That statement on the Frankston line and having similar look stations made me think it'd be cool if the various stations around the city were themed in that kinda way by line with the multi-line stations trying to do it per-platform based on which trains go where. The idea being that it'd be a great visual way to easily tell which line you're on or which lines the platform you're waiting on that transcends language. And once again a great video Max, thank you for uploading!
Now that is a good suggestion, very ambitious, but cool. That would so awesome to see, even if it was something small. Glad you enjoyed the video, many more coming this year
@ 11:05 Hallam road. I grew up in the area. I am old enough at 55 to remember ALL that area you see was farm land and the station unmanned. In fact we would put caps on the train line and watch the train go over them. No traffic. Our school did rambling over the field sometimes.
In the early 1990s I used to ride my bike from Chelsea to Hallam then get the train back via Caulfield. Once I rode to the Lyndhurst goods platform where it felt very much like the countryside. It's a bit different now. In 1995 I got a bit of a surprise when I revisited Lyndhurst and saw a regular Comeng/Hitachi train passing through at the nearby crossing. At the time I wasn't aware they'd electrified the line.
@@zoomosis yes I remember the Lyndhurst station. Amongst some big old gum trees and there’s used to be some railway residences at one point. When they reopened the line and rebuilt the station it was a good km closer to Cranbourne.
@@andyrob3259 When I visited Lyndhurst station in the mid '90s I believe the single platform still existed but I don't think it was ever used by passenger trains even before the line was electrified. There were very few houses anywhere near it. Lynbrook station was built further south next to a housing estate but didn't open until 2012, 17 years after electrification. Edit: Wikipedia says Lyndhurst last served passengers in 1981.
A big project will be the Glenhuntly level crossing removal, where the Frankston line intersects with a tram line. LXRP's web site say the project is starting this year (2022) but won't be finished until 2024. It looks like they're trenching the station, which surprises me as I expected it to be more practical to build an elevated station. One huge positive on the Frankston line will be a continuous bike trail from Frankston to Edithvale alongside the railway line. Currently it stops just north of Carrum station, but is under construction.
I filmed a fair bit at Glenhuntly at the start of 2021, and those 2 crossings near each other need to go ASAP haha, its ridiculous how long the boom gates are down for. Even if the elevated rail was chosen (which would've looked awesome), the designs we can see now look incredible in my opinion being pretty unique. A bike trail sounds like it needs to be ridden by The Train Man haha, hopefully one day we see a rail trail the full length 😮, you never know! Thanks for watching :)
We're really loving your videos Max, and we are learning lots about Melbourne's train history and future. We would love you to do a video on the mysterious 4D experimental train that used to run on the Melbourne system back in the 1990's. I'm trying to convince my young one there was a double decker train in Melbourne but he really doesn't believe me ;) . Great work keep it up ! :)
Love your content so informative about the upgrades and the history of the Melbourne railway network. Thanks for all the effort you put in collecting and distributing the information. Maria
Thanks train man a concise but informative look at the level crossing removals . I would add one of my favourites it’s the removal of the crossing on Rosanna rd and the Skyrail and new station that replaced it. It’s a beauty! As I live in Williamstown I have seen the Ferguson st North Willi station unfold in 2021 and I attended the opening on Dec 16th. It’s a very different t station tho the “small town” look of the old station. I will be glad when they finish the landscaping etc later in the year. I love the level crossing projects and will x continue to visit these during 2022. Well done again at a very slick video and hope for more to come!
Thanks again mate, great to see you continuing to enjoy. Rosanna is a banger for sure, absolutely love it and North Willy is such a different station now you're right. Thanks again
I'm happy to say that I worked on the Mooroolbark station project and my company actually worked on Bayswater and Boronia as well before I joined, and Edithvale after I joined. Also of note is the first and most dangerous crossing removed (I think it is anyway) in Melbourne was Boronia where my mum got wiped out on this extremely dangerous 5 way intersection, with a rail crossing going through it. Excellent video.
Thanks for watching, and so awesome to hear that you worked at Mooroolbark 👍👍. The Boronia crossing was an absolute shocker. Many people were killed over the years so I'm sure it would've been fantastic to see it go.
