The town's cultural heritage is preserved in its protected old town center, featuring Classicist architecture that emerged after a significant fire in 1811. In Tržič, a legendary Slovenian dragon plays a pivotal role in the town's folklore and history. According to local legend, a great dragon hatched from a rooster's egg and caused a massive rockslide that led to the creation of Slovenian town Tržič. This tale, which has been passed down through generations of Slovenians, describes how the dragon grew so large that it split the mountain of Košuta, burying the original settlement below. To commemorate this myth, a striking metal sculpture of the dragon was constructed by the culture and arts society Ampus.
