    Reminder that Stede didn't need to say "i love you" back because he already said it in episode 4~ Let him have his Han Solo moment

      Maybe this means we’ll see Taika’s Star Wars movie soon 😈

      And ALSO......Stede and Ed had a whole romantic night together! We don't know exactly what they said to each other, but I can't believe Stede wouldn't have said the L word at east once! 😄🥰❤

    It wasn't a pigeon 😂
    David Jenkins confirmed the seagull that landed on the cross was Buttons.
    He also said there would be no version of OFMD without Izzy. So he'll be in S3 in some way.

    Ed: I want to be a fisherman now and become one with nature

    i completely understand why people are upset about izzy’s death but i actually thought it was a beautiful way to end his story. he was able to take responsibility for bringing the worst out of ed, heal from this and realise that life is about loving others and finding community. after living a life devoid of love and tenderness, he died surrounded by his family who made him feel loved and included.
    i think if there is a season 3, izzy’s presence will live on as the crew’s mascot, as their unicorn, as a reminder of their love for each other.

    • @captainblacksand8484

    • @ajnaeye7616
      @ajnaeye7616 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Agreed. It's so sad but he really came around this year, and story wise, what do you do with a character like him who'll never be a normal dude outside of piracy? Go down in a blaze of glory fighting for his crew!
      Next season I could see him being in Ed's subconscious as the tether to piracy he can't let go of even though he's an inn keeper now with Stede.
      If this show continues, I don't think piracy will leave their lives forever and the spirit of Izzy will probably personify that.

      beautiful way of putting it, I added a little something bc I'm super sick of the unfounded hate DJ gets - I shall miss Con a great deal, he was a HUGE part of the show, but with what little they had for S2, it was well dealt with. I'll never forget the song and the speech

  • @ronah80lvl

    I just want to quote my own comment on another video about Izzy's death:
    Izzy left gracefully. He left at the highest point of understanding the value of love and family, after two or even three near-deaths (especially, of course, after the incident with the failed shot when he was in great despair). He got one last chance to know himself, to know love and in the end to leave surrounded by his found family. Not just leave - but willingly take Blackbeard (as the most destructive part of Ed) with him forever. The part for which Izzy was responsible for so long. "Blackbeard, it was us, you and me". I don't know what could be more beautiful than this. I'll miss Izzy, but his death feels full of meaning to me, full of significance. “There he is” - the phrase that sounded from Izzy to Blackbeard (1x10) and to Ed (2x08). This is... the whole world for me. The biggest star of the season. Their flag means death, guys. Now for real.

    What a journey this season has been. Thank you Con O'Neill for your amazing performance. And thank you also to the whole team (writer, director, actors, evryone behind the scenes) for bringing to life this show that has changed my life for the better. Honestly, if he’s dead this season, I want flashbacks with his time with the crew next season. Like,
    I want to see Wee John put make up on him.
    Trying Roach’s food.
    Singing shanties with Frenchie.
    Hanging with the trio (Jim, Olu, and Archie)
    Being a therapist for Black Pete and Lucius.
    That’s all I want next season

      @@annaborchion9285 David Jenkins, the creator/showrunner, has said from the beginning that he wanted it to be a 3-season story. He made the season 2 finale feel like an end in case Max doesn't renew the show, but he's still saying that there will be a season 3 if allowed.

    Man I loved this season so much, It was upsetting and had its own issues, yes, but this entire series brings me so much joy. I grew up with a lot of shows that just queerbaited the shit out of ppl and even made fun of fans being passionate about it so ofmd is such a breath of fresh air. For those upset about Izzy! I get you and send you the biggest hugs, you can always enjoy fanfiction or just delude yourself that he is fine and alive like I did with many characters that sadly passed away

  • @ramsaybaggins
    @ramsaybaggins ปีที่แล้ว +71

    I'm sad he died, but it makes narrative sense to me. He is the last thing tethering Ed to blackbeard and his old life of piracy. His death is the symbolic end of the golden age of piracy, the age where Izzy thrived and made his life. It's sad, but it's something that needed to happen as a narrative function. DJenks also said in an interview they have left the set up for season 3 but wanted to leave Ed and Stede somewhere where they could be happy just in case they don't get renewed, and I think he managed that. I really do hope we get season 3 though, there's so much more to tell.