@@the_train_man It definitely was great to see the back of that horrid Boronia mess. My parents got t-boned on that intersection so I'm definitely not losing sleep over its demise.
Great informative video, and great to hear the passion in your voice promoting rails future way ahead. As a retired driver, it is a fantastic way for me to see what has been achieved after my 40* years of driving trains. The system in the 60's looked vastly different to this.
No, not vastly different, it's virtually the same network. Not that the level crossing removal hasn't been welcome I'm certainly grateful but that has benefited road traffic not rail
Good overview of a great programme. Would love to see following videos: 1. How this programme is address disability access issues at, say, 6 or so representative stations. 2. Contractor’s eye level view of programme, with some examples of difficulties, innovative design/construction solutions, time pressures etc. many thanks for a great channel.
This was such a Great Video, defenetly the best yet IMO. These New Stations Look Amazing and since I live in Bendigo whenever I go to Melbourne that Sunbury Level Crossing is cars galore when the Train passes. Can't wait to see the cars going smoothly below as we clickity Clack past Sunbury and Nearby Suburbs. I also can't wait to see the others as they all look Amazing. Melbourne Metro Trains System will be best in Australia and up there for best in the World! Can't wait for more of your content in 2022 mate!
So happy to hear you think its my best yet, I'm pretty stoked with it! Hopefully we see more Bendigo Line upgrades over the next couple of years for you too, I expect there to be. Some of these stations are so so cool, it's going to be a fun 2022 :)
I could do a video on those for sure, two very interesting projects, especially at Croydon where the gradients are tricky for a crossing removal. Thanks for watching 😁💪
I'm excited to see the Union Rd crossing gone, and the new Union station. I lived nearby Surrey Hills station in 2016 when a train struck a car & killed the two people inside it, and I will never forget the sinking feeling I had in my stomach when I thought "huh, the boom gate bells have been going for an awfully long time" and realised what that meant. A friend of mine was at a cafe right next to the crossing when it happened and saw the entire event unfold, she still has nightmares about it. When the level crossing removal project started, and Union Rd was so far down the list of priority, I was absolutely appalled, so I'm glad to see it's been moved forward.
Max, great job, but you missed one, Camms Road at Cranbourne. The crossing will be eliminated in 2024, possibly earlier (2023). Duplication completed next month (February) 12 months ahead of schedule. Camms Road closed a few days ago for the new track to be laid and a water main strengthened. It will reopen on 6 or 7 February, fully duplicated. Whoops just realised it was removals in 2021 - 2022. I jumped the gun there because I live near where the new Cranbourne East station will be built when the line is extended to Clyde.
Great to see new content from you again, Max. Growing up in St Albans, you couldn't imagine my excitement when both the Ginifer and St Albans stations level crossings were removed. The countless hours I've been stuck behind those boom gates, and sadly, the lives lost.
You need to do an episode on what was the Whittlesea Line, Now the Mernda line, formerly the South Morang Line, formerly the Epping line. Whittlesea was a rail line used to bring milk into Melbourne and rock quarries were also a big industry in the area using the railway. There are still plenty of abandoned track beds, poles, station platforms, station Master house and at what was the end of the line in Whittlesea was a turn table for steam trains. Today's Middle Gorge Station sits on the site of the original South Morang station. I have plenty of information on this line if you would like help to cover it's history for a future episode.
Wow Max the voice over is sounding great. Huge improvement. I stepped away from offering you any more help because I couldn't do any more with out giving you voice coaching. And it was clear you weren't up for this. Which is fair enough. Regardless of being able to take any credit or not for the massive improvement, it's nice to catch up with your videos again. It's a shame you're not posting any more but I was expecting this with the move away from Melbourne. There is still a layer of polish to put on the voicing and you are welcome to look me up if you want that.
I live very close to Preston station and I can hear them working on the new bridge they're putting up here. It's a huge job, can't imagine how much it all costs or how to organise such operations that have so many items to tick off! The changes are good for the future of the network and for pedestrians!
