I don't know if you're still reading this, but here is the Log Driver's Waltz on the NFB's youtube channel. I'll always love that song, as it was sung so wonderfully by Kate and Anna McGarrigle 💙💜❤ th-cam.com/video/upsZZ2s3xv8/w-d-xo.html
@@catbirdler Still here, and still love anything Canadiana from my youth. I just watched Log Drivers Waltz, Thanks for that. It actually made me think of something else I used to love as a kid. The 'Hinterland Who's Who' short animal clips made by National film board of Canada for the Environment Canada wildlife service. The little flute sound at the beginning of each clip is mesmerizing and I love it.
This used to play very early in the mornings, back when TV stations were not 24 hours (early 80s). i loved it back then, and the stillness of the outside world (no traffic sounds) added to the poignancy of the vignette. Haha, even as a small child i got what this piece was tryingto do...
Nice. Surprised that, as of '09, there was still a station that signed off. Odd, however, not to hear an announcement of frequencies and such -- unless that was done before the anthem was played.
I cheered for Canada, and I'm (US) American. It just wouldn't have been right to see Canada lose on their own ice (in their own country) playing their national sport during those Olympic games. Great version of your national anthem, and I like the animation as you move from the west to the east, Pacific to Maritimes.
Getting up super early on the weekend and turning on the TV to CBC to hear the SMPTE bars go BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP then getting the coat of arms before hearing the truly definitive version of my home & native lands anthem.
Riley GamerTV3 those tones were used to automatically turn off all of the transmitters for CBUFT’s then-repeaters; I’m pretty sure they did the same for when sign-on procedures began

A true masterpiece of my childhood. 20 years later, I still consider this an important piece of Canadian television history

haha exactly the same for me ! Every Saturdays morning :)
Same!
Same here ahah
@DoThePhoenixMikeself I was in Ste-Adele. It's north of Montreal.

One thing I love: The sunrise is realistic according to the time in Montreal (if it's 3AM in Vancouver, it's 6AM in Montreal.)

I really like the water color art in the film.

Happy Canada Day!
I remember watching this so many times late night
That's to turn off the repeater transmitters. They listen for it.
IMO the greatest visual national anthem signoff of all time. I wish the USA had a similar signoff.
This station is actually channel 26. It's only channel 3 on cable in Victoria.
I didn't have cable, I had an antenna. And this was the opening segment for channel 3.
Still, channel 3 is only used on cable in the Vancouver or Seattle areas.
But I live and always have lived, in Ste-Adele, Québec.
In which case you'd have CBFT Montreal, not CBUFT Vancouver.
I wouldn't have known, thanks.
@PatchesRips Une version vraiment majestueuse !
Watched it every morning i could

And thats when i woke up off the sofa and said.. ok time for the bed.
je me rappelle de sa.

Je trouvais sa tellement beau a voir
Was it a leap year then? lol
Maybe, but I was born October 1st 1985.
wow
yup and I still love it!
in 1991?? damn, it was already playing back in 1984!
C'est une bonne animation !
No I meant the cartoon.
I wonder, does that animation still plays out now in 2014? Or is Radio-Canada 24/7 now and never signs off?
What were the odds of me finding one of your comments on such a random video? O_o the internet is a small place!
CBC-TV broadcasts around the clock, while ICI Radio-Canada Télé still signs off at night.

what's with that dialling tones right after the anthem ended?
The ending sounds like a telephone before they sounded off the bleep.

Does this station still go off the air a decade later?
Pretty sure this is way older than 2009
Evil Yoda The likely just reused the same sign off footage for years and years. Why fix what isn’t broken? I suppose the attitude is.
The Animation is from 1990
@@canadianmike711 Yup.. I think at the time I was just annoyed that it wasn't mentioned in title.
@@Popeslash that stopped in 2013 and replace with a simultaneously broadcast of RDI
No, this was 2009 I remember seeing this as a kid in the Early 2000’s From 2009 to 2010 maybe 2011?
it was in fact :)
