Thank you for this new thread Mr. Kotsa. Those heroical times when our grandfathers tried to break all the records stablished, and tried as well with a lot of technical limitations, however they bravery suceed. This inspired tool-watch brings this thought to mine. Those amazing vintage designs from the 60's and 70's, and finally we can improve them with nowadays technical advances during its making process, with new material as well... etc. This amazing piece brings all this to my mind.
That Spinnaker is a conversation starter ... I feel that's an understatement!! 😆👍🏼 Really love the AVI-8 watches. This one's a classic. Thanks for sharing.
30 seconds in and I’m already in love with that Spinnaker. With the preview photos I though it was going to be a bit too much but now that I see in in your hands, wrist and outside, it is more usable than I thought. Definitely a special occasion every time you wear it! Thanks Peter
Hey Pete. That’s a serious flex by Spinnaker. A very, very cool piece. $550? That’s half the $ I was expecting too… Jeez, that half a bowling ball worth of sapphire crystal must’ve cost as much as the sum of the rest of the piece. Absolutely love it, can pull off the size too. I don’t often enter giveaways, but I’ll be entering that one when it comes around!! As far as the the Avi8 goes... I'm with you on the blue AR Pete. So many reviewers talk about the 'pleasing effect' of blue AR coating... To my eyes, sapphire crystal is quite harsh, quite cold as it is - and Blue AR coating only adds to that. Not a fan. Thanks Pete. Great piece today.
I love my Phoibos Leviathan, and by comparison the Piccard is at once more elegant _and_ more of a beast. More "out there" in its design, but more refined as well. I definitely want one.
Oh Pete, you've done it again....both are brilliant pieces, but I just love the Piccard. I'm enamored with its historical influence, robust design, machining...just a great unique piece for me as I'm all about divers. BTW, at 220+ grams this thing will take you deep, deep, deep 🙂 Also, thank you for the link, I absolutely enjoy this type of videos. Please feel free ro do more as you encounter the opportunity. Thank you my friend for your wonderful work. All the best mate.
Wow! Love that crazy Piccard. Really appreciate the back story. Like you, I can't explain the attraction, lol, but I want one. Currently just a waiting list at their site, but I signed up. I have a few nutty watches, and the odd ones are so enjoyable. My Zelos Abyss, 3000m, full meteorite dial and bezel, a big boy. Also have some vintage camera design themed watches from TACS, very fun. And a Caterham 7 designed watch from Tsikolia. Decent specs on the Piccard there, 550m WR, ceramic bezel, sapphire crystal of course. They did a Piccard in 2020, or last year maybe, with a Swiss movement, for around a thousand bucks, but I actually prefer this design. Hopefully I can get one. Speaking of homages, I just bought the Feice Royal Oak tribute. Finishing is perhaps a tad uncouth on the bracelet, but I like the 72h PR on the hi-beat, skeletonized Hangzhou 7500. Surprisingly decent watch for $170 USD, and more affordable than the AP, at $330,000, lol. Actually looks and feels great, for such a friendly price. Great presentation Pete! Congrats on your continued growth! 👍👍👍
Oh wow the spinnaker really up their game. Love how the picard looked like a bracelet the characters are wearing from daft punk’s one more time. One thing its looking like a solid submarine from the past, but somehow it looks like science fiction as well
11:48 It keeps surprising me to hear people complain about seeing the ar coating like it's a negative. Newsflash: If the ar coating wasn't there you'd see blinding white reflections from the light hitting the crystal instead.
@@PeterKotsa You are correct but I can absolutely picture most other reviewers then going "What ar? I don't see it!" simply because it is clear and especially since Spinnaker watches are usually well known for all this blue ar being visible due to their use of mostly curved crystals. It comes down to preference in the end, anyway. That being said, I assume I misunderstood you disliking the blue for its color as opposed to its apparent obstruction of the dial. But I get it now :)
That $550 price and the15% off with you is insane. I like it but probably not enough to buy one. I'd lean more towards the Av-8. That blue AR coating to me just tends to muddy up that dial in one of the angles that you placed it. If I remember correctly, Aragon had a similar high domed crystal on one of their watches a few years back. Thanks for another good video Pete!