Great video mate. I can't believe the Upfield removals were in 2020! Time flies. Great projects not only for train and car users but also the repurposing of space under skyrails for the public
Time really does fly, Moreland and Coburg are looking so beautiful. They're projects that are really awesome for everyone, if only they didn't cost so much haha. Thanks for watching :)
Welcome back to content creation Max, we've missed you. Edit: being a Werribee man I sure am glad both the Werribee & Hoppers crossings are gone. It always puzzled me why Hoppers was never included in the original list despite it being a busy station & right near a freeway, but definately am glad it's done now. Am a bit sad we get no real station upgrades (although Hoppers is getting a footbridge) but to be honest other than the ramp being my one pet peeve, Werribee is so historic upgrading it would probably ruin it. Also, like how you used the RRL project completion video there. You really have to give that project credit for in many ways starting the infrastructure boom we see today, and giving the West a lot of benefits that last to this day. It's sad how it's been universally panned by most because the operation of the line unfortunately didn't turn out as it had been hoped, as it really did have a lot of benefits. Looking forward to a video from you on that in the future.
Thanks again Aidan :) It will certainly be tricky upgrading Werribee, I'll be interested to see how that goes, and Hoppers Crossing is not technically getting 'rebuilt' you're right. The Regional Rail Link certainly showed the Government that rail projects can be executed well in the 21st century, and I'm happy that the western section of the system has been shown a bit of overdue attention over the past decade. RRL video coming this year I'm sure!
Great story for the start of 2022. It's been a major success for Melbourne, and I find it interesting that everyone that was complaining about the skyrail options, saying that the space underneath would end up as wasteland has gone suprisingly quiet. For the first time, I went and took a look at some of the areas underneath the lines, and they are vibrant areas, obviously well-used by locals and (as you've noted) a prime example of what can happen with good design. On another note, are you planning to do a further update of what's happening with the Metro project? You've done your updates so well that I'll look forward to the next. And finally - all the best for your first year at Uni. I'm sure you'll crush it. :-)
davidf melbourne, the skyrail whingers were losers anyway. few people looked at their videos. and some of their viewers were skyrail lovers like me!.. we're about to get skyrailing here in perth right past my house. i'm having trouble waiting for it. 10 minutes stuck at a crossing yesterday. train passengers will be able to look into my yard if they could be bothered. bring it on!
Sorry. Give it time. Why do you think those areas will be any different from others? Some sort of magic? I’ve already seen Skyrail with graffiti on it at track level. Never mind at ground level. All it takes is cut backs to maintenance. Seen how clean the glass at Dandenong station is after 10 years of use to see what happens when the initial contract for cleaning is reduced and globes don’t get replaced as often.
Thanks very much David, I reckon that with only a little bit of maintenance, these areas have the potential to be great for many decades to come, I hope they look the same when I'm 30. Metro Tunnel video will be coming hopefully by the end of the month, I'm in the process of moving but I'll find time. Thanks again, really pumped for uni
@@andyrob3259 , when you get rid of level crossings you get rid of level crossing accidents. a woman in a nissan 370z was killed near my place about a month ago. i suspect she was trying to take a short cut because the council complicated the intersection near where it happened. my dad drove trains for 40 years and a lot of people died in front of his trains.
Also Max, I’ve been to the Lilydale and Mooroolbark new stations and they both look absolutely beautiful, also, a common theme with these new stations I have picked up on are that all new stations have new signage, instead the of the old ones that were all blue, these new ones have white, with the colour of the line of the map underneath, they have done this at Richmond station too, and all of the lines each platform they depart from, have different colours of their lines,
Ohmygod! I was waiting for you to cover this! This is wonderful!! I was totally blown when I missed my stop and ended up at Roseanna station! It's huge and amazing and so futuristic that I was thoroughly amazed!!

Living on the Frankston line all my life it's been great to have all these new stations. I travel the line constantly from Cheltenham to Frankston and its great. I rode over to Merinda park station on Cranbourne line over Christmas on my bike and one side of it was open. It will soon have two lines one each side of the station. It really looks impressive too. Great video mate.😄👍
Thanks mate, awesome to hear you exploring these fantastic projects, I'm sure it was a good bike ride over to Merinda Park, nice work there! The Frankston Line has almost benefitted the most of any line from the crossing removals, it is truly awesome
Surprisingly, none of those crossings are on the list for removal. I'm sure that'll change very soon, but currently those crossings are staying. I'll keep you updated 👍 Thanks for watching :)
Laburnum is still waiting for carpark to be sealed and disabled parking bases. As it was the first we got a mecano set with token access for the aged. Still waiting for the raised plarform for easy access.
