Some fun facts about this incredible episode: 1. Matt Braly, the creator of Amphibia and one of the main creative forces of the Gravity Falls team, was the director of "Northwest Mansion Mystery." He went on record stating that Pacifica was his favorite character to write for and came up with the best material for the season 2 episodes focused on her. He also won an Annie award in 2016 for Outstanding Achievement, Directing in an Animated TV/Broadcast Production for this episode in particular. 2. Although not a full redemption arc, Matt's writing for Pacifica gave her a brief but amazing opportunity to defy the one-dimensional, rich girl bully stereotype season 1 had seemingly set her on. Her brief signs of self-improvement and breaking with toxic influences of authority figures also became the foundation for one of the female main characters when he started creating Amphibia after the series ended. The only difference is that, while Gravity Falls only gave a small amount of time to show the beginnings of Pacifica's redemption and coming-of-age story, Amphibia was structured entirely around it's main character recognizing the toxic mindset she'd been stuck in and actively working to improve herself and the lives of those she touches. 3. The ship name between Dipper and Pacifica is most commonly known as "Dipcifica." The ship itself existed back in season 1, but there were few fans following it then and found themselves overshadowed by the far larger "Wendip" ship of the time. That instantly changed after this episode. Waves of fanart and stories centered around Dipper and Pacifica together began flooding the fan sites and continues to see a steady stream to this very day. Alex Hirsch hadn't factored a romantic pairing between these two into the show, but the outpouring of support by fans didn't go unnoticed. They left some clues in Journal 3, the comic series "Forgotten Legends," and recent "Book of Bill" and its ARG website that strongly implies they have an attraction to one another, but (in classic rom-com fashion) don't want to fully admit it. In essence, Dipcifica is the Lumity of the series but without the explicit confirmation from the creator. Regardless, their ship is by far the most healthy and natural one that came out of the fandom and the pair has become a foundational pillar in most of the great fan art and stories that explore events after the series. You can find the best Dipcifica pieces by asking for recommendations on one of the Gravity Falls subreddits. Just be ready to see a lot of people in the comments repeating "this is the way" like their pairing is some kind of sacred creed (even though it is). 4. When decoded, the A1Z26 cipher in the episode's end page reads "STANISNOTWHATHESEEMS STANISNOTWHATHESEEMS STANISNOTWHATHESEEMS."
"in essence, dipcifica is the lumity of this series" in no sense is dipcifica the lumity of this series. at most they're someone-else's-enemy-to-friends, which is *nothing.*

It's cursed!" which is another 'canonish' book which shows, again, Mabel shipping the two and to be in her future plans as the matchmaker. and yet again, in the blacklight edition of journal 3, Mabel is shown to know about Dipper's crush on Pacifica, so yeah that's neat lol.

I love the way this episode shows how good the Pines twins are for Pacifica. Mabel's ability to accept Pacifica as she is opened Pacifica up to accepting others in turn. But Mabel could never make Pacifica truly reconsider her value in her family. That's where Dipper came in. While Mabel was easy on her, Dipper never relented in telling Pacifica how it was, and actually pushed her to change as a person. But he'd have never gotten that opportunity if Mabel hadn't softened her up first. It's a perfect balance!

I'm not exaggerating when I say that people shipped Dipper and Pacifica HARD because of this episode... It's both astonishing and insane that not only did they humanize Pacifica, but also make her both likable and empathetic... *IN JUST ONE EPISODE.*
I don’t ship them. Because it take more for me than one trauma dump to forgive an entire season of bullying the main character. If she wasn’t pretty, everyone would treated her as just a bully. Her character development was rushed in my opinion. Just because your abused at home is no excuse for bullying others.
@@nikogarcia201 I wouldn't say Pacifica is a bully, just a typical snobby rich girl... The worst she's ever done was have Stan pelted with tomatoes by the townspeople and makes fun of Mabel's sweater. Which is nothing compared to what Gideon and Robbie did. It isn't much of a trauma dumping either, the moment Dipper came back, she was genuinely happy to see him before he confronted her about the truth. She could've owned up and have no shame in lying to him... but she felt afraid, ashamed, trying to fix the misunderstanding up until her father rings the bell. I would say they did a lot to flesh out her character and redeem her than what they did with Robbie in the last episode, and up until that episode, Robbie was seen as an annoying jerk who you don't feel much or any sympathy for. Still, it would've been nice to see more of Pacifica fleshed out or more interaction with Dipper in later episodes (I would vastly prefer that over that one Road Trip episode later on...)
