    Hi all! I apologise that a few clips in this video were recorded in Stereo mode (rather than mono) so some sounds might only come through your left speaker.
    I got a new wireless mic and still learning!

    You are making complete sense to me, Sarah. As you were sitting at the beach and relating your thoughts it was as if you saw inside of me and brought it all out into the open to reveal so much beauty within.
    You also have a melancholy tone to your voice in this vlog that makes complete sense when one considers the changing of the seasons, the light, the landscape, and even the mystical change in our bodies that is taking place.
    As a woman in her 60s, I consider myself in the Autumn of my life. As the leaves falling from the trees, I find all of this change to be a metaphor for what has been happening in my life. I'm experiencing a season of great loss and a "shedding" of so many things that have been defining touchstones for me.
    Winter has become very beautiful for me over the last few years. While I live a life of confinement, I have embraced the joys of home and hearth. I'm learning to bring beauty inside my home in as many ways as possible and to slow down and enjoy it deeply.
    Warm cups of coffee and tea, a good 📚 book that inspires me, soft warm clothing touching my skin and keeping my nervous system regulated... embracing "wintering" and allowing it to do its healing work deep inside to prepare me for spring which will surely come...these are my encouragements for you!
    I don't know how much you enjoy decorating your home, but the more I love my home, the easier it is for me to be confined.
    Sending you my love ❤️😘🙏.

      Thank you so much for your kind words and encouragement. First of all you write beautifully and I really felt what you said. I am beginning to embrace the idea of using winter as a time to fully rest, and find beauty in the quiet nothingness. That is incredibly difficult for me...my brain is always a thousand steps ahead. So ultimately it's probably a really important lesson.

    Wolfie is a cinematographer, too. Wonderful camera work, Wolfie. I love knowing that Sarah is safer now that she is accompanied. I always worried that she would have a fall in some of the treacherous places she would venture. I guess it is my age and experience that causes me to think of these things, but they do happen. One of the things I always think about at this time of year is that when I start to truly notice how short the days seem it is only four weeks until the days start to get longer. And longer days become noticeable in the weeks after that. I think of November to January as the lazing in a comfy, warm bed time of year.

    I always love the beauty of your videos. My cousins are on the west coast of Ayr (where my ancestors, Paternal Grandparent's came from) before settling in America (Michigan.) They want me to come back next year as it has been almost 50 years since last there! I want to see your side of the country. I have a few big suggestions for you since you struggle with the dark times.
    (1)Have your Vitamin D levels checked and start taking vitamin D. In 2017, mine were so low I felt suicidal - I knew something was wrong. they were at 11 and they went them from 28 on up.
    (2) Get a happy lamp and use it every morning when you wake.
    (3) Still try to do physical activity or a walk outdoors (even around the block) to get some outdoor time.
    (4) Talk to your doctor about seasonal depression. It is very real.

    Re: biking in the cold - there are shoe covers you can get. I usually just get wool socks & I have a pair of Nike sneakers that were made for winter so they're pretty warm and water resistant. I use a buff that's basically like a balaclava- it will keep you REAL WARM. I tend to overheat easily so I find a circle/infinity scarf works best because I can layer it or unravel it or pull it down when I start to get hot. Def good gloves. I've also used hand/ feet warmers when mountain biking. Thermal layers. A wind jacket with a hood that fits over your helmet (rei brand used to have really nice ones) & jackets with double zippers (so you can halfway zip for ventilation) or armpit vents are really nice too. I really enjoy biking in the cold but not the wind so much ha.

    • @sarahinscotland
      @sarahinscotland  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'll look for shoe covers for sure. Toe warmers are a great idea. Why didn't I think of that! I struggle with anything over my face because my glasses instantly fog up and then I can't see :(

    Great video as always, I love seeing Scotland. Biking in the winter, I use a buff to cover my mouth and nose to avoid the cold air getting into my chest, light glove liner and thicker pair over hands and thicker wool socks. I've found keeping my core warm with a wind resistant vest under my jacket helps a lot. Once you start peddling/hiking, you warm up pretty quickly so peelable layers are always a plus for us outdoorsy folks.