Outstanding video, informative and well put together and articulated. A question, wondering when that terrible crossing at High Street, Glen Iris is being removed?
Thank you very much :) I'm wondering the same thing, it has to go soon, and I wouldn't be surprised if its announced for removal towards the end of this year. I'll be wishing for it 🤞
hello max thanks for the info. i live at chelsea the station is operational still need ramps and a bike path that will start about 20th jan all level crossings are removed its quieter the trains go through a tunnel end up at bonbeach one end and aspendale the other end. great access to the stations lifts at last thank God Everyone is happy take care buddy cheers
Thanks for watching Albert, glad you enjoyed. There certainly is a fair bit of work to be completed around those new stations this year, I should have mentioned that in the video :)
Hi Max, thank you for this most informative video on the crossing removals. Oh by the way I went to Hawthorn Station and I noticed under the pedestrian exit ramp from platform 2 and 3 sections that looked like vaults (similar to near Flinders street station - Banana Alley) Do you know what they were used for? Cheers Steve
Thanks for watching Steve, really appreciate the support. I have no information in regards to the vault like structures at Hawthorn, I'll have a look in my spare time :)
Another great vid, Max - your enthusiasm is even rubbing off on me! Are there any proposals for the Alamein line? The Riversdale Road level crossing is one of Melbourne's only two train/tram squares, I believe, and would seem an obvious one to replace.
My enthusiasm is what keeps me going, I loved researching and making this video. I'd say/hope that the Riversdale crossing removal will be announced this year. Its a must go eventually, even if it would mean the likely merge of both Willison and Riversdale (my prediction). Thanks for watching another video, I do appreciate the long time support :)
@@haioujin7964 Unsure. I've read reference to there having been at least 10, but unsure whether it's now down to two, three, or four. I suspect Max will know, if he's able to respond!
Hello Max, happy New Year. Great to have you back producing your top quality informative videos. Excellent narration on this one too. Good luck with your future studies, which I am sure you will excel at!
i hope they get rid of 100 level crossings instead of 85 in my opinion more level crossings need to be removed on the sandringham upfield and hurstbrige lines
I agree, this project will continue for possibly a decade to come, removing many more crossings that need to go. It'll be very interesting to observe the progress, hope you enjoyed the video 👍👍
Terrific synopsis of the Level Crossing Removal! Fun fact: the Level Crossing Removal Authority didn't originally plan to remove the Old Geelong Rd crossing. No, I don't know what they were smoking.
Great infrastructure BUT not before time. I emigrated to Melbourne from Sydney in 1987 and there was just a single, unused, level crossing at Clyde on Parramatta Rd. That was it within 50km of the Sydney CBD. I could not believe the traffic chaos at these weird level crossings. Will be good to see all those lives saved. Bit like the "unnecessary" pedestrian jump barriers on the Westgate.
An informative and interesting account of progress on the level crossing removal projects. I wonder, if train patronage will increase again during 2022 to the levels pre COVID?
I reckon no. If it’s anything like my office; while they will want us returned; now they have in place flexible working and everyone can log in from home with stable off site systems they are bringing in a requirement that they only want you in 3 days per week minimum and you can choose to work the other two at home. You can of course chose to go in all 5 if you wish. And it doesn’t matter which days M-F. Most are choosing to work from home Monday and Friday and going in Tuesday - Thursday so I think overall both rail and road traffic is going to stay at lower levels.
I think Andy said it well. Even if there is now fantastic freedom again, it'll take at least another year to return to pre Covid numbers. It's been such a terrible time for millions, and I think that will affect the way people travel (I could be totally wrong). Thanks for watching :)
the only problem with the South Gippsland Highway overpass is that trucks turning right from the South Gippsland Highway on to the Princes Highway have to slow to 15kph. Surely they could have had a better camber on the road than that so its not as well designed as you think. The rest is terrific.