      In S1E4 Izzy reminds Ed that pirates don't retire, mostly they just die.
      In S2E4 Izzy drags himself to his room to drink chanting "You live alone, you die alone."
      In S2E8 Izzy antagonizes Ricky to delay the Revenge crew's hanging, and taunts the man so that he targets Izzy first (can't tell me that wasn't deliberate) - and the Revenge crew bring him aboard the ship so that he doesn't die alone on the beach like any other wounded pirate.

      @tiffyj ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Oh this would be nice. I noticed, that quite a few reaction channels, that usually watch queer content never reacted to Good Omens. Of course there could be a couple of reasons for this (they’ve already seen it or they don’t like the overall premise). But maybe it is the fact that the show only became “officially queer” in terms of the main characters in s2 and we have to be patient until the word spreads. Overall I have the feeling that there are less reactions to Good Omens in comparison to other shows with a similar fandom (size), which makes me a bit sad.

    As someone who didnt like Izzy in S1 but came to love him in S2 i was pretty sad that he died but saw it coming and his speech definitely put him in place as a matyr for piracy. Id be interested to see s3 and him being like a symbol for the resilience of pirates especially if they introduce the East India Co.

    • @moll7674
      @moll7674 ปีที่แล้ว

      i felt exactly the same way - i was pretty indifferent to him s1 but really liked him this season, i think him dying in a place where he’s accepted and found love in the crew is a good place for him to go. i figured he was one of the most likely people to die just by his arc, but i really love the idea that it’s worth finding happiness regardless of if it’s cut short. like he said to lucius, living with resentment is worse than moving on

Maybe with the reception it's been getting, Max will get their heads out of their arses and make a strong commitment to the 3rd and final season. I also trust Daddy Jenkns to do right by Izzy should a 3rd season happen. I'm trusting the process here.

    Thank you for *immediately* observing that being Blackbeard wasn't the only thing Ed was good at-- that he was good at being Stede's boyfriend, too. That feels key to Ed's actions in the rest of this episode, and why things are different: what he learned as a pirate might help him get back to Stede, but he doesn't have to be entirely identified with piracy to use what he's learned. What you said about Ed being reborn-- yes! That moment where he comes out of the water is part Botticelli Birth of Venus and part Bond Girl entrance, and I am here for it.
    Re: Izzy-- I do get people being upset about his death, but unlike many of the background characters with genuinely senseless deaths in OFMD, Izzy gets a number of the things actual people tend to want when they're actively dying (familiar surroundings, beloved people present, and opportunity to say what he hasn't said but wants to). As someone who's a hospice volunteer, and has thought a lot about what I want my death to be like, I'd like better pain management than rum can offer, but otherwise, this is pretty much #goals.

  • @PizzaHorseProductions

    My headcanon is that Izzy is in the gravy basket, and the first 3 episodes of s3 (which I have not given up hope on 🤡) will involve bringing him back. Historically, Blackbeard blockaded the Charleston harbor to get medical supplies. That’s a perfect opportunity to resurrect our unicorn

  • @pia91
    @pia91 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    over on twitter and other socials there's quite the...discourse about izzy's death and some downright twats took to attacking the creator of the series, accusing him of an "bury the gay/disabled" trope which is SO wild when literally 99% of the people in the series are queer and you've got seveal other disabled disabled characters as well.
    Am I sad that Izzy is dead? FUCK YES!
    Did I think it way a bit rushed? yes, but that wasn't their fault, go to max - they only gave their LITERAL FLAGSHIP SHOW 8 eps instead of 10 andway less cash to film it, too!
    All that being said, I still think Izzy got a beautiful story arch as a secondary(!) character and his last speech, the way he and Ed re-connected and the fact that Stede and Ed made their home mere yards away from his burial ground is such a lovely gesture!

