Follow the steps below to delete Facebook account on desktop:
1. Open a browser on your PC, Laptop, Chromebook, or Macbook and navigate to facebook.com.
2. Select the your Facebook profile image in the top right of Facebook.
3. In the new menu, select Settings & Privacy and then select Settings.
4. Once in the settings select See more in Accounts Center.
5. Select Personal details.
6. Select Account ownership and control then select Deactivation or deletion.
7. Choose the Facebook account you want to deletion.
8. Make sure Delete account is selected then select Continue.

The code is sent into your email address and not on your mobile phone,, personally I have followed all the instructions and I have managed to delete my account which was hacked,, thanks broh for this useful video

One reason to delete your account is that US/UK Visa applications requires you to give all your social media accounts for the last 5 years. If you have an account with fake info (to protect your privacy) like a fake name/date of birth as usual for forum accounts etc. than the customs officer will look at that and think it's suspicious. Could be a scammer/terrist etc. I'm none of those but my accounts are fluff accounts that I just thought were funny and for larping and don't want anyone to know about them. There is a 5 year cool down. So you'll have to wait 5 years after deleting account before you can say you "don't have an account". I'm deleting all my 3 accounts now since I don't need them and I don't like zuckerberg anyway.