Interesting you say this, obviously I had no idea so thank you for that info. I hope they rejig it for the long term success of the project that would've cost millions, it'd be a shame for the otherwise great bridge. Hope you enjoyed the video :)
I'm not too sure what the figures are as I got my statistics from LXRA The main reason I think it hasn't been removed is politics, strong Liberal Area, the Labor government wouldn't be in a rush to remove it I'm hoping it is removed tho, it has to be 🤞🤞
@@the_train_man I'm disappointed that this would really come down to politics, but sadly it wouldn't surprise me. The evidence doesn't really stack up though; Higgins is Josh's electorate and has been strongly Liberal for a while. But both Toorak Road and Bourke Road got done. So on balance I'd have to say 'not political'. I might accept 'too hard' because of the tram though.
Very true regarding the other crossings removed, thats why the whole situation stumps me. Kooyong will be hard, but there is space there, it certainly isn't near impossible
@@the_train_man Not to mention that the distance between the Glenferrie Rd and Toorak Rd crossings is similar to Moreland Rd & Bell St so elevating the whole section might have been easier than making it into a rioller coaster ride. The carpark could have expanded at Kooyong too!
Hi Max. You ever think Stations will ever reach an echelon where their presentation, designs and functionalities are at its peaks and should never be reconsidered for redesign? Do you even think that there will be a point where there will be no more stations built in the Metro region? Personally for that second question, it’ll probably be Whittlesea and Yan Yean that will be the last to get consideration for new stations built in the Metro area. Its 40km North and 7000 people roughly live in Whittlesea (practically a retirement village with how old people are there) and Yan Yean probably would even hit 300. It hasn’t got enough people for it and better yet, they aren’t in plans for urbanisation in the following decade or so and that could continue near the half century I reckon.
I believe that many stations have already reached their peak upgradability, especially some of the newer ones in already established areas eg. Bayswater. However, I do believe the system has the potential to continue growing, especially in areas of urban sprawl. Similar to you Whittlesea point, Wollert will certainly need a train line in 10-15 years, you can clearly see where it could go on maps and how the area is expanding rapidly. The same thing can be said in Melton and Wyndham Vale which are both currently served by V-Line. These two lines will eventually be electrified and more stations will be built I'm sure. I could go on for a while, but the summary of that is there is a lot of expansion that could happen, whether it will is another story. Thanks again :)
@@the_train_man Good one. I'm really bored with the other melbs train guy that pretends to be five different people. No story line, narrative or humour. Besides so many updated places and new stations. Plenty of meaty material. Mr gunzel man.
One interesting thing that I noticed about the level crossings, is that the boom gates are most if not all half barrier only (blocking half of the road). Let me know if there are any full barrier level crossings.
I wonder if you have done something on the work done at noble Park as there was a lot of construction going on there over the last few years across that whole line and I know noble Park station did get an upgrade
Sandringham line is one of the few lines there are no level crossing removal. Although the level crossing at Glenhuntly Rd, Elsternwick was removed in 1960.

Great video. But the Clyde road Berwick one. As I have family local I know it well. I have NEVER seen a more drawn out and convoluted rebuild in my life. It’s like they are using it as a job creation project to keep people working.
Thanks for watching. Interesting what you say about the job creations, the project is creating many jobs, but you could see that it could be blown out of proportion.
@@the_train_man I’ve seen other rebuilds of crossings and they don’t seem as drawn out as this one. I’m not sure why as I don’t think it’s any more difficult than inner suburban ones.
I reckon that crossing would've continued to become a nightmare for road and rail users, and the new stations looks fantastic. I'm sure it would've been sad for you to see all the memories you made at the station removed. Thanks for watching :)
Interesting video and commentary, a huge project, some new roundabouts as well, makes me feel at home, I had no idea Melbourne had so many level crossings, I assume it’s because the railways developed and expanded long before the motor car arrived, people travelled by horse coach so crossing a railway line in then 19 century non urban Melbourne wasn’t an issue.
I’m pleased the Glenroy Road level crossing is being removed as that crossing is where I failed my first driving test nearly 20 years ago. Love the video, terrifically informative. The Vic Govt could do worse than to get you to promote their crossing removals.