So a couple not so fun facts about this episode: 1. The pose that Dipper takes when he’s turned into wood is the same pose that the shapeshifter said would be the “last form he would ever take.” 2. The bell is likely some form of Pavlovian conditioning. Based on how Pacifica visibly winces when the bell is rung it’s likely that her dad used to use it as an indication for when they would beat her. To the point that now they only need to ring the bell for her to “get the message.”
Considering that we later confirm that Pacifica's mother is all about looks, they probably Pavloved Paci just so they would not have to bother with wounds hurting their daughter's beauty. Which is even more f'd up.
One quick thing...the Lumberjack Ghost's name is Archibald Corduroy, which makes her a relative of Wendy's. So, the Northwests screwed HER family over along with the Pines' and everyone else in town
Fun fact about the agents: between "Scary-oke"(season 2 episode 1) and "Northwest Mansion Mystery"(this episode), they occasionally popped in the background, foreshadowing their return.
yeah, I also remember there was a shot of stuff that the Mystery Shack has in their walls and floor and a bug was also present and most probably planted by them.
Something that still gets to me is the bell. People aren't dogs, what did they do to condition her so thoroughly that even with the threat of death and losing a new found friend it still holds her back almost stopping her.
This is one of my favourites, the atmosphere of the mansion, the horrific imagery the ghost provides, and Pasifica’s character growth add so much, and the lesson about not having to be defined by your parents actions and having the courage to be better is one to live by. Interesting note, the jorunal reveals that the ghost is one of Wendy’s ancestors.
Using conditioning on your daughter like that is super fucked up. Pacifica was...born into a tough life in many ways too. Imagine having a family so messed up they commission paintings of their scummiest moments when it could be used against them. They're *_proud_* of it. It's quite a nice design point to have Pacifica's bangs look like a broken bell with a gap that wasn't there earlier in the show.
12:41 She isn't being racist, that's a Moby Dick reference. The main character of the novel had his leg bit off by an albino whale. He spent the rest of the book searching for it with a crazy obsession, and then got himself killed fighting it in the end. 'Seeking the white whale' is a phrase used to describe overreaching or trying for something that the pursuit of would destroy you even if you obtained it in the end.
oh mr. Torgue's grandma lmao. But tbh tho, I respect her cause I've seen many youtubers who do react and they just get carried away with different things and they don't pause the show and then they miss all the good part and not even go back to check it again
@@timfortune9It seems like they’re choosing shorter series before longer ones, which makes sense. More variety to enjoy earlier on, rather than go through a longer series like Adventure Time/Steven Universe before seeing a different show.
Neat thing that you get a small window in how the twins affected the town by removing the Society of the Blind Eye. Now that they are gone, the weird things that happen around the town are published in the town newspaper.

Alicia gotta be the only reactor to not go "Holy crap how did they get away with this! This is a kid's show!" to the bleeding animals chanting "Ancient sins" scene
29:07 I don’t think it’s at all like that situation. In your example, I chose to help and even if they’re ungrateful later it’s because I wanted to. In Dippers example, he was lied to by omitting the details of the haunting. Because if Dipper knew they could stop the haunting by letting the common folk in he probably would’ve told them to do that instead of taking care of it himself.
Agreed. They handed their problem to Dipper and "repaid" him by giving something they were never actually entitled to. It was also easily preventable by just doing the right thing but they chose to drag a completely unrelated kid into it instead
Yeah, exactly. It's like if someone hired me to find their lost pet but then I found out that they used it as an outlet to de-stress by abusing it. I would totally go back and get that pet away from them, undoing what I did, because I would have never accepted to help if I knew the truth.
This is when things started to change in Gravity Falls, when everyone could finally remember the weirdness. When the Society of the Blind Eye was still around, people still wouldn't recognize the work Dipper has been doing. So it was neat to see that change so early in this episode. Loved that moment where Dipper and Pacifica click and it surprised them both.