    • @sarahinscotland
      @sarahinscotland  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's so hard to predict! I wear a lot of layers and either it's too much or too little, based on effort, wind, temperature. I guess it will come with experience.. I like your idea with the vest.
      For some reason my feet get really cold!

    Such beautiful filming! Since you have so much film and pictures, could you not find an artist’s picture library site that you could make a bit of income off of downloading some of your less personal footage? Or maybe a nature site?
    I went to art school in NYC, and back then in the Late 70s and early 80s we needed to find our sources at picture LIBRARIES through the NYC main library. They were often torn out pages of magazines & prints of all kinds, compiled in rows & rows of file cabinets by subject. What we had to go through back then to find sources for ourselves was way beyond anything young people today could imagine. And those resources were not even available except in the big cities! Imagine how difficult being a mixed media artist would be back then. With printers and everything else the computers have brought about. It’s a whole New World. Good luck!

    • @pixelfrenzy
      @pixelfrenzy 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Absolutely. Travelling to work every day, with almost no public transport in the area, when it's grey and raining and windy and cold and hardly even proper daylight some days is far less romantic than snowy landscapes. Counting the days until the Solstice when the daylight starts to grow again. There are good reasons why Yule, Saturnalia etc were always big celebrations here in Northern Europe.

    Thank you for this... Preparing (dreading?!) my first winter in Moray I needed to see a positive side to things, and yes the autumn colours have been spectacular. I lived in Asia for many years, very close to the equator, and the difference being above 57°N couldn't be more pronounced. October was so incredibly wet, with serious flooding in parts of NE Scotland, but up above the Cairngorms we are relatively sheltered I suppose. Not long to go now until the Solstice - hang in there!

      Something that really helped me last year was exercising regularly, a good workout at least twice a week with lots of gentle stuff between (yoga or stretching or exercise bands at home). It made a massive difference. I also did one or two trips to some epic places like west coast and Skye. Trips like that where you know there is snow make it exciting.

    Your photography is so inspiring!! I just LOVE how you consistently find beauty and joy in what is around you - from small branches to dramatic large landscapes. Your practice of appreciating things in the moment and consciously embracing the seasonal changes even with the challenges it can pose (hello seasonal affective disorder!) is the recipe for maintaining solid mental health, and just having a happy life in general 😊 Re: bike riding in winter - maybe look into some neoprene shoe covers. The only ones I’m familiar with go over bike-specific shoes but maybe they exist for normal footwear too?? Blocking the wind is primo as you generally warm yourself up with the effort of cycling, so having the right combo of wind blocking and then insulation that works for your particular body temp generation is the key to comfortable winter cycling, so it’s individual. And also realizing/accepting you just will be cold for the first ~10mins, and may have to shed/adjust layers on long uphills - neither of which is really that much hassle in the scheme of things. Same rules apply for gloves and pants with wind blocking. There are also balaclavas that cover your nose/cheeks/chin that go under helmets comfortably as well, but you have to embrace the hair squashing 😂. Also I know folks swear if you maintain your core warmth then your extremities will be fine but that’s never worked for me - I end up with sweaty torso and freezing toes/fingers. I go with lighter layers on my core and heavy insulation for extremities. All that is to say wear what works for you (except for wind blocking 😂 - that’s a solid rule for everyone!)

    My first visit here & most enjoyable, fabulous vision. I was born there & migrated as a child. Our fam is now hoping to return after 30yrs. The feeling you mentioned is familiar to sufferers of SAD, which is common to places which have insufficient daylight for optimum health, or in shift-workers & the NHS is familiar with it, my friend was prescribed light therapy & given a lamp that helped her absorb the correct therapeutic frequency & required hours of UV light at home. It's also common in Lupus sufferers who are photosensitive & can't go out in strong sunlight or for long periods without complications. This causes a Vit D deficiency - most ppl wouldn't be aware, but we have frequent blood tests to monitor these types of things. We're then prescribed high potency Vitamin D3 drops, (the normal vitamin pills usually aren't strong enough) which makes an unexpectedly positive difference to how you feel if affected ..About cycling, are you not wearing winter boots to keep feet warm? Hands, feet & head are the weak spots you need to worry extra about in winter imho.. Stay warm.