  • @serenjns

    Kinda had the feeling that this season and by extension, Izzy’s death was a goodbye. I can’t get this thought outta my head that Izzy represents the show itself and Ed is the fandom. Telling us it’s okay, we’ll be fine, we have each other and that the spirit of this show will live on through us. That they were honoured to have had such loving fans, honoured to have brought joy and community.
    I take some comfort in that.
    I do understand the justifiable reasons ppl would be upset, but all I can say is “don’t cry cos it’s gone, smile cos it happened”.
    Atleast it’s not as painful and as homophobic than a certain angel being yeeted into darkness for all eternity after confessing their queer love.

      Agree. Like David planned for 3 seasons but how HBO has been with S2 and how they cut their budget their episode length, etc. It feels like he's ready for cancelation, like he has no trust I'm HBO for renewal and honestly, valid. If it ends here then it ends here, at least we got a satisfying ending for the main ship and we assume the story goes into the end of the golden age if piracy from there.

      @@melissagreen7327 I hope in the case of cancellation that they shop it around to different networks, but what with the strikes and whatnot, I have little faith in that possibility. If this is all we get and nothing more, I’m satisfied with the level of effort to both conclude the story AND leave a door open for more stories in the future. • @melodyknievel515
    @melodyknievel515 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I was in denial about Izzy's death for so long. I used to be convinced our lord and savior Sea Witch would bring him back, especially after it was confirmed Buttons was the one who landed on Izzy's grave. Now, I'm not so sure. Con O'Neill did a TH-cam interview a couple of weeks ago (don't remember with who, but if you look up his interviews and sort by date it's right there) talking about how the news was broken to him that Izzy would be killed off, and how he had to grieve for the character and learn to move on, and he was genuinely emotional while talking about it. Also, Taika has come out to say if there's a season 3, he doesn't think it would include Ed or Stede because their story has come to a close. That's led me to believe that when Jenkins said there would be no season 3 without Izzy, he means there's probably not going to be one at all, but maybe didn't want to come out and say it because there's still a lot up in the air. In that interview too, the interviewer brought up season 3 and Con said he didn't know if it would happen, but he hopes it will for the sake of the rest of the cast, but I just got a sense he also doesn't think it's going to happen.
    If Taika and Rhys don't want to/don't think it's necessary to be in another season, it's definitely not going to happen. But regardless, I unfortunately think Izzy's death is final. And I guess believing this was the last season makes it a little easier to swallow.

    Lots of amazing comments here already. If the show's ending, then this wraps the whole story up well. If the show isn't ending, well... the show-runner has said on socials that there's no way a S3 happens w/o Con O'Neill and we've ended with Buttons the sea witch / seagull (pigeon -- love that) at Izzy's side. So, much as Barbossa was dead but not really in POTC, there's room for a little Calypso / Buttons magic to bring Izzy back to us (in whatever form that might happen) should OFMD get picked up for S3.

    I think they ended it this way because the renewal of Season 3 was still up in the air (and still is). And obviously, most streaming platforms LOVE cancelling shows with LGBTQ+ rep. So this ending was probably more of a ‘just in case’ thing so that way it doesn’t end in some sort of cliffhanger, and if that is the case, I think that is a smart move. There is still a lot of unanswered questions though like why Stede and Ed decided to stay behind and become innkeepers when they were literally in the talks with Zheng about getting revenge the scene before. I feel like if they had just been given 10-15 more minutes of runtime, it would have not been so rushed.
    As far as Izzy’s death goes, I am just on a rollercoaster of thoughts right now. One moment I’ll be pissed, the next moment I’ll be thinking about how it might have made sense, then I’ll go back to thinking it was unnecessary. I don’t think I’ll ever really know how I feel about that lol.
    If we do get a season 3, I definitely hope we still get to see Izzy in some way, shape or form, he’s grown on me as a character, plus I’ve just grown to love and adore Con O’ Neil as an actor and I’d be devastated if this was it for him for OFMD

