Whine mod test on 2018 LGX Supercharged V6 Camaro. (Eaton 1.7L Supercharger)

  • I had to figure out the kinks that were going on with my Foster S/C Whine Mod kit. Turns out the tube was crushed against the airbox and preventing proper resonance and impeller pulses to pass through.
    I may have a tiny supercharger, but it's still making power!
    This set up is an E-Force 1.7L Supercharger, upgraded to a 3.25" pully making 8lbs of boost. (Stock is equipped 3.50" pully 6lbs of boost)
    Also I know I sound like an idiot. Excuse me, I don't make videos often enough

    So I saw in the comments you have the 3.25 pulley instead and I was wondering if that’s the only thing you need to run more psi? Also how much whp you think it is with the edelbrock supercharger and the 3.25 pulley everything else stock

      If you get a really conservative tune, don't change anything else, and just put the supercharger + the 8psi pully, you're going to be in the 350~WHP(4th gear pull on the A8 trans) ballpark. You can push for more, but you may be risking spark knock which could lead to failure under hard loads.
      The only way to build more PSI is to spin the supercharger faster, so you have smaller pully's to do that. Every .25 of an inch is about 2PSI more pressure.
      I have gotten cattless downpipes since this video, and with just that change, plus a tune adjustment I picked up over 30WHP. I'm sitting at about 400 right now, and close to 500 at the crank, and my tune is far from spicy.

      @@v6cuhhmaro419 I've dyno'd my car, and I was at 383WHP in 4th, so that translates to about 395 at a 1:1(6th gear) pull.
      Stock pully? Expect like 330-340 depending on who tunes your car. 350~ on 8psi if you don't change the stock cats, they're a huge restriction. You can obviously ask the tuner for more power, but you start to run the risk of your EGT's getting too hot and causing detonation, that's bad.

    Was wondering if you still have the cylinder deactivation feature? Also what are you MPG numbers looking like? I have the same car just not supercharger and am curious

      So, you lose the cylinder deactivation, first off. However, the S/C has a bypass valve on it that is operated via vacuum. If I was consistently gentle on the throttle (Which when you have a whine mod and love feeling the pull and hearing it cry) I could easily hit 22.5-23+MPG still.
      I'm normally closer to 20 cause...I like getting on it.

      It should, no problem. You should ask a local mechanic/speed shop first to be sure, but the kit wouldn't change, just the angle of everything, but again, that shouldn't matter.

      It’s a great kit very easy to install nothing to hard I would agree that the Edelbrock tune is very conservative I think they run it to lean for emission it may be worth it to have someone tune it but find a good tuner and ask them to keep the engine as safe as possible if you go to aggressive you can damage the engine, sometimes I get hesitation I think am gonna have someone tune mine to smooth it out

    Hey man. I’m running same supercharger but I want that pulley and Im actually running the EdelBrock tune because it was on sale at the time. I’m planning on getting it retuned soon because it runs real rich and actually burned out the OE cats so I have exhaust to repair lol. I was curious though, what downpipes do you have and what belt are you running with the newer pulley?

      I just have a normal 6 rib belt, I forgot the length but if you call up Summit racing they might be able to help, worst case your local shop can figure that out.
      It's a 3.25" pully for 2 more pounds of boost, and they are "American Racing Headers Cattless down pipes" You might have to check a few stores cause not all of them offer the no cats option.

      @@Z51MAELSTROM thanks for that info. Helps a lot and I can’t wait to get this thing tuned professionally after those mods. I can attest that the tune from edelbrock is terrible. If anyone needed to hear it, I will tell you. The tune has so many issues. Running rich(17mpg as a side effect and cats burned up and clogged at one point), stuttering, random misfires.... take it from me, the supercharger is great but the tune is terrible.
      Side question, have you looked into changing out your differential with the diff from the manual LT’s??

      @@modern4ssassin272 I have but sourcing either a 4Cyl manual, or a LT manual rear end isn't easy where I live. It would give you posi and a bigger rear gear for more off the line action, but unless you're dig racing or proper drag racing it doesn't make a huge difference. For 40-60 rolls the 8A rear gear is plenty.

      Cause it's true. A 1.7L S/C is small compared to the 2-3L+ range ones that are typically used and installed.

    I was wondering can you link and show where you got the “whine mod kit from” I had a V6 Camaro and got rid of it in search of something with better power but now I’m just think it would be cool to supercharge it

      I warn you now that I no longer own the camaro. It's not worth it. There aren't enough supporting mods for the supercharger once you do it. If you wanna break 400WHP safely, a water-meth kit is more or less mandatory.
      The LGX has no headers, so you can't do a header job. There are no cam kits, and supposedly only one person makes pistons and rods for it on instagram or twitter. It's outrageously priced as well. No heads either. If you're happy to do stock boost and just have a little extra kick sure. It's cool. If you want to actually seek power and speed, buy an SS or anything else with a V8.