AAAAAAAALL ABOAAAAAAAARD FOR DIPCIFICA! So remember all those zombies in the premier? Kinda weird that there’d be that many dead bodies just in the ground of the woods near the shack, right? A lot of those are actually lumberjacks that died in the flood!
And thus DipCifica was born Also the pose Dipper was in when being turned to wood was the same as the one the Shapeshifter took after transforming into him being Frozen
Your "rich person party" story reminds me of my own experience at one. I was in a production of Mamma Mia, and the cast party was being held in my friend's house. It wasn't a full mansion, but it had a theatre, library, bar, and tons of other incredibly expensive things. The main reason this surprised me was that my friend was an incredibly down-to-Earth person. He's the type of guy that wears Hawaiian shirts every day.
SO glad I was here for the late night stream of episode 10 and 11. These episodes were EPIC! One of my favorite Gravity Falls episodes! It was 5:00 AM when I finished watching her "Not What He Seems" reaction! 😭 1:35: 😂 3:24: Alicia

Worth pointing out that while not an episode about racism, it is about classism lol. Remember you metioning the similar themes in OP and MHA right now and had to save it for this video. Hope you have a good road trip.
Ah yes, Alicia tea, love it. Also every time that bell gets used my heart breaks a little. It's so fucked up! Also while I like the phrase "eat the rich", I'm not gonna lie turning the rich into trees is a bomb ass way to go as well!
As a wise Dipper once said: "I think we all knew we were lying." I'd never eat from any kind of fountain. It's an invitation for someone to do something disgusting.
If you notice from the first episode of the season. All the zombies were the lumber folk, that’s why there was so many dead people under gravity falls.
This is a good episode for a certain "ship" to finally set sail, and it made fans really start to see pacifica as more than just an ocasional antagonist One cipher in this one bears an omen for the next episode, the other is funny, I'll let you guess which is which: Credits: "NEXT UP ON UTBAHC: DID ALIENS WRITE THE CONSTITUTION? CRAWDADS IN TIARAS! AND FLORIDA: THE SHOW" Page: "STANISNOTWHATHESEEMS" "STANISNOTWHATHESEEMS" "STANISNOTWHATHESEEMS"
Definitely watch Amphibia cause it’s a LOT shorter than Adventure Time (which can get confusing if you don’t pay attention) and Steven Universe which is long but very good and emotional
Usually it'll be difficult for me to vote on the poll Until I saw a poll option of a certain series... that she might possibly watch after finishing..... Gravity Falls......... Edit: if you know, you know 👀
if i'm remembering correctly the reason there were so many dead bodies to turn into zombies in the first episode of this season was because of the flood
One of the best episodes that give us the best ship of the series. Dipcifica is just one of those ships you didn't realize you wanted/needed until you got it. Alex Hirsch even posted after S2E3 that now that things were settled with Wendy that they could now focus on Dipper/Pacifica. Speaking of which, such growth and understanding of her character. BTW, that bell use is a form of child abuse meant to control and condition. Basically, you start at infancy, where you ring the bell and then do something bad o the infant (scare them, yell at them, slap them, make a loud noise, etc), and the child comes to associate the sound of the bell with something bad happening. So whenever you ring the bell, the child does what you want out of fear. It's illegal and sick. This is done with animals too in some cases for training.

Still, it would've been nice to see more of Pacifica fleshed out or more interaction with Dipper in later episodes (I would vastly prefer that over that one Road Trip episode later on...)
20:12 My and Alicia’s minds went to very different places sewing those deer antlers.
Alicia: Shikanoko Nokonoko Koshitantan!
Me: Let’s begin…
So a couple not so fun facts about this episode:
1. The pose that Dipper takes when he’s turned into wood is the same pose that the shapeshifter said would be the “last form he would ever take.”
Note that the pose Dipper made as he was petrified is the same pose the Shapeshifter predicted he'd make once he "perished"
Outside of beating, it could have been isolation. Locking her in an unpleasant room for hours on end can have that effect on people.
The white whale was a reference to the story of Moby Dick and how Captain Ahab died trying to hunt and kill it.
definitely Amphibia or Adventure time..
fun fact: Adventure time grows and matures overtime with the viewers
29:40 - The Parents literally have her trained like a Dog. Instead of a Whistle, it's a f-ing Bell!
