But you can't really make a beginners guide where you say "hey, look in the controls and figure it all out from there" as the one guy that misses something there, is exactly what you want to cater for in a beginners guide.

You can try it, but you should seriously put some time into the game first to figure out how it plays andhow the general ballistics are and stuff.
Took me about 10-15 hours to get really comfortable with the guns.
Honestly sniping is tame rather than first time flyers. Seriously if you buy this game. And got on a multiplayer server and get a chance to fly like 5+ guys dont. You will crash and burn like everyone first does.

Basic loadout that EVERYONE should have, regardless of position (aka Sniper, Medic, Rifleman), you need medkits to heal yourself or someone else when in trouble, you NEED spare ammo, preferably a bit of it, you need frag grenades, and if you're using an assault rifle, an RCO scope is a necessity as well. It offers the best variability between close/medium, and limited-long range. It's a bad idea to not take a helmet, as helmets while offering weak protection will save your ass.

I suck at shooters. Played arma II, III, DayZ mod and standalone for about 1500 hours in total. basically still suck at it. But damn, the emersion that the Arma engine offers, I freaking love it.

You forgot one of the most common mistakes noobs make: Dressing in enemy uniforms/gear/camo.
If you're NATO, ffs, DON'T wear goddamn CSAT gear!
Yes, their gear has better armor, but at long range, you look like the enemy, especially if you're wearing their helmets and we're using thermal scopes. In thermal, when we see the iconic swooped back helmets CSAT wears, we open fire. You can run it if you want, but don't complain when you're being team killed left and right.
Another thing, red smoke is reserved for marking enemy positions. If you pop red smoke, expect CAS and armor to strafe the area. Again, if you're popping red smoke for concealment of friendlies, don't complain when your squad gets wiped out by 30mm cannon fire.
Also, if you're laser designating, for the love of God, keep that pointer away from friendlies!
Most of us pilots will verify our target by communicating with ground via TS, and if you aren't communicating with us, we wave off on the laser.
GBUs in Arma 3 are very much like the real deal in that they can level a city block and anyone unlucky enough to be in the area.
Communicate, communicate, communicate. I can't stress that enough.

Another thing: don’t shower the extraction point in smoke and complain when your pilot blows up by hitting a tree or lamppost, leaving your team injured and stranded

what i do with the magazines, is that i always leave 1 RED tracer magazine, so if im gonna carry 6 mags for example, i pick 5 regular and 1 red tracer, so at the moment i know im shooting and i dont tend to look much at my hud, i know im working out my last magazine, and i gotta use very carefully.

Don't feel bad, there are plenty of games that you can play without 6 monts of basic training. My friends and I got Arma 3, but we wanted to play, not watch endless videos.

Its been three years but if you still havent played ARMA 3 or any realistic military shooters then I wanna say for anybody that feels like its too intimidating-
It isin't that intimidating. A game will give you your own loadout and the game has pretty basic controls from any other first person shooter.
All thats required is a basic knowledge of FPS, equip the rifleman in the respawn screen, then follow orders. Its that simple c:
Shoots half magazin to one guy moving in front of him, misses all the shots.
Shoots to a guy standing 1 km away... he kills him with one shot.
Well if he was standing still.
Bullets aren't just laserbeams in this game, nor are they in real life. I'd say it's more difficult to hit a moving target at 100 feet than it is to hit a stationary target at 1000 feet away.
David Bailey I spraying at a running AI and it took like 1/3 mag to kill him, the only way to miss someone that close is when you hip-firing because the gun is on the right side
@@justnoob8141 whereas if he was a kilometer away, you would probably need only 2-3 shots to take him down. 1 ranging shot, and then two more depending on caliber of the weapon.
Moving targets are difficult to hit in arma 3 don't act like they aren't because you are lying

@@yws152 Yep, It's perfect. Make sure your GPU is good. I have an i7 8750h with za glorious gtx 1050 ti and 12 GB ram. Runs game perfectly on High. Just makes sure run 1280x720 or 1366x768 res and restart your Pc after the first launch gets all the settings you want. It's awesome. I recommend standard settings for best FPS!
@@e47kz Arma is GPU and CPU reliant. You'll need a good cpu and gpu to run anything above 20 fps.

There is also a Steam Workshop mod called "Quick and Fun Projectile Tracing!", which I've found to be invaluable when learning the weapon handling in the game! Especially the penetration capabilities with different weapons is easy to test in this environment.
Also, if you want to learn Arma 3 and have an actual mission, check out Pilgrimage (in Steam Workshop)! This mission is hands-down the best custom single player mission I've ever played in any game! It combines storytelling to freeform sandbox to pseudo-procedural gameplay, all with its own goals and mechanisms. It's a great way to explore the whole Altis map while simultaneously playing the game. Gear is random, so usually you end up having to defend yourself with all kinds of available tools, making it a great learning tool. Highly recommended! =)

Is the ping meant to be higher to be better or lower?

Less ping pretty much says it's not taking much to talk to server (in real time), i think the value for ping is in milliseconds, 1000 milliseconds is 1 second.

I have an EVGA GTX 1070 FTW, and an AMD FX-8350, game runs wonderful for me. Over 60 FPS i'd say 80% of the time. Haven't Overclocked the chip either but i'm sure it would improve the gameplay.

