There is disagreement between historians as to the site of the Battle. While some claim it was in Ashdon (as said in this video), others claim it was in Ashingdon (near Rochford, Essex). The legend goes that Cnut made his camp on a nearby hill, on which now stands Canewdon church.

You've gotta respect Edmund Ironsides as a leader and a man, getting wounded fighting alongside his troops. Imagine if George W Bush personally led the invasion of Iraq and got wounded when his humvee hit an IED.

I think Edmund was significantly younger than Bush (or any other president) was.
(Why are we always voting for old people? They don't have to care for the future like a 30-50 year old would be forced to.)
But the idea is kind of funny. The news would be all over it like a pack of wolves.

This time period would make a most excellent hbo show.
It has everything. Badass Viking warlords with awesome names, inept English king who flees in exile to Normandy, conniving second wife queen who alienates and splits the royal family apart, kickass warrior princes of Aethelred - including one Chosen One who dies at the worst possible time and another who takes his mantle in Ironside. Backstabbing and doublecrossing vassal. Other vassals infighting and destroying the royal fleet, and the hope of England with it. And general treachery, bloodshed, warfare, mayhem, tragedy, and loss everywhere.
I mean, Aethelred’s reign begins with treachery with his mom killing his brother. It ends with treachery. And you could even extend the series through Cnut’s reign, when Aethelred’s younger sons - Edward the confessor and his brother - come back to England years later. The Confessor’s brother comes back from Normandy on invitation from another “loyal vassal” only to be stabbed in the back by the guy, loyal to Cnut the whole time. And then it’s down to the Confessor to save the Wessex house.
Just an excellent time period. I’d devour a good show or movie based on it.

    Here's how I imagine it:
Eadric did not care who ruled, and thought he'd rather preserve his subjects.
    Cnut catches up to him
They negotiate, Cnut let him know he'll die
Eadric says he did nothing wrong
Cnut says "no, you manipulated everything within the rules"
"But you'd be an idiot if you thought I'd let you live"
    Eadric is executed
Cnut rules like Ragnar desired to in the Vikings
    The End
