Thanks for the information! Do you have any suggestions for a over 30 private insurance? I’m wondering why private insurance is a cheaper than the public, is the private option bad? Thank you!
Hi Alan, sorry for the late reply. Private insurance is sometimes cheaper because you pay a fixed monthly fee instead of a variable one that depends on your income (which is the case for public health insurance). I've summarized the Pros and Cons in this blog post: hallogermany.com/blog/health-insurance-public-vs-private.
Hi Ranjan, unfortunately, the student health insurance at a reduced rate only applies up to the age of 30. There are some exceptions, but these are very rare. This means that you would most likely have to pay the full applicable minimum health insurance rate. The minimum costs would be around 150 € monthly. In case you are married, a family insurance through your spouse would be an alternative.
Hello Mam, my name is sayantan and i am studying in TU Freiberg, i am 30 years old and doing masters, i have taken a private health insurance from educare 24 Dr Walter, as it is cheaper than public insurances, so my question is can I do part time job of 20 hrs/week or full time job during semester breaks. I am asking this because for public health insurance they provide the social security number easily but private health insurance companies does not provide social security no, will that be a problem for getting a job, if so whats the solution. Thank you in advance.
Dear Sayantan, thanks for your comment. As a student, your are generally eligible to work up to 20 hours a week irrespective of the type of health insurance you hold in Germany. Unfortunately, the social security number is really important for your employment. As you pointed out correctly, the private insurances often don't issue them. In this case, please contact the German Pension Insurance directly, they can also issue social security numbers. @@sayantansatpathy4657 Hello Sayantan, I'm going to have my masters in Germany too and I was welling to take it from Educare 24 too, so is it a good health insurance? Since it's cheap, and also did you manage to get your social security number? What steps did you follow if so, thank you 😊