    Izzy's death actually makes no narrative sense at all. They gave him the character development of a spouse just getting out of an codependent abusive relationship. They showed him learning who he is if he can let go of Blackbeard, forming his own relationships outside of that, letting go of the emotional repression making everyone miserable. He admitted he was wrong and was making an effort to change. He was healing from his suicide attempt and learning what he had to live for besides Ed. But he died from a lucky gun shot, not as a sacrifice, but because all of the 'feeding your darkness' that was given barely any screen time - last season. He's been categorized as irredeemable, as if Izzy was the only thing forcing Ed to act like a monster. Instead they made his death one last justification for Ed's behavior like he had no free will.

    All season 2 was rushed, I can't understand why, maybe because of the budget, I don't know, all I know is that everything was rushed, it left some questions and yes, Izzy's death was completely unnecessary. Why? Because he "symbolise" Ed's old life as Blackbeard? Ed could still have a new life, he and Stede could still open the inn while Izzy left with the others. I get the point, but still, it was unnecessary. I admit to being very disappointed with this season, I much prefer the first one. I don't need a third season, if that's how it has to end, fine, but I honestly don't care for a sequel.

    Also the whole conversation around Izzy is getting myopic. And this is coming from someone who has loved Izzy since s1. Season 1 was clearly about Stede and his journey while Season 2 focused on Ed and his so the showrunners, working with a reduced season and an uncertain future, did their best to end the show in a way that makes narrative sense. maybe it doesn't work for everyone but I would rather some closure than a cliffhanger that could possibly remain unresolved. I've seen so many "the season is ruined for me" comments and a few videos and it's kinda rubbing me the wrong way that people seemingly don't understand how much studio influence directs the flow and outcome of a show...

    It feels like they tried to cram a 10 or 12 episode season into 8 episodes and ultimately failed despite the highlights like Izzy. Speaking of Izzy, HOW FUCKING DARE THEY DO THAT TO MY BOY?! I actually predicted his death at the end of episode 7, but I refused to believe they would sink so low. So when it happened...I was a sobbing wreck. What a random, bullshit way to go! And all the missed opportunities!
    I really liked the interactions between Izzy and Stede, especially in episode 5 with the pirate lessons. Imagine they kept it up, that Ed saw their blossoming friendship. That Stede would show compassion and understanding for Ed and Izzy and act as mediator between their fraught relationship. That he encourages Ed and Izzy to actually have a deep, meaningful conversation where they genuinely apologize to each other for everything. Maybe Izzy does go off and becomes captain of the Revenge to learn who he is without Blackbeard while Ed and Stede create the Inn as a safe haven for them, but they separate with, if not a happy friendship, then a healing friendship. Maybe in season 3 they could come back together stronger than ever, after all: distance makes the heart grow fonder. Maybe by the end of season 3, a glimmer of Steddy Hands was shown since all three would've grown so much it could be possible. Maybe have Lucius and Pete plan their wedding, Lucius being a total bridezilla, and Izzy knocks some sense into him. I don't know! Just something other than this!
    I'm strictly in the fuming and angry stage of my emotions regarding this freaking show. I think the worst sin to come out of that finale is that I'm not excited for a 3rd season. I mean, I'd still watch it too complete the series, but at least right now, it feels hollow. They made me lose my care for the other characters, except Izzy, whom they KILLED OFF LIKE OLD YELLER to the point where it could end here, and I'd be indifferent to it. And this was my favorite show! Like... what the flying fv€k!😡😡😡😡😡😡🤮🤮🤮😭😭😭😭😱😱😱😱

    Apparently an unpopular opinion, but I think Izzy really needed to go at this point in time. No, no, no, listen to me. They wrote this episode to wrap the series up just in case S3 is never greenlit. Keeping that in mind, killing Izzy is a necessary step, and also one they can easily backpedal on. Ed already came back from the dead - he died as Blackbeard and came back as Ed. Izzy has now died as Blackbeard as well. Buttons is a fucking seawitch, the seagull landing on the cross is obviously him on his way to revive Izzy should the series be revived as well. Izzy was never a main character, his thing was always to be an extension to Blackbeard. Now that Blackbeard is gone, Izzy is free from his shackles as well, ready to be reborn as Izzy.
    Edit. Also the inn is a 100% a plot between them, The Revenge crew and Zheng to build a new fleet from the ground up to take down the Prince.