😠😠😠
girl got pavloved
How confident you have to be about your shady dealings to make portraits of in a less secure hiding place.
22:58 “You may fascinate a woman by giving her a piece of cheese.”
Not them cutting out Alicia's reaction to the hug after catching the ghost from the reaction. Maaaaaaaaan, that's bullshit.
"THAT WAITOR REALLY NOT BRINGING THAT FOOD RIGHT NOW!" That line is gonna be stuck in my head everytime I see an argument at dinnertime now.
And we finally find out where all those buried bodies came from in the zombie episode!
fun fact, Caviar was once deemed only fit for Prisoners to eat. Crazy how Culture works eh?
Next episode is coming!
THE DAY EVERYTHING CHANGES FOREVER!!!!
THe fire nation attacks next episode!
I think she realized that as Candy was saying it
Ah yes the episode I’ve wanted her to see….just to see how she’d react to dipper and Pacifica
21:12 Yeah, maybe he just wants to axe them a few questions.
Ghost harassers was the best joke I ever heard
Dont judge a book by its cover
But when that cover is holding an axe, you can make some judgements
Don't hate the axe-wielding maniac, hate the axe-wielding mania.
Ah the episode where you find that Pacifica is a decent human being
oh mr. Torgue's grandma lmao.
But tbh tho, I respect her cause I've seen many youtubers who do react and they just get carried away with different things and they don't pause the show and then they miss all the good part and not even go back to check it again
AMPHIBIA. THE DISNEY TRINITY, LETS GOOOOOOO
She's leaving it to a vote.
I think we know where it's going.
Did Alicia say she's going to react to Amphibia? If she said it in the reaction then I missed it
@@timfortune9 knowing her fans i have a big hunch it's gonna be Steven Universe
@@Shady_br Perhaps. But she did have that as an option to vote for after "Owl House" and "Gravity Falls" still won. So who knows.
If you thought this episode was wild, the next one is going to turn your brain upside down.
34:15 she recognized our existence guys!!! holy shit we did it! Fuck, yeah! Emma Goldman and The CNT FAI would be proud of us.
Oh and a little story note that doesn't spoil anything. The ghost is a Corduroy. Yes, he and Windy are related.
One of my personal favorites. Excellent character work, and it’s one of the scariest in all the series. Also, everything about that bell used to control Pacifica is extremely messed up given just a modicum of thought
Alicia Ngl I love your stories. They are random but entertaining 😂
Alicia gotta be the only reactor to not go "Holy crap how did they get away with this! This is a kid's show!" to the bleeding animals chanting "Ancient sins" scene
This is funny because she did say that when she watched sonic boom out of context, which is much tamer.
Man, the Northwests make the Blights look like dang saints
This is when things started to change in Gravity Falls, when everyone could finally remember the weirdness. When the Society of the Blind Eye was still around, people still wouldn't recognize the work Dipper has been doing. So it was neat to see that change so early in this episode.
Loved that moment where Dipper and Pacifica click and it surprised them both.
I have my pinky finger up and grabbing a imaginary cup as I watch this FUCKING TEA!!!!! 🫡🫡
And thus DipCifica was born
Also the pose Dipper was in when being turned to wood was the same as the one the Shapeshifter took after transforming into him being Frozen
1:35: 😂
3:24: Alicia
I've been waiting for so long for this episode, it's one of my favourites from this series.
Godlike side-tangent, godamn that was good
HERE WE GO!!! This is my favorite episode!
Ancient sins. Ancient sins. Ancient sins.
3:14 And that's why I always try to hold my comment for 20 more seconds. The number of times things like that happen is insane.
...
*snrk*
EDIT: SHE BLANCHIN'
SHE BLANCHIN'
SHE BLANCHIN' IN THAT MANSION
IT'S NOT HER OWN MANSION
(Sorry not sorry)
Worth pointing out that while not an episode about racism, it is about classism lol. Remember you metioning the similar themes in OP and MHA right now and had to save it for this video. Hope you have a good road trip.
Today's secret message is "NEXT UP ON UTBAHC: DID ALIENS WRITE THE CONSTITUTION? CRAWDADS IN TIARAS! AND FLORIDA: THE SHOW."
