Appreciate the fact that Chevy loaded all these L72 427 Nova's w/L78's when they left the factory in Warren, MI. evidenced by the emissions tune-up decal on the fan shroud. Notwithstanding the cold start, it's obviously in need of lifter adjustment.
The Nova couldn't be ordered from the factory with a 427. They had to be ordered with a 396 and then engine swapped at Yenko. The Camaro and Chevelle could be ordered with the 427s through COPO.

That $800 today would be about $2500 which is truly incredible that he could pick up a car back then like that for the equivalent of $2500. $2500 would not buy you a second hard car today that you could be proud of.

When I was on H.S. in the early '70's a guy I came to know a little bit (friend of a good friend) had a blue '69 Nova that him and his Dad built and installed an L88 427...it had 4.88:1 gears and had the biggest tires he could mount of those days and it would absolutely roast the tires in all 4 gears if he wanted it to...it was the fastest car in town.
He should take it to more shows. Only 37 were built and only between 7-10 are left in various stages of restoration. These were said to be quicker than its big brothers. But I wonder if, like it's uncle, the Buick GSX, it was a 'Hemi Killer' at the strip.
Nice work Lou, Like I said in the Vega that you did, I have a 70 Nova SS L89 4 speed numbers matching ,but I would love to have this 427 what a story and what a car, Thanks again.

I grew up in a Chevy household, Dad's first Nova was a 64 Chevy II, then he had a 67 and then 68 Nova. My first Nova, was a 76 Pontiac Ventura that was pretty much a Nova with Pontiac dressings.
Always dreamed of a nice V8 Nova as a kid, guess I knew I could never afford a Corvette. Always liked that body style. You would think that 427 would just twist up the little Nova frame like a pretzel, I'm guessing the Yenko upgrades must have included to frame modifications.
It's the same front subframe as the 1st gen Camaro with a rear uni-body. They can handle loads of power, way more than a stock L72 can dish out. The biggest problem was with the crappy leaf spring rear suspension that was prone to wheel hop without traction bars.
@@GlassTopRX7 ... Totally agree. My son is in the process of rejuvenating the '71 I gave him. He wrecked it somehow and the differential spit out the U-joint yoke. I had replaced the worn out 307 with a freshened '65 327. It was faster than the original brakes were meant for. Anyway, the rear axle is right now, and I guess he's going to get a stroker 383 engine. The 350 transmission was rebuilt a long time back, but should be fine for the time being. Definitely going to keep the single leaf springs from winding up.
Did anyone notice the rear bumper is out of alignment? Also the reproduction seat covers that are the cheap flat type with no padding in between the heat sealed seams.

The baddest Nova ever built right there. I actually liked the Chevy 427 better than the 454. Always thought the 427 had a nastier sounding idle. Although I do realize that a 454 is a bored out 427. Through the years I have been able to get up close and personal with three legit 427 Yenko Novas and I would bet the farm and a grand that this is a clone. All three of the other Yenkos had Stewart Warner tachometers. This car has a factory 5500 redline tach next to the speedo. The others all had a bench seat and not buckets. Yenko never offered the 427 Nova in Butternut yellow. Looking at some other aspects whoever did the paintwork on this car was a real screwup. When you look at the paint on the firewall it should extend up to the rubber gasket on the cowl instead of the cheezy job they did painting this car. Also, they painted the door latch in the driver's door when it was re-painted. The owner has a classic car dealership in Phoenix Az and if he is uneducated enough to claim this car is for real he is in the wrong business.
Absolutely not. A sleeper looks like milk toast. This car has all the external appearance of a burner. Spoke mags showing disc brakes. Yenko graphics. 427 fender badges. I suppose Ray Charles might not know what it has.
Hi ironhorse127, I think when you have hard and able to have many cars, you might have a tendency to keep one stored away that's special to you. This Nova is that car for him. Lou
there's a 1970 Cranberry Red LT1 350ci/Auto yenko nova on another website currently sitting at over $190.000.00 for an Out the Door Price. So this Guy's 427/4Gear Could Easally Fetch 4 Times that much $800.000.00 i'm sure Especially At those Feeding Frenzy Auction House's Dumping Grounds. this guy has a Gold mine sitting there in Butter Nut Yellow on BASE Black Vinal interior. The Mona Lisa of Entry level 1970's Era Super Upgraded Base car's right there. i'm Also Sure those Socalled Brother's Collection on Muscel Car of the Week Would give/Donate/Trade Both of there Left Testical's for that thing.