      @@IncitableStock boost means, the supercharger kit comes with a pulley that produces 6PSI of boost. A smaller pulley means more boost.
      And no, you need the supercharger, that produces the whine. One requires the other. Without a supercharger you have no supercharger whine to pump into the cabin.

      Yes, that's exactly why I installed it. My car went from basically zero ability to hear the whine, to what you hear. You can even hear it with the windows down. It's not constant or obnoxious.

      You can get it from Edelbrock if it's in stock, but I got mine from Summitracing as they had them in stock at the time. You just need a "3.25 inch 6-rib pully for edelborck supercharger"

      @@lethal_chevy5442 A CAI makes...basically no difference at all. Even in a forced induction set up, unless you are running a bigger throttle body, it won't really help with performance.
      You might get more noise with the whine mod, and maybe both in-cabin, and outside? But personally I just want the inside noise, so I am a 100% sleeper. I want a 5.0 to bully me and then get slammed. I want an SS or 392 scatpack to bully me and get shit on. If they hear the whine they gonna know something is up.

      I'm not sure if the smaller pully would make that much of a different, though the supercharger is now spinning faster.
      You need to go to Foster, and buy this kit. I have the stock Airbox, and installed this with their directions, and got the results you see.

      King Orthocone I know from experience the smaller the pulley the more wine you will get I am running the same pulley your running right now am debating on going with a 3 inch pulley it should put it around 10 pounds of boost but I don’t want to go to crazy tho

      @@kj3313 To be honest, your tuner won't tell you to do the 10lb+ pulley, unless you're willing to do E85 and other means of cooling. That or a WaterMeth injection. If you don't, and you are on 93 pump gas on a 10lb pulley you seriously run the risk of Spark Knock, or melting a piston ring, your EGT's will skyrocket.
      If you don't give a shit, send it and make some videos. Let me know the long term. My tuner won't let me run that pulley unless I swap to Water Meth injection, and I don't wanna do that. I also have a 2.75 for 12lbs but that's for later.

      That is entirely up to how far you want to push it. 3.00" gets you to 10 PSI and at that point you better start considering a water-meth mix unless you've upgraded the heads, pistons and rods. That is at least what my tuner suggested for reliability. You can also go a step, even further beyond to a 2.75" for 12psi, or a 2.67 for 13lbs, but the S/C is really only rated up to around 10. It could take 12 though.

      Went from 335 crank to 485 crank for about 7k for everything done. Could have been a little cheaper had I done all of it all at once.

    I understand that this engine fails to make the power of the 3.6 Pentastar V6 with the Vortec Ripp Kit. They typically make about 440 to the tires at lower boost levels.

      Yes they are very different engines, and while the 3.6L from chevy is a very efficient and great design for what it gives stock. It's about as terrible a design as is physically possible for boosting.

      Stock, the car felt nice. The kit from Edelbrock is a really good value, however I highly suggest you buy it WITHOUT the tune, as that's $500 extra.
      I went from like 260WHP -> 350 with the blower, and tune. It made a significant difference and for the $5k pricetag, plus 1k install, it's nice. However, if you're going to do it. Learn from my mistakes.
      1) Buy it without the tune, and you're already ahead.
      2) Also buy a 3.25"(6 rib competition) pully, so you go from 6PSI to 8PSI.
      3) Buy "American Racing Headers" CATLESS, downpipes for the LGX V6. (2016-2020+). They're pretty cheap, and not only give you a more aggressive tone, they freed up my IAT's allowing my shop to add timing. This was a MAJOR improvement. I got every bit of 30WHP for just doing that. I still have the stock NPP dual-mode exhaust from the secondary cats back.
      Those 3 things, you'll get about 383WHP, where I am at now, which is well into LT1 territory. If you have 93(I only have 92) you'll be a little healthier, and depending on how aggressive you want to go with the tune, you can get more. My tune is very conservative and fat, cause my shop knows it's a daily.

      @@thein1990 That's to the crank. It's more like 460 crank, but there is what is called "drivetrain loss." When I say "WHP" that means what I'm actually putting down to the wheels. Wheel Horsepower.
      An LT1 puts down about 360-380 to the wheels, depending in a verity of factors. So my 383WHP is about 480 crank Horsepower due to my calculated drivetrain loss.

      @@rockfire9799 It's hard to say the real number for 2 reasons. I need better tires as with the summer only I spin really bad in first gear. Secondly I haven't been able to test it due to rain since I added the downpipes and better tune.
      In a realist scenario? 4.6 - 4.7sec is a good estimate judging by what I'm getting with wheel spin.

      Probably not, you'd need to check Edelbrock's website, I believe Chevy stopped using the LFX in 2016 and newer Camaro's, and Edelbrock's kit is for 2016+ Camaro's.
      You'd probably have to go with a centrifugal supercharger(procharger, vortec, paxton etc) or turbo kit.