What a great reason to get rid of the crossing, very unlucky for your drivers test haha. Glad you enjoyed the video so much, I do appreciate the support. It'd be cool to work with some of these government transport organisations one day :)
Ah, interesting you've said that Ben (been on the channel a few times) and I have almost finished a list of our station rankings! I don't know if I'm going to release it haha, it'll be controversial, but it's great fun.
Can't wait till Pakenham station gets their overhaul! Especially since the busses will be right next to the station instead of running through the park, and hopefully with the newly created Pakenham East station that congestion will be cleared up.
What about Macaulay Rd Kensington. 2 railway crossings within 500m of each other including one that has a busy metro and V-line lines. And that doesn’t include Showgrounds and Flemington Racecourse trains. Currently boom gates are down almost 50% of the time in peak periods. If ever a rail crossing project was needed this has to be included.
Couldn't agree more Steve. Even though the station at Kensington will be hard to sacrifice (it's beautiful), both crossings on that stretch of road will eventually go I'm sure of it. Look out for that announcement in the next year or two 🤞🤞

@ 11:05 Hallam road. I grew up in the area. I am old enough at 55 to remember ALL that area you see was farm land and the station unmanned. In fact we would put caps on the train line and watch the train go over them. No traffic. Our school did rambling over the field sometimes.
That sounds like great fun mate, I'm jealous of those experiences!
I love that there’s a channel dedicated to Melbourne trains for us train nerds
Man.. He just dipped, I loved this guys content.
he moved to queensland and is busy
Love your work. Have you done a video yet describing the Pakenham skyrail and line extension to a Pakenham East station?
Oh we just found your History Of Trains video ;) haha!
Thank you Ben, so happy to hear you're enjoying the channel. One day I'll update the shambles of a video that 'History of Trains' is haha.
Thanks again
tremendous video and many thanks for posting.
as a melburnian born and bred in the late 1940's,
but having now lived in cairns since 1987, great work.
Hi lance sorry to hear if the passing of your brother
No, not vastly different, it's virtually the same network. Not that the level crossing removal hasn't been welcome I'm certainly grateful but that has benefited road traffic not rail
Good overview of a great programme. Would love to see following videos:
1. How this programme is address disability access issues at, say, 6 or so representative stations.
2. Contractor’s eye level view of programme, with some examples of difficulties, innovative design/construction solutions, time pressures etc.
many thanks for a great channel.
Some great topics Peter thanks for the suggestions!
Excellent video. Would love to see a preview of the proposed Croydon and Ringwood East upgrades once the information becomes available.
I could do a video on those for sure, two very interesting projects, especially at Croydon where the gradients are tricky for a crossing removal. Thanks for watching 😁💪
Be sure to check out the Level Crossing Removal Projects website for more information :)

Ha you've used a bit of footage I helped capture for quite a few of these level crossings! Glad you enjoy our works!
What a tragedy that was, it just makes the removal all the more justified. Thanks for sharing your experience and opinions :)
Really well done. I haven't lived in Melbourne for a few decades now but I still remember sitting in traffic at some of those level crossings.
Thanks, much appreciated!
Overall, this project is really beneficial to everyone involved and I'm glad you think I did it justice :)
I also grew up in St.Albans in the 80s, the crossing was busy even back then
You need to do an episode on what was the Whittlesea Line, Now the Mernda line, formerly the South Morang Line, formerly the Epping line.
I can't wait to see the completed project at Bell and Preston, so exciting and it looks amazing so far!
Thank you amazing video, didn't know about North Williamstown or Glenroy. Frankston line stations needed updating
great video and overview of the all the work done in the past two years
Welcome back to content creation Max, we've missed you.
Thanks again Aidan :)
It will certainly be tricky upgrading Werribee, I'll be interested to see how that goes, and Hoppers Crossing is not technically getting 'rebuilt' you're right.