they never came that color or with buckets, and where did that cowl tag come from ?? never was a nova came with that engine. yenko installed them so wouldn't have that. wouldn't never find a 427 SS cowl tag. fake fake fake. they only came fathom green Ralley green, red, and metallic light blue. I forget proper name for the blue. nice car, but yenko NO.
I'm not seeing a "427 SS" cowl tag. The 11427 on the tag are the first 5 digits of the vin which simply denotes 1=chevrolet 14=Nova V8 27=2-door sedan. I do see where the tag states this car originally had a black vinyl top. Paint code 40 B. 40 is butternut yellow. Tag looks like a legit tag to me but nothing there would tell you if it's a Yenko. They did make 69 Yenko Chevelles in Butternut but can't comment on this nova. Could be possible. 37 Yenko Novas were produced in 69 but I believe only about 10 of them have actually been accounted for and documented today. Don't know if this one is in the registry or not (didn't see full vin) The owner didn't seem too anxious to talk much about it. One thing I noticed is that it doesn't have the correct factory tach in the dash. Thanks to Lou's excellent camera work you can clearly see that's a 5500 RPM redline tach, not correct for a solid lifter big block chevy, so I'm a little skeptical of the car.
Solid lifter car on a cold start is what you heard that's is normal. It has that typical solid lifter BB chevy mild lope. The 450hp decal is a bit of Yenko marketing it's 425hp Impala L72. Only the 66 Corvette L72 was rated at 450hp from the factory. For all practical the L72 made the same power as the LS6 so there is that.

My favorite of all the Chevy iron block 427 Yenko/COPO cars. The 69 427 Yenko Nova was quicker in the 1/4 mile than both the 427 Yenko Camaro and Chevelle. Not a huge Chevy fan but that's a BAD machine right there. Chevy refused to install the L72 427 in the Nova from the factory because of safety concerns...which doesn't make sense because they had no problem dropping the L72 427 into Camaro's...which weren't much heavier than a Nova

@@kennycunningham2024 It's hard to say.. I went to a car collector's stash in Mesa AZ 9 yrs ago, and that guy had a 69 Nova Yenko SC 427 in silver on black. That car had just what you see here, Camaro gauges, 4 speed, tach in dash, p/s, and pdb up frt. Originally bought in Ohio, so he said, it was kinda rough with bad paint and some rust bubbles, but was complete down to the SS Nova hood. He had Don's signature on some of the paperwork kept in the glovebox, and supposedly the car was 1 of 6 painted silver w blk stripes. 1 thing about the stripe was that it went across the trunk lid, a bit like Mopars did, to join the side stripes. 1 of the mags was cracked and wouldn't hold air, and the tires were dated coded at 1973. The car hadn't run since 1990, but turned by hand with the plugs out. Pretty cool but needed a full resto, IMO.
Who parks a super-rare car away, just lets the battery run down and never drives it ?? Also, Gateway Classics website shows this very car as a TRIBUTE and with the EXACT same miles (speedo disconnected) ?? What gives Lou ?

I grew up in Canonsburg Pennsylvania, the most radioactive small town in America and worked in the same building this beauty was made, I have 2 friends that have 2 chevy's that came out of that dealer. 1 is a cortez silver 71 Nova SS 350 auto, the other was a Tuxedo black 70 monty Carlo 454 but both are not badged Yenko. the monty Carlo is long gone but my friend has had his SS Nova since he was 15 he's now 52. quick cars he paid 800.00 for the Nova in the 80's. thanks for sharing.
Hi Steve's Auto OSTROGOTH, Glad you like this video. Thank you for viewing and sharing / adding to the story. I find it's fun when you see a video you can relate to. It brings me back, and usually puts a smile on my face :-) Lou
That $800 today would be about $2500 which is truly incredible that he could pick up a car back then like that for the equivalent of $2500.
$2500 would not buy you a second hard car today that you could be proud of.
You havent drove this car in over a year...you do not deserve such a one of a kind car...Then it wouldnt even start when you knew you were making a video says ALOT !!!
HI Ricky Timms, Sure he does deserve it. If you read the text, you'll see he has 100+ cars to choose from at his Dealership, it's ok to have a "Special Car" that you keep for yourself. Also, due to his kindness, when at the Dealership I asked "Is there any other special cars?, and he shared he had this one at this house that's one of his favorites, and we immediately when to his house with help understanding the car had not been available for some time, and then we started it so you could enjoy it, Lou
I understand. I once had a 1969 Nova ss 396/375 and you couldnt keep me out of it !!!
That sounds like a VERY FUN CAR :-)
Scary fun...I just watched the Old pace car story...What a great story and cool car...Thanks !!!
Beautiful Lou
Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car Paul :-)
Big dollar car, rare very rare 35 years owned,i own a 69 chevelle for 41 yrs a 300 deluxe model plain jane, vinyl floor was 3 spd standard shift on column
Hi larry lomascolo, Glad you see the value in this car :-) Sounds like you have some cool cars too, Lou
Hi Steve Fowler, Good times, good times :-) Lou
He should take it to more shows. Only 37 were built and only between 7-10 are left in various stages of restoration. These were said to be quicker than its big brothers. But I wonder if, like it's uncle, the Buick GSX, it was a 'Hemi Killer' at the strip.
Hi MLP-Hot-Rod, Agreed only a handful around so it was fun to video and share this one :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Well shall we say thats the ultimate Nova !
I think that's a fair call.
Super rare beauty!!!
Happy to read you appreciate the rarity of this car :-)

