From their religious sites, flag, population composition, and birthdays, here are ten things that you probably didn't know about Cambodia. Music by Yuzzy: bit.ly/2nUbGqD
Sorry, we don't eat maggots or cockroaches. I just want to make it clear. The beetle larvae, or some worms that live in tree bark are nutritious, and people eat those. We also eat other herbivorous insects such as crickets and grasshoppers. NO maggots. NO cockroaches.
Im American living in Cambodia. Most of these are true. Except tuktuks are mostly for tourists. In towns other than Phnom Penh or Siem Reap, they're not that common at all. And most cambodians actually don't eat bugs except for more elderly people who have an acquired taste for it from the Khmer rouge days. But a lot of Cambodians think it's gross actually. But if you venture into the more rural areas in the north they do eat bugs and even dog a lot. Interestingly, the cambodians from the towns or cities have their own prejudice against these kinds of people. Also the most obvious one is yes, there's no McDonald's. I never even knew I liked McDonald's so much before I left America. Now I can't wait to go Thailand just to have it again lol. There's just diary queen, KFC, burger king, Carl's Jr, dominos, pizza hut, and papa John's here. Cambodians love pizza actually for some odd reason. Seems like you can get pizza just about everywhere here. So we have all the big American pizza chains.
@@mikewhocheeseharry5292 yes the thought exists. But it’s not anything related to racism. Since people with lighter skin often indicates that the person doesn’t have to work under sunlight (old common thought since people often move back and forth between city n their hometown, so they wanna shows their rural neighbors that they got to work at pp) but it’s changing because I see some youths are starting to love themselves. Cambodia is not the only flag to have a building on it. The Spanish flag has a castle on the coast of arms, which is a symbol for the kingdom of Castile
As a Cambodian I don’t eat bugs I eat seafood Sad fact: Cambodia has had a hard time recovering from the horrors of the Pol Pot's Khmer Rouge regime in the late 1970s that killed an estimated 2 million people. Its sad 😢😢😢😢
Why do you mention only snakes, maggots, cockroaches, and crickets as the foods that Cambodians "enjoy"?? First, they don't eat cockroaches. Second, only the very poor sometimes eat snakes or crickets. Most Cambodians usually eat fish, beef, pork, chicken, duck.
@@olajong2315 during Khmer Rouge(1975-1979) there’s no currency in the country since people are forced to overworked and only receive their very little meal from days to days. That’s one of what they said to get rid of different social status. So they started the era by lying to people to left their house than they need to dye every pieces of their clothes black. All people have with them is a few set of clothes and a plate with a spoon to get their food. No money needed
So does San Marino, and I'm sure there's another. And he probably means Sovereign states but still San Marino is actually Sovereign state unlike Gibraltar. The river thing is incorrect too, there is another river in China like that.
The Saint Johns River here in N. Florida often flows both ways because of king tides. You can catch Salt water fish 150 miles away from the mouth of the river. It’s also one of, if not the slowest moving river in the US.
You must be one of the Khmer people from the forests if you eats cockroach and maggots. Most Cambodians don’t eat that 💩. Khmer people typically eat soups and bugs are considered gross in Khmer culture.
Just a question I know The pyramid of Giza is a tomb but is it also a religious monument for the original religion of Egypt with the Egyptian gods and stuff and is it bigger than ankor wat
