That style of clip/ “carabiner” is guaranteed to unhook from things, and tangle up with other things. Why on earth some companies keep trying to sell us on them is beyond me, except for making products cheap & unreliable.
A knife and climbing gear don’t play well together. Yes you should have one, but it is beater to have something enclosed with the ability to lock closed. Petzl made a nice one where you could thread a carabiner through the hinge but I never really carried it. I used a simple one inch Gerber with a nylon body on a keeper cord. I carried this along with my chalk bag so it was no where near ropes, slings or protection.
I think for large handle to smaller blade, Spyderco has some of the better options. The finger choils obviously help on some models, but their sub 3-inch knives typically have full grips compared to almost any other brand. Other options I think would be cleaver knives like the Kizer Sheepdog. Obviously a different take on your question, but you get a girthy handle for shorter sharpened edge with cleaver knives.
Kernmantel climbing rope, and tubular climb spec webbing is best cut with serrated edges. Then hot knifed to control fraying on the ends of the rope/webbing. Knives that we "climbers" use are typically kept at a safe distance from webbing and ropes as it is extremely easy to cut when they are under tension. The best climbing knives for climbing are made by Petzl or by Kong.
Love the Protech Half-Breed - great example of a knife with a larger handle to the blade length - hope more companies do more of that-especially for Auto knives
Thanks for this, Aaron. I passed on one of these a couple weeks ago, in part because I hadn't thought about it as an outdoor tool Clipping it to the shoulder strap of a backpack on a day hike makes WAY more sense.
Actually Aus8 and Nitro V are comparable alloys. AUS8 has more vanadium and silicon. BUT like all steels it comes down to the heat treat and edge geometry.
check out the eafengrow EF11. Got it today, a lot more knife than i expected for $12. Not sure what I'll use it for. Fidget toy in D2. Nice to see premium steels in value CIVIVI. Impressive little knife.

I found that out with early Nite Ize key biner clip, lost some important keys. They come right off easy with the right twist in a pocket.
personally, I'd put it on a key chain, but if im going to carry a tool on a carabiner, I'd rather have a LM signal or skeletool.

This Civivi is a novelty knife. For 60 bucks it's available at a truck stop near you.
I’ve definitely donated my fair share of knives to the mountain God’s...and water, rock and sand God’s...lol
I have a Kershaw that has a carabiner. It does not feel sturdy and I do not trust it. I do keep a skeletool clipped to a belt loop.

I agree ,handles need to be a little longer!

biners make great kit knives.
It's a Lambsfoot blade. #knifechatswithtobias
Not completely sold on this one. Keychain worthy of course. Thanx
It's definitely unique, for sure.
Doesn’t shut well. Pass
Has Civivi (or their many CCP compatriots) ever heard of some decent belly on a blade? Must EVERYthing be sheepsfoot?
