Vitrafied walls don't seem to offer any defensive advantage so it probably was from a ritualistic or cultural purpose.
Stacking many timbers within the forts and a stiff breeze is all that is needed. Perhaps the burning were done to commemorate the death of a chieftain or the completion of the hillfort.

@@richardconnelly7141 Opinions have changed Connelly regarding the populations of western Europe (my wife is a Connelly) Gene experts are saying that migrations & invasions into the British isle's have had negligible effects on the Brittons genetic make up. My phenotype's home ground is Dundee around the Tay 80% Doric 16% Ulster 2% Swedish 2% Norwegian. My ancestors have been fishing the north sea & been around the Tay since time immemorial. One of them it's possible may have been there in the Bronze or Iron age. Somewhere down the line you and I will have an ancestor or three in common.

they must of used a stone forge to build this, my friend recently had a breath taking adventure in burn o vat forest. she found a hidden cave with a dragons face on the outside of it. it must be a very spiritual place. if you are going take your wellies!

peat or some other fuel source and the high wind would create a furnace condition, was probably not done for any reason other than to clear debris and plant life around structure that would cause roots problems for structure or dampness while possibly providing a heat radiant effect to the stone which would help the interior dampness

The Phoenix supposedly caused the vitrification. The last cataclysmic hit for Europe was around 566 AD. We are told it was the Dark Age and nothing much was happening. The Phoenix has a cycle of 138 years × 4. ( The Great Pyramid ) The last hit was 1902, the next hit, is expected to be a major global cataclysm , due in 2040. The rock of the north side of the upper rampart of Dundee Law is exposed and vitrified, as was a small section of the Lower rampart. Unfortunately, the council decided to make it 'pretty' for tourists and joggers, and have ruined the natural landscape and atmosphere.
The trajectory of the Phoenix is North to South. Apparently, it always comes in from the North.

What is the phoenix? You mean the mythical bird? Like in Harry Potter? Are you straight up schizophrenic?