What type of Exhaust was installed when New? Chambered or Stock or ? what's in this car?
Hi Harold, I'm not sure. Maybe a Viewer can share knowledge, Lou
Hi Lou! Winner! Awesome car!
Hi Joseph, Happy this one is a Winner for you :-) Lou
These were rocket ships for sure, heck, even a factory baby 305 in the Nova, would flat move out down the road.
Glad to read you appreciate this one Richard Marshall :-) Hope you see many more car on this TH-cam Channel you'll enjoy, Lou
I grew up in a Chevy household, Dad's first Nova was a 64 Chevy II, then he had a 67 and then 68 Nova. My first Nova, was a 76 Pontiac Ventura that was pretty much a Nova with Pontiac dressings.
👍 Awesome!
Happy to read you enjoy this car :-)
Very healthy and desirable. Thanks Lou!! Great car👍👍
Hi Ed B., Fun one to find ! Lou
My dream car. Nice 👍🏼 nova !!
Winner for you :-) Nice.
Always dreamed of a nice V8 Nova as a kid, guess I knew I could never afford a Corvette. Always liked that body style. You would think that 427 would just twist up the little Nova frame like a pretzel, I'm guessing the Yenko upgrades must have included to frame modifications.
Hi Kramden, I think it would be fun driving this one and seeing if it twists :-) Lou
Definitely going to keep the single leaf springs from winding up.
its really nice and I'm very surprised the battery isn't in the trunk, its so hot
Glad you enjoy this one Jensen Interceptor :-) Hope you see many more cars on the Channel you'll enjoy, Lou
You're welcome, and thank you for the kind words :-)

Hi Ash qelon, I'm ok seeing it. Try this link, enjoy! Lou th-cam.com/video/HYQ3wvyx9tg/w-d-xo.html

Always liked the full size Chevy's the best..... particularly the 409/427 powered Biscaynes and Bel Airs. Big sleepers
Hi Jeremy Thompson, This one is a bad one in such a good way :-) Lou
Thats a bad boy right there lol
Oh yeah.
Novas are so overlooked muscle cars
Hi Chris, Thank you for viewing & sharing, Lou
That guy is Mr Excitement 🤓
And he's got a GREAT car too :-)
Per Super Chevy, 37 were built in 1969
Hi Bo Hunter, Thank you for sharing the numbers, appreciate that, Lou
No problem, this is my Nova th-cam.com/video/sGjiG48dj1w/w-d-xo.html
less than 10 remain
What a beast
Hi Matt, Happy to read you appreciate this "Beast" :-) Lou
Don yenko said the big block nova's didn't receive the yenko stripe ? And he built the cars he would know

Hi Anthony, Happy to read you've encountered 3 of them. NICE! Thank you for viewing & sharing, Lou
The definition of sleeper
Until it starts up :-) Can't miss this the sound of this one, Lou
Absolutely not. A sleeper looks like milk toast. This car has all the external appearance of a burner. Spoke mags showing disc brakes. Yenko graphics. 427 fender badges. I suppose Ray Charles might not know what it has.
Doesn’t seem to appreciate what he has. Last time he drove it? 1 year or so. Rich guy with too many toys.
Fantastic piece of history
Hi ironhorse127, I think when you have hard and able to have many cars, you might have a tendency to keep one stored away that's special to you. This Nova is that car for him. Lou
If I had a yenko nova I wouldn't drive it much either.
Bello🎸🎸
:-)
My first auto was a 1972 350 2bbl. What a grocery getter.
Always remember that 1st car :-)
there's a 1970 Cranberry Red LT1 350ci/Auto yenko nova on another website currently sitting at over $190.000.00 for an Out the Door Price.