@@andyrob3259 , when you get rid of level crossings you get rid of level crossing accidents. a woman in a nissan 370z was killed near my place about a month ago. i suspect she was trying to take a short cut because the council complicated the intersection near where it happened. my dad drove trains for 40 years and a lot of people died in front of his trains.
very well said, thanks for the comment
Also Max, I’ve been to the Lilydale and Mooroolbark new stations and they both look absolutely beautiful, also, a common theme with these new stations I have picked up on are that all new stations have new signage, instead the of the old ones that were all blue, these new ones have white, with the colour of the line of the map underneath, they have done this at Richmond station too, and all of the lines each platform they depart from, have different colours of their lines,
The new stations in the east are great aren't they! The blue signs are truly iconic across the system, but I don't mind the white ones, very sleek
@@the_train_man yeah, they are really cool how they have the same colour of the line as it is represented on the actual map
Ohmygod! I was waiting for you to cover this! This is wonderful!!
I was totally blown when I missed my stop and ended up at Roseanna station! It's huge and amazing and so futuristic that I was thoroughly amazed!!
Glad you enjoyed :)
Rosanna is an absolute rippa and fantastic station, couldn't agree more!
Hi max this is from Disney cars trains and Thomas the tank fun I just wanted to let you know that I loved your video on melbournes level crossing removals from 2022 it was very interesting and I just wanted to ask you if once you have looked at all the suburban lines in melbourne I was wondering could you do videos on regional train lines in melbourne and fun fact did you know that deer park station got rebuilt and had it’s level crossing removed and I love your videos and your channel and this is Disney cars trains and Thomas the tank fun signing of !
Probably your best yet. What an enormous difference to Melbourne. Thanks.
Happy to hear you think that, thanks Richard, these projects are awesome :)
Come back Max... we miss you !!
he moved to queensland and is busy
Very informative as usual thanks, is there any works for moonee ponds crossing and Kensington and McCauley?
Surprisingly, none of those crossings are on the list for removal. I'm sure that'll change very soon, but currently those crossings are staying. I'll keep you updated 👍
Thanks for watching :)
Thank you very much :)
I'm wondering the same thing, it has to go soon, and I wouldn't be surprised if its announced for removal towards the end of this year.
Hey mate. Great video. Not sure if you've covered it. But have you heard of the rosstown railway that used to run through the east of Melbourne?
Hi Max, thank you for this most informative video on the crossing removals. Oh by the way I went to Hawthorn Station and I noticed under the pedestrian exit ramp from platform 2 and 3 sections that looked like vaults (similar to near Flinders street station - Banana Alley) Do you know what they were used for? Cheers Steve
Thanks for watching Steve, really appreciate the support.
I have no information in regards to the vault like structures at Hawthorn, I'll have a look in my spare time :)
Thanks Max, if you go to google maps and look from Evansdale Road that runs beside the Station you can see it. Cheers Steve
Still 83 level crossings hey. I think we are down to about 8 here in Sydney.
When is the all the stations in 1 day challenge vid gonna come out?
Another great vid, Max - your enthusiasm is even rubbing off on me! Are there any proposals for the Alamein line? The Riversdale Road level crossing is one of Melbourne's only two train/tram squares, I believe, and would seem an obvious one to replace.
My enthusiasm is what keeps me going, I loved researching and making this video. I'd say/hope that the Riversdale crossing removal will be announced this year. Its a must go eventually, even if it would mean the likely merge of both Willison and Riversdale (my prediction). Thanks for watching another video, I do appreciate the long time support :)
Isn't there three tram squares? (Riversdale, Glenferrie, Glenhuntly?)
@@haioujin7964 Unsure. I've read reference to there having been at least 10, but unsure whether it's now down to two, three, or four. I suspect Max will know, if he's able to respond!

I made some great memories with you and the crew at Bennettswood, so thank you for that :)
That’s brilliant to know all of these new and upgraded level crossing removals
Hope you learnt something about this awesome project :)
I live Hampton Park and I go to Hallam station to the City. I can’t wait to walk up the stairs, Escalator, and elevator at new Hallam station :)
i hope they get rid of 100 level crossings instead of 85 in my opinion more level crossings need to be removed on the sandringham upfield and hurstbrige lines
I agree, this project will continue for possibly a decade to come, removing many more crossings that need to go.
It'll be very interesting to observe the progress, hope you enjoyed the video 👍👍
Not sure where the money will come from. The cupboard is almost bare.