    • @unski7051
      @unski7051 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      AND ANOTHER unpopular opinion!!!! I think Izzy took too much space from other side characters. I get that they needed to develop him far enough to kill him at the end, but they really did it at the cost of Lucius and Jim specifically, since their character traits were handed over to Izzy. Another thing that could have been solved if HBO just had given them 10 episodes. I think the death would have been handled better if id had happened in the end of imaginary episode 9 or the beginning of imaginary episode 10.

      @@bitchenboutique6953 I really enjoyed the way Stede and Ed were written this season, it's a shame similar love wasn't shown to the side cast. Fang did get some extra love, but like Frenchie and Roach seemed to barely even be there. Again, I recognise it's because of the budget cuts, but still. Lucius made me especially upset because he was set up for a great arc this season, and then that arc was given to Izzy instead. Lucius was also established as kind of a Stede stan in season 1, an unwilling friend almost, if you will. While I liked that the crew and Stede accepted Izzy as one of their own, I'm sad Izzy replaced Lucius in that regard as well. Then when it comes to Jim, their arc last season was about self discovery and finding peace, and this season could have shown them expand on that. Instead, Izzy was given the exact same arc as Jim last season, and any interesting aspects regarding Jim's gender were handed over to Izzy, and any interesting takes regarding polyamory were more like just slight nods, blink-and-you'll-miss it moments.
      In short I really hope that if S3 does happen, they lean more heavily into what's happening with the Crew before reuniting them with Ed and Stede and possibly Izzy in the later half of the season.

    • @lizh6535
      @lizh6535 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@unski7051 Yeah unfortunately the show had lost 1 hour of time, so the writers were making sure Izzy was redeemed, to the point where when Ed or Stede needed to talk to someone, it was mostly Izzy they spoke to. Like, that man knew how to sneak around the ship on his horsey leg.

    • @unski7051
      @unski7051 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@lizh6535 The worst part is that the outrage this episode triggered has been loud enough that now renewing the show seems even more unlikely than it seemed before. It's a shame, it's one of HBO's flagship shows (haha) but they're so afraid of gay people that they're willing to throw it all under the bus. I generally liked the 2nd season save for the 7th episode, so I genuinely believe that 2 more episodes would have worked miracles especially with the pacing. The 2 last episodes had enough stuff in them to make up four episodes. Izzy's death and funeral aside, other things that desperately needed more focus would have been Lucius and Black Pete's wedding, Ed thinking Stede was dead, Ed and Stede fucking TALKING about retiring together or even about their relationship, and establishing the Prince whose name I've already forgotten as a proper villain for the season.

    There are moments in the episode that I really liked, for example the reunion between Stede and Ed. Izzy's death doesn't bother me. It's sad, but he was a pirate, he killed people too. We can't expect everyone to die peacefully. He died under his own rules, defending his crew and feeling loved. What I didn't like is that everything seems to happen in a few hours. They should have shown that the destruction of the Pirate Republic lasted days, thus making Ed's physical and spiritual journey credible, and the fact that he later managed to find his Blackbeard outfit. I think this ending should have lasted a few minutes longer. And I also found it a little confusing that Ed decided to stay as a innkeeper, even though it was something he already wanted. He had told Stede about it during his treasure hunt and in the conversation with Izzy, after meeting Stede personally, Ed makes it clear that he wants to stop being a pirate, so his first intention was to steal Stede's identity. However, the episode seems to show Ed making peace with Blackbeard and deciding that being a pirate is the best thing he knows how to do.
