Great lesson Kent! I always come back to your channel and learn so much!!!! Appreciate you & bestowing your wealth of knowledge on the music community!..All the best!!
Thank you so much for sharing, Kent! It became so much fun when you started playing around with that technique! I think I could even see the smile on your face from the fun you had! 😊
So glad to see content still coming from you Kent. I had an unwanted 2 year break from my piano but so good to be back! Thanks for this lesson, love getting my left hand moving.
I'm sold Maestro, thanks for making my retirement decision to buy an electric Piano a wonderful and heartfelt experience. Thanks and Respect from Port Coquitlam British Columbia Canada.
Now that's a good investment. Should consider his books maybe, I have them couple of years, still using them. Together with all his gems on TH-cam and his website, perfect lifelong tourney.
Thanks Ken , i was always useless at maths when i was a kid , but after 20 years of piano, ( am now 69) it becomes clear that jazz " improv " ( piano without music score ) is a game of numbers , so i think with this exercise it helps to think of the shapes as a NUMBER sequences so 1 ,7 3 going to 1,3 7 ,,, of course this ASSUMES 😂😂😂 you have spent MANY years learning how the numbers relate to the notes on the piano AND you know the circle of fourths without even having to THINK about it ,, big thanks for helping us guys climb up this very challenging and very hi jazz mountain.
WOW!!!, love this exercise. don't like playing left hand alone but can't improv, so just made something up for the right hand, 5431 (so, fa, mi, do) with some swing, then the 1 becomes the 5 for the next chord, then up an octave, repeat, repeat repeat. here's another one I like, 5679, and in the next chord the 5 becomes the 2 so stay on that note (ie don't move your right hand) and play 2345. hope that makes sense, love playing around with it !!!
@@KentHewittpiano88 HI Kent ! i come back on this exercise, it will help me i think for "Moaning" !I guess it is never to late to tell you what's going on!
Hey Kent! Thank you for doing what you do. I may not watch you as much as I should. Maybe once or twice here and there and usually because I have a technique playing problem. But it's always your videos I click on, because you're always there with a solution. Never stop!!!! I need you!!! Haha. Happy Halloween!
Great video Kent ,very useful ! When i was studying music at the university in PR nobody teach me that ,i'm working very hard to learn those things ,there was no Google, no TH-cam in those days !
I’ve finally drilled my rootless voicings in common progressions until I got those down and was thinking about what to tackle next. These spread voicings seem like a good choice.
Hi Kent , great content ,as always. On all your new videos with reference to your appendix, it would be really useful to cross reference the Appendix and page number to find the two things, video and place in the book. Keep swinging! Rick
hi Kent i am recently studing My Romance trying to use the Dim accord and making it independant in the four mediant options so A7 going to Dm Fm Ab minor or Bminor of course seen as C7 when going to Fminor but I remeber that A7 Fminor or in Blue Bossa E7 to Cminor is a situation that exists in the Literature? where?? in Along Came Betty is E7 going to Cmi7 I remeber that such a case is also seen as Phrygian Dominant but nit so often used I believe Herbie Hancock came up with this one....
I always thought you were a dinosaur. I always thought you were a dinosaur. I see your technology has really gone up still waiting for that fakebook with your voice in an arrangement along with everybody else long time no see.