Just a tips to commenting section 2:50 using Task, or even Squad command, the mouse can't make you turn your body, but by default, using Shift+Q make you rotate/look Left, and Shift+E rotate/look Right.
I'm trying to learn a lot about ARMA and my dream is to create a group of players who really takes time to play arma with all the default and basics aspect to reach an elite and make a huge hit against Noobs in no mods public servers.
I like your experiences with the IA too. Playing with an against ARMA AI is a science too.

44:00 On this showcase infantery mission, a tip to get a better optic is to get it from the injured point man's weapon just after the first fight. He was scouting, so normally if the mission hasn't been updated, he would have a MRCO optic ( x2/x4 or something )
And, IA is really a good, very good training solution, if you can beat IA ( vanilla ), you can learn a lot how to take advantage against player, even then get an aptitude to XRAY instinctly player... really... Playing with IA, can be really hard and frustrating, but when we get it, it feels like be like the best players in the world :D

In a lot of other games suppressors reduce range/accuracy/damage for balancing purposes, but in Arma they actually increase muzzle velocity by 5%, due to them effectively extending the barrel. There is no reason that I know of to not use a suppressor.
I saw this video years ago when I first bought Arma 3 and now I have over 1k hours and I´m having a fantastic time in a Warhammer 40k Cadian Unit.
It´s funny that I got introduced to wh40k through the unit and then you started making videos about wh40k.

I realize the video is old, but for anyone watching. The campaign normally gives you single 40mm grenades. The 3gl has the option to take 3 round magazines of 40mm grenade instead of the single grenades. Not sure if he ever realized, but he took 3 magazines of 40mm smoke. So he actually has 9 smoke grenades for the 40mm under-barrel launcher, not 3. He only took six HE grenades in two magazines in comparision.
48:28 I've never got any live feed :) On that Infantry showcase. The balance has changed massively since the damage modeling (hitboxes) improvement work (?). In 2015 I was getting ripped to shreds along with my squad mates. And yes, I do adjust for my skill improvement. Rule number zero for that showcase and the whole ArmA from this point forwards. HARD COVER! And stick your head only (ONLY!) as much as to clear the muzzle of your rifle over that god damn rock. To do this you need to learn all of the stance controls. Including Ctrl+W and Ctrl+S.

Good video, but correct me if I'm wrong, I thought the mission with the Mortar Spotters gives you a UAV darter to spot them and Charlie lights them up. Or is it just the Campaign one?

So people are giving Luetin here shit for accuracy, and at the same time writing just fundamentally untrue things in the comments about "realism" and ballistics.
Games... exaggerate "long range " ballistics, for what I guess are balancing issues. A round fired from most 5.56 rifles travels little over 1KM per second. That means that if you engage a target at 300m it takes 0.2 Seconds until your round reaches it's target. You aren't compensating for shit at those ranges, and .2 seconds is basically instantaneous from a humans perspective.
Since we are on the topic of realism in these comments... 300meters is pretty standard engagement distance for modern military rifles, things like the AK or the AR platform, and everything in between are Assault RIFLES(tho to be fair "Assault Rifle" is a media and gaming term, most militaries simply call them rifles or Automatic RIFLES) . These weapons are terrifyingly accurate, you wouldn't believe how easy to handle and fire they are(it's a long standing pre requisite for military equipment, it needs to be idiot proof). Games tend to gloss over the RIFLE part of these weapons, I'd recommend you go to a range and test it out, most ranges will rent you a rifle you can fire there(You will be amazed at how easy, and how accurate they are to handle). We always joked (and im sure it's common in other countries) that Marksmanship ribbons, accolades/certifications are just proof that you aren't retarded :D .
And the point about hitting moving targets at X/Y/Z Distances is also a rather mute point since you are probably never going to have firefights at those ranges, where you are consistently engaging a lot of targets that are moving around in plain view. I can theoretically imagine scenarios where you are moving through urban areas rapidly(Although even that is not nearly as fast as games and movies depict it) or through forested/mountain areas with concealment instead of cover, where you would rapidly engage and keep moving... in both scenarios you are so thoroughly fucked and in danger that the finer points of ballistics are the last thing on your mind.

This seems quite useful. It would be cool to create training all the way through marine corp sniper school. A basic resource would be the public Field Manual files and books like Plaster's "Ultimate Sniper"

I've got a question. Firstly, great video. Thorough and enjoyable. And the artillery strike near the end made me laugh. 😂. My question is though, why does the game equip you with a short sight like that reflex sight when all engagements are at range? Seems counter productive. You're not raiding an off shore ship or a urban environment. Seems weird.

Have they added the M86 Pursuit Deterrent Munition? It has 7 tripwires and used to deter enemy pursuing sniper teams. They are 1LB and deployed as hand or as ADAM. I suppose you can use claymores, but they require time to set up.
3000 hours here. If you hear “snap, crackle, or pop” hit the fucking dirt. Remember the difference between cover and concealment. Stay by your squad leader and medic. You are vulnerable. If you are outnumbered, pop smoke and pull back. And remember, get used to the 15 different stances. Prone, crouch, and stand won’t cut it. And finally, remember, don’t fucking sprint everywhere. If you’re not in danger of combat, walk. The more you carry and the more you run, the more you shake around when you aim, so take frequent breaks. And remember, it’s usually those who fire first who win an engagement. Try to be the first to shoot, but not in a call of duty twitch shooter way. Move methodically, position yourself well, have a good stand-off distance, and fire when you’re sure you can kill your targets. And leave the AFVs and aircraft to those who know how to use it. If you wanna use these vics use them in editor and get good with them before you try and operate one, much less command one