Amazing how you missed the Tach in the dash and commented on the clock. ??
I like the details, however I missed that one.....
The guy needs a jump start, now I've seen every thing but a damn nice car though!
Hi Clark Griswold, As we were talking about his cars he's selling (see / read the text of this video), he mentioned he had the Yenko Nova at the house and he was kind enough to leave the shop, take the car cover off it, and let me video the car to share with you and my Viewers even though the car sat and has not been seen for a LONG TIME, so the choice is 1) jump start the car so you can hear it, or 2) don't jump start the car and video with no engine sound. I picked # 1:-) Glad you like the car, Lou
I don't give a rat's ass that it needed a jump. It's been sitting forever. It happens. Beautiful car, period.
all looks good except for the yellow paint on the door latch
Technically that is correct Benny. Doors were shot at the factory after assembly, the strikers in the jambs should also have paint.

That didn`t sound very healthy? Or did the oil not run around the engine yet?
I think the fan might have been barely hitting the fan shroud, Lou
sounded like a leaky header gasket ... i'm no expert, lol
they never came that color or with buckets, and where did that cowl tag come from ?? never was a nova came with that engine. yenko installed them so wouldn't have that. wouldn't never find a 427 SS cowl tag. fake fake fake. they only came fathom green Ralley green, red, and metallic light blue.
Chevrolet tried putting 4 cylinder motors in those Nova's back in 1968 but turned out they were too small of a motor.

SPECIAL BAD ASS NOVA....... ACALA,TX.
Glad you enjoy this car :-)
You really need to drive it more than once a year.
I like driving them too.
You just been punked Scott..!😂😂😂
:-0
The Nova they said the car we should not have built.
Hi James, Thanks for viewing and sharing, Lou

I had a 1969 Nova with a 327 30 over with 11.5.1 pistons that wouls do 11's in the quarter. The good old days
Hi FlyTech Bass, Sounds like a wonderful car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
No way a 327 did that in a quarter mile!
Awesome car.69 nova..427..loud.r
Glad you enjoy this "awesome" car :-)
My favorite of all the Chevy iron block 427 Yenko/COPO cars. The 69 427 Yenko Nova was quicker in the 1/4 mile than both the 427 Yenko Camaro and Chevelle. Not a huge Chevy fan but that's a BAD machine right there. Chevy refused to install the L72 427 in the Nova from the factory because of safety concerns...which doesn't make sense because they had no problem dropping the L72 427 into Camaro's...which weren't much heavier than a Nova
Happy to read this one is a favorite of yours :-)
No replacement for displacement
:-)
Nobody noticed the 73 74 dash bezel either...
Thank you for viewing and sharing your thoughts.
$200,000 what I would want for it if it were mine , next year it’s $ I million .

Thank you for viewing & sharing.
Hey buddy.. I'm an old school Big block owner and I can tell you something just doesn't sound correct now I don't know if its the throw out bearing shifter fork deal Or a bad rocker arm ..fan shroud or what . But it's NOT right ..
Hey buddy, Thank you for viewing and sharing a tip.
Dry start up.
Lou... few mistakes on that car...Don Yenko built 34of those not 26.. I wonder?
Hi Yesenia, Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Lou
There were 37 sold new and only 7 real ones known to still exist this is most likely a clone this one is missing the standard rollcage
Hi Jacob Baldwin, This ones "The Real Deal" :-) If it was a clone I would have let you know. Hope you see MANY more cars on the Channel you'll enjoy, Lou
Lou Costabile there were none produced in this color in the registry I'm guessing the owner is unaware of it bring a clone to if it was real it would be one of the three colors actually offered
Thanks for sharing Lou. Not a lot sounds better than a solid lifter 427
0 power stearing cars were Yenkos its a fake
450 H.p.,Don't See a Tach ,& No Rev.Limiter, Gotta Know Ur Car's Heart Beat To Keep that Monster In Tact.
Tach is in the dash cluster. No rev limiter though
Hi Ed Cain, Thank you for viewing and sharing your knowledge, Lou
Im thinking clone, however its still nice
Thanks for sharing.
Who parks a super-rare car away, just lets the battery run down and never drives it ??
Also, Gateway Classics website shows this very car as a TRIBUTE and with the EXACT same miles (speedo disconnected) ?? What gives Lou ?
Hi MrGGPRI, When you own MANY cars, you're allowed to tuck one or two away as your special toys you only bring out for special occasions, like Lou's coming by and I know he's going to want me to share this car with his Viewers so I might as well go home, bring a few people from my shop and get this one started so he can share it with you :-) Bottom line, super cool that he actually went to all the trouble to leave work, bring his paid staff with to get this car going for us. Lou
Good catch MrGGPRI $45,000 and it can be yours now. Tribute in my world means replica!