    • @sarahinscotland
      @sarahinscotland  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm wondering if I should get a different source of D3 as I do the pills 3000 iu. I'm getting my blood tested regularly for anemia so I'm going to ask them to check my D levels.
      I usually wear my flexible boots for cycling but they just aren't warm enough. My winter boots are WAY too cumbersome for riding. So my toes freeze. My face as well, since any type of facemask makes my glasses fog like crazy

      @joannecarroll5504 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@sarahinscotland My physician said that D3 is better absorbed with food. If they're liquid capsules, you could just prick them & have the same effect as taking the drops on bread.

    Oh Sara…. I woke up here in Texas this morning (with Covid hanging on 😏) and you made my Sunday. I am sharing this video with my daughter who lives in Los Angeles but studied Art History in Rome and toured Ireland but not Scotland and I’m sure she will love this. Fall is her favorite time of year as it is mine as well. I will soon be one of your Patreons. Love these videos. Love nature….absolutely TERRIFIED of spiders and I live for art and enjoy seeing your art journeys. Take care Sara and enjoy finding your special moments. 😘. PJ

    Hi Sarah what a lovely video. Im totally with you in your thoughts. I love the Autumn, right now it seems so intense and yes, before you know it Winter is here. I love Winter too. We are truly lucky to live in such a wonderful country. Ive not heard of the ballooning of spiders, will check it out. I did have a chuckle seeing Woolfie batting the webs and spiders, l hope they didnt ger caught up in his beard lol 😉 Thank you for sharing your thoughts and talent .......Alioban 😊 .......ps..please can l ask about your rucksack. I've started to work plein air and need a waterproof bag. I've looked at so many and they are not quite right. Yours looks so comfy, I'm wondering what make it is, and does it hold up to our weather ? Thank you ❤

    Sarah, do you have any calendars of Scotland for sale? With your photography passion Id love to see what a Sarah in Scotland 12 month wall calender would look like 🥰 just an idea for those 10k photos 😂 Great video. ❤

      I make calendars for me family each year (I just order a few). The problem with making calendars to sell on my shop is there will ALWAYS be too many that don't sell, and it's such a waste because they are only good for one year. I guess I could try making a very small batch to sell...hmm

    • @Pixieshade
      @Pixieshade 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@sarahinscotland I can understand that, dont wont to create waste. Maybe a pre-oder sale like your for brushes. Anyway, thanks for the reply. I fall more in love with Scotland with blog.

    Oh man, the scenery is just so stunning and you did a brilliant job of emphasizing the beauty with your choice of music (you always do, but this vlog was *chef's kiss*).
    It's funny, I just came across a reel featuring a Dr. Chatterjee (I don't know who he is outside this reel, lol) and he was talking about the fractals found in nature and how simply by observing them (staring at a tree, admiring a flower, contemplating the waves crashing ashore, etc), outside or via pictures, you can access the healing energy of these fractals (this is very paraphrased, of course). I know from watching your videos and getting to enjoy the forests, mountains, ocean/waves and waterfalls, they always seems to calm my nervous system when anxiety is getting the better of me, so maybe there's some truth to what he's saying. Perhaps on the hardest days of winter, you can review some of that footage you mentioned to keep nature close without having to haul on your woolies and brave the icy winds (or, no doubt, in a hard-to-come-by spare moment, you could always compile some of that footage for an ASMR video and/or pair it with some suitable music and share that when the mood strikes ;) ). Enjoy the last few weeks of fall! Hopefully it doesn't get too cold.

      I've read a little about fractals and it's so interesting!
      I do look through my photos and videos over the winter. So they still have a lot of value!

    Random question- does Scotland have seashells? The beaches you walk on always look so clean with no debris.

    • @sarahinscotland
      @sarahinscotland  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      TONS of seashells. For the most part they are smaller.
      But also tons of litter too, in certain areas. Most of our litter is fishing related.
