I would imagine that he has to use a reference in order to get that detailed. Most artist are more creative then realistic. He appears to be only realist. I would love to see his work from a creative and realistic perspective other then always replicating a model but either way his talent is exceptional.

There was a cartoon in Poland in the mid 60's to mid 70's of last century called "The Enchanted Pencil". It was about a boy who owned a special pencil. Everything the pencil had drawn, became alive.
