65% is absurd. Notice how Mark congratulated Lori and not the business owner?
The guy clearly just wants the money. Not to scale his own business. Do the math on 10 Million x 35% .. And he literally don’t have to do a thing. That man hit the jackpot.
That’s what happens when you’re desperate. This guy clearly doesn’t value himself as high as he should.
It’s business. It wasn’t worth it for Lori to invest 150k for 15% because she knows her platform is what makes this sell. The idea is genius, but Lori is the connection that turns this product into cash.
These have done 20 million in sales on QVC. She takes 13, he takes 7 (rough numbers obviously). There’s a lot more to running a business than creating a product and selling, and there’s so many times people fail or make bad moves out of desperation. This was a very fair deal for him. To scale this on his own would have taken forever. He created the product, and while she was doing all the footwork he got to sit back with his hand out saying ‘money please’ as the checks rolled in.
Absurd in what way? they made 13$mil in sale in 3years since air date , company is now valued at 60$mil . he;s now a multi millionaire by just sitting on his couch

I would’ve said 250k for the 65%
I think I would have offered a 50/50 share of the company, emphasizing the fact that were partners and our equity should reflect that. Had she said a firm no to that I think I would have walked.
I always get mad at entrepreneurs when they get stingy with equity on this show but that 65% offer was.... greedy to say the least

I would’ve just said no and hoped that after being on the show I’d get more sales. These guys obviously help each other out and force the stress on the entrepreneurs so they make bad decisions
I think Mark was actually helping the guy out by staying in. It gave him more negotiation power. He should have asked Lori for 55% instead of 45%. Once the Entrepreneur wanted to hear what Mark would say, then gave Lori all the negotiation power to stay firm at 65%

Actually not really, the company is maybe worth 4 million total. If he owns 35%, that’s 1,400,000 if he’s lucky and we’re not counting other employees and fees and taxes and etc… he hardly made our like Lori promised.

@@TestAcc-sj7tt He would have become a millionaire without Lori. It's a great product and would have got a lot of traction after the episode aired. And would also have been advised to go digital. May have taken a while but the company would have been worth maybe half what it is now or more without Lori and he would have owned all of it. Lori was too greedy here.
After researching the net worth of ReadeREST, it has a valuation of 2.5 to 4 million USD. Turns out Lori got a good deal and at least tripled her $150,000 investment after all expenses, but I doubt the inventor made his million as she promised. If you have information to the contrary, please let me know.

This item isnt that great. People who wear glasses find that one of the biggest issues is having to remember and carry their glasses with them, or remember glasses wipes, or case, etc..., which is inconvenient and a pain in itself. This item would just be another accessory people with glasses have to remember . I think they will constantly forget it when walking out the door, and then it will be too much of a hassle always remembering it and they will eventually just let it collect dust. I personally wouldnt buy this item and I wear glasses.
I agree i wouldnt purchase myself but i can see for elderly people it can be beneficial to just leave attached to their clothing

@@jkbrown34568 This is for people who only need glasses for far-sighted or short-sited vision and prescription sunglasses. They can even be used for reading glasses.. There are a lot of those out there. This is not for the ones that need to use them all the time.

So many of these entrepreneurs are weak minded, you should never ask "would you" when you're negotiating, just make a counter offer. Starting with "would you consider?" always comes off as desperate and rarely gets a 'yes'.
I also wouldn't cave in to the idea that I have to answer before hearing other offers. I'd ask them the question whether they want to be in business with someone that doesn't listen to all offers when pitching a product? Potentially costing them both a better deal and money.

After watching so many episodes, 65% isn't really that bad compared as to when the entire company is bought out outright, kicking the proprietor to the curb.
Especially, when the only contribution by the proprietor is the invention of the original idea, whilst the rest will be taken care of by Lori. Henceforth, the proprietor simply has to sit back and watch the dough roll in.

Just like the OP said, a little bit of a lot is more than most of nothing. 3/5 of the biggest returns in Shark Tank history have been with Lori.