Probably Hampton station , Hampton street level crossing maybe the only level crossing on the Sandringham line that maybe need to be removed.
I'm a train and I approve this video choo choo!!
The Sandringham line definitely needs some level crossing removal attention for sure!
This is Amazing! Thank you for the post!
Terrific synopsis of the Level Crossing Removal!
Fun fact: the Level Crossing Removal Authority didn't originally plan to remove the Old Geelong Rd crossing. No, I don't know what they were smoking.
Yo Max, you going to upload here again, it's great content.
Excellent video. Hope to see more updates and maybe a before and after for all the changes
Hi Mate,
Why did you stop making new posts, I always enjoy watching your uploads.
the only problem with the South Gippsland Highway overpass is that trucks turning right from the South Gippsland Highway on to the Princes Highway have to slow to 15kph. Surely they could have had a better camber on the road than that so its not as well designed as you think. The rest is terrific.
Yes they have made it more a direct ‘T’ than what it was before; a gradual turn into the Highway that allowed higher speeds.
Interesting you say this, obviously I had no idea so thank you for that info. I hope they rejig it for the long term success of the project that would've cost millions, it'd be a shame for the otherwise great bridge.
Hope you enjoyed the video :)
Great Video Mate, I know more about the level crossings now, please come back to uploading it would be so cool to see you upload again.
What are the figures (vehicles per day & closure time) for Kooyong? I'm still perplexed that this wasn't done along with Toorak Road.
I'm not too sure what the figures are as I got my statistics from LXRA
The main reason I think it hasn't been removed is politics, strong Liberal Area, the Labor government wouldn't be in a rush to remove it
I'm hoping it is removed tho, it has to be 🤞🤞
but they get a shiny new carpark lol
Very fast progress unbelievable. Both the level crossing removals and this channel.
Thank you haha, the progress this year has been immense across Melbourne!
It's been a long time Max. Are we ever going to get a new episode? Or is that the end of "the train man". How's Uni going?

One interesting thing that I noticed about the level crossings, is that the boom gates are most if not all half barrier only (blocking half of the road). Let me know if there are any full barrier level crossings.
I wonder if you have done something on the work done at noble Park as there was a lot of construction going on there over the last few years across that whole line and I know noble Park station did get an upgrade
I didn't get the chance to do this for Noble Park unfortunately, but the Skyrail looks great!

I worked at Reservoir station in the 80's never thought I would see that crossing removed.
I reckon that crossing would've continued to become a nightmare for road and rail users, and the new stations looks fantastic. I'm sure it would've been sad for you to see all the memories you made at the station removed. Thanks for watching :)
Hi Max, I hope you are well. Cheers Steve

Can't wait till Pakenham station gets their overhaul! Especially since the busses will be right next to the station instead of running through the park, and hopefully with the newly created Pakenham East station that congestion will be cleared up.
I can't wait either, both stations and the surrounding precinct look spectacular for all the locals, it'll be great!
Awesome once again!
The Cranbourne I think has 50 more services per week from 13 Feb
I think that sounds about right, very exciting 👍👍
Is Victorian Transport Videos run by Dan Andrews media unit?
@@rupert5390 lol
Learnt everything from you now it’s time for a craigieburn line one
I agree mate, it is coming I promise just a lot on my plate :)
Yeww thank you Dan Andrews 😁👌🏻❤️
What about Macaulay Rd Kensington. 2 railway crossings within 500m of each other including one that has a busy metro and V-line lines. And that doesn’t include Showgrounds and Flemington Racecourse trains.
Currently boom gates are down almost 50% of the time in peak periods. If ever a rail crossing project was needed this has to be included.
Couldn't agree more Steve. Even though the station at Kensington will be hard to sacrifice (it's beautiful), both crossings on that stretch of road will eventually go I'm sure of it.
Look out for that announcement in the next year or two 🤞🤞
8:20 they aren’t building a new station, they are only building the overpass.
Close enough haha, thanks anyway
Super work, man! Hit us up when you are keen to explore about all the bridges in these projects. We sure know a thing or two!
Will do mate, thanks :)