I can vouch for Spinnaker build quality as I have several and they're all very solid. The Picard isn't for me however but I can still understand your enthusiasm for it. AVI-8 are also excellent value watches - hardly surprising as they are the sister company. Don't understand why the minute markers on the Picard bezel aren't lumed..Usual excellent review Peter.
Peter..Hi mate. I Absolutely love the Spinnaker Picard, It's More than a Watch, It's a piece of History ! What a Talking point ! Thease guys should Never be forgotten, it's a Proper Deep Diver, Helium escape valve, Solid, made for a "Man" and that sapphire Dome is to die for, I love it !..Can you imagine how it looks Underwater !! Please may I have it ? Regards, Joe in Manchester U.K.
Spinnaker has really hit their stride with their latest offerings, pushing the limits to offer something interesting for a good value. I think you have also hit your stride recently in 'the study of TIME' part of your intro/tag line. The history and back stories on the design inspiration adds that fun trivia that your watch nerd viewers really enjoy 🧐
I love Big in ur face heave watches that spinnaker is definitely something I'd go for.i also like what they seem to no doing as a brand not going for the sameold easy option and just thinking outside the big. The AV-8 I csn imagine bring a good quality watch but I think is only really use it if I'm smartining myself up for a meal or something
I just watched a documentary on that recording breaking trip to the bottom of the ocean last night. I just sold a watch a few minutes ago. I have an 8 inch wrist, so I think this will be my next watch.
Great job with the photography of that Spinnaker I fell in love with the watch because I'm drawn to quirky watches I'm pretty sure once I figure out a color option and I could really appreciate the tribute to the old DEEP DIVE watches and this was no exception Thanks for another killer review my friend 👍
It's amazing how the water resistance technology has gone a long way. Creating a deep-sea diver is now no longer exclusive to very few watch companies.
That Priccard is certainly a stunner. I was excited about the release when I received the Spinnaker newsletter. Fantastic as always Peter. I’d love to see this beast in person. It sure is quirky and unique. I have this saying with my friends, “nothing that good looking is this practical”.
I was looking at AV-8 the other day on their website. I am no watch snob (having saved and purchased a couple of what you would call entry level luxury ie under 4k Stirling watches over the last 3/4 years). While I am intrigued by all of these micro brands, I just don’t get it. Wait and save a bit more and get a nice Swiss, German or Japanese watch.
Hahaha if you hold it in the right angle the sun is going to burn a hole into the dial...joke aside, it is an interesting and good looking piece and the crystal distortion is in fact spectacular. But doesn't it wear quite top heavy? Cheers Pete! 🍻
Now Im tempted to remove the crystal and see if I can use it to start a fire when I go camping next..lol As for top heavy, surprisingly NO, the bracelet really balances it out 👍
I didn't hear you mention a price, but I'll bet it isn't cheap. Why would Spinnaker put a low end movement in a high end watch? I wouldn't catagorize this watch as a beginner time piece, but they put a beginner time piece movement. Interesting looking watch, but not very practical for everyday wear. I guess it's only for the deep sea divers out there. Good video.
Depends on your stylistic choice..👍 This spinnaker is less practical as compared to the Hamilton because of that domed sapphire, so bear that in mind..
Quirky, don't think I'd get one, be fun to wear for a few weeks. If I did decide to get one, I'd go pre owned. Can't ding the watch for the weight, you know what you're getting into. I do think Spinnaker do build their watches well and have a few. I do think they should think of using a Miyota 9000 series even if it's few dollars more. I do know they made a similar watch in the past from what I remember it had a Swiss movement, but expensive, more than what a customer of this brand is willing to spend on a quirky watch.
I’ve had terrible performance on Kohbo. The frames tank hard when there’s a ton of enemies. In less demanding areas, it’s much better. Even on the moon it’s pretty terrible😅
I really like and own spinnaker watches. However, I would own a lot more if they would PLEASE offer no date watches. I'm done having dates ruin the symmetry of watch dials. And dates are completely unnecessary.