4:50: Dipper's a savage! 😭😂
27:13: This backstory is so sad.
See this is why I'm an introvert, I can't deal with people drama :p
ADVENTURE TIME! HERE WE COME!!!!
Ah yes, Alicia tea, love it. Also every time that bell gets used my heart breaks a little. It's so fucked up! Also while I like the phrase "eat the rich", I'm not gonna lie turning the rich into trees is a bomb ass way to go as well!
As a wise Dipper once said: "I think we all knew we were lying."
I'd never eat from any kind of fountain. It's an invitation for someone to do something disgusting.
Ah, my favourite episode as a Dipcifica shipper. I've been waiting a long time for this!
If you notice from the first episode of the season. All the zombies were the lumber folk, that’s why there was so many dead people under gravity falls.
In the house I grew up in, we had a projector and screen in the basement, so it was kind of our theatre room. I miss those times.
4:48 Dipper is a legend 😂
Neat fact: When dipper is turned to wood he takes the exact pose the shapeshifter said he would. The prophecy is fulfilled.
I just noticed that Twitch Chat doesn't have a way to say no
Alicia, please think about giving the rat bois a shaking head emote
My second favorite episode of the show. Never thought I’d see blood dripping from taxidermied animals like that in a Disney cartoon
This is a good episode for a certain "ship" to finally set sail, and it made fans really start to see pacifica as more than just an ocasional antagonist
One cipher in this one bears an omen for the next episode, the other is funny, I'll let you guess which is which:
Credits: "NEXT UP ON UTBAHC: DID ALIENS WRITE THE CONSTITUTION? CRAWDADS IN TIARAS! AND FLORIDA: THE SHOW"
Page:
"STANISNOTWHATHESEEMS"
"STANISNOTWHATHESEEMS"
"STANISNOTWHATHESEEMS"
The amount of fan art and fan comics I’ve seen on the internet of Dipper and Pacifica together is too much to count.
Rise Dipcifica fans, Rise! This is the episode we so waited for!
my favorite part of this episode is the based Dipper moment at 4:45
he just like me fr
Ah, the episode that created Dipcifica. Good times.
Definitely watch Amphibia cause it’s a LOT shorter than Adventure Time (which can get confusing if you don’t pay attention) and Steven Universe which is long but very good and emotional
Usually it'll be difficult for me to vote on the poll
Until I saw a poll option of a certain series... that she might possibly watch after finishing.....
12:05 on a new year we get some bread with red caviar. Not the fancy kind, just from the store, but I always liked it.
Also since my dad and grandpa catch fish in the summer I also very early in life was getting some of the dried fish with caviar inside it. It has its own, special taste to be honest.
Tho it’s understandable that it has taste that not everyone will find tasty.
16:35 well, spill it :) I’m usually skip, but it’s not like I’m gonna melt like sugar in rain from some histories
Next up is the best episode in the series
"There were so many rats on the walls we couldn't sleep" did we just get a Batman-esque beginning for the rat queen in this gravity falls episode?
After she just embraced the rats, became the rat, until she built her queendom
It is nearly time. For what, you may ask? A question as old as time.
21:24, yeah he just wants to axe them a question
Thus, the Dipper x Pacifica ship sailed.
And Fandom lost its colective shit, even more so after reading the comics and Journals.
Legit noone not a single soul considered this
Which comic?
Weirdly enough I thought of this like February of 2013 while daydreaming in class but thought nothing of it until NWMM came out
@@SatoK47The graphic novel ‘lost legends’ has a bunch of stories, one of which continues pacifica’s arc with dipper
Like in the OG Batman when they are in the dining room and Michael Keaton goes "You know, I don't think I've ever been in this room".
Oh, I've been waiting for this episode. One of my personal favorites!
3:03 I've done that before. Not on this channel yet but still.
Grenda's almost as wide as the other kids are tall.
"Northwest Mansion Mystery": A broken promise...
After youre done with the show you should read Journal 3 and the Book of Bill on your own time, they're great companions to the show and can be enjoyed by anyone, not jsut the msot diehard of fans
6:26 i am from central amrica and yes i saw it once... and i can respect that because how well groomet the house was
13:24 I just realized that Grenda has 5 fingers on her hand and four on her feet.
