  • Continuing my investigation on this broken ADS drawer sliding cassette deck.Managed to play a cassette. Just slipped back on the belt that fell off and sanded the belt that runs the reels.
Also corrected the speed on the deck, that may be helpful to some.
Subscribe to this channel though. I'm planning to post a proper maintenance video for general cassette decks using this ADS Atelier C2. Bought a complete sets of belts recently, the seller was running out of them. I also bought a calibration tape. So Subscribe for the latest and join the Analog Resurgence.

Shot in the dark: my C2 works perfectly except for it will randomly stop playing / recording / ff or rew as if the stop button had been pressed. Then it won't respond to any button presses for a random amount of time, could be one second or thirty seconds. Sometimes it'll play an entire cassette, sometimes only a few seconds at a time. Thoughts on this? It's otherwise sonically perfect, but nearly unusable.

This video is old, my C2 doesn't work any more. My replacement, the C4, also doesn't work. The C2 is a much simpler machine. I'll make a video on a full restoration someday. I don't have any proper cassette players in the meantime.

@@AnalogMedia. That's the state of half my high end finds. Luckily I know a tech who fixes most of them but he avoids cassette decks, boo! Everything cool from the 80s and 90s is at the end of its life span it seems.

hi there. thanks for making this video. it gives me hope i may be able to repair a ADS C4 deck made in 1988 which has a similar old belt problem - PLAY does not move the tape. Though FFW and RWND work (possibly RWND seems slower versus FFW). I removed the bottom cover to see the PLAY belt very loose on the back spindle which explains the issue. But i could not figure out how to get the interior plate off which covers where the front spindle would be and needed to remove/replace the belt. Possibly there is a screw or two on the sides that connect to this plate which i could not figure out how to access. Any chance your C2 was similar and you might have suggestions? Thanks!

I owned a c4 now. The C1-C4 are built the same. Remove the front plate to make room, then every part of the mechanism can be taken out from the top down. Like unscrew the plastic from the cassette area and you'll see that the entire mech is just held onto the carriage with some screws.

@@AnalogMedia. Hi, you said the belt is so easy to remove but I opened up the Deck from the bottom and came as far as one can see in your video and there you have acess to one weel but not to the other. As my belt is torn i have to replace it but no idea how?! Another question I have the C4 which is quite good and as if its in good condition exept of the belt i would like to repair that, do you know any place where I can get a replacement belt maybe not originally from Braun as I haven't found one yet. Ty in advance for any helpful comment.

Where did you find the belt?

eBay, some guy in Germany sells them. Shipping cost is expensive, but Germany is the only place you're going to find these belts.
