TPiR 5/7/10: Deborah and Andrea's Historical Cover Up and Incredible Day...

  • In case you didn't catch on, this was Mother's Day II. Should be the last couples show this season.
    -I'm hearing that today's Cover Up had never happened before the way it happened. (Not surprising once you see it :D)
    -Punch-a-Bunch was second and another $5000 was won on the first punch, and no other odd painful other punches. Sweet...
    -Overall 4/6 games were won, including Any Number on its new set, with Punchy construing a big bailout as well. Couples shows are 13-5 this season w/ the Punchy bailout.
    ...................................................................
    ...................................................................
    -Today's WSD was at least our 5th of the season, and I'm thinking it was our 6th actually. Still only 1 DSW.
    -In case it wasn't clear in Cover Up - not only is the maximum 5 chances rare, but each number right went in order right down the line.

    Five turns is the max in Cover Up and the least amount of numbers that can remain on the board is five. However, one playing (on 4/25/97) showed such a great strategy that the contestant go the last two numbers or the last number by default.

    Gotta say, I wouldn't have been close on that Mazda Miata. I would have maybe guessed 25k. and I'm not that bad with guessing prices of vehicles but no Mazda is worth nearly 40k.

    Textbook way to progress in cover up. Increment your guesses so you always get one correct number, giving you as many shots as possible at the last one.

    • @jeopardy60611
      @jeopardy60611 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, those close overbids are frustrating. I think they always have the rule that you have to get the price "without going over" in the one-bid round to eliminate the possibility of a tie, but I don't see why they have that rule in the Showcases, as they are each bidding on a separate set of prizes. If there is a tie, as Bob Barker pointed out once that I can remember, both players will win their own Showcase.

    I remember a "Cover Up" where the woman kept getting all numbers right and on the next to the last chance, she had the fifth number right and the fourth number wrong. Since she had at least one right (the fifth number), she kept on playing. There was only one number left (the fourth number). Drew told her to insert the card down in the playing field and that she had won a car. Now that was the BEST Cover Up ever!

    The sensible way to play cover up is to use repeated numbers over and over, which I never see anyone do. Since only one is likely to be right, The player will keep getting extra chances.

    @mateo096: I pointed out an error in the descriptions of two Ford Tauruses that caused technical wins (the 3/10 and 4/15 episodes), and encouraged Kathy to move the full rules description to before the game because S&P could be called otherwise...thus, A&D won this car and were in the right position to win $1,000 on the Wheel.

  • @quadrupleplay

  • @quadrupleplay
    @quadrupleplay 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @mateo096: Would the two Tauruses have been won if I didn't tell Kathy their plugs were wrong? No.
    Would Cover Up have been won if Drew had not informed the contestants they had extra chances before committing to the first choice? Not likely, since they used all five chances.
    Would A&D have won $1,000 on the Wheel if they had lost Cover Up? Also not likely, since they would have spun from 95 and scored 90 + 20 at the same strength. They wouldn't even have gone to the Showcase...

    Surprisingly, I can claim personal responsibility for this win and this amazing playing (it was won left to right!) I was the one who made sure Drew explained the extra chances before the contestant commits to making their first choice.
    I've never been to a taping, but I'm now responsible for $77,994 worth of winnings (this and their $1K on the Wheel, plus both Taurus) and the greatest Cover Up playing ever. I think this proves the fans DO make a difference...
