Lenny had a better feel for Mahler than any other conductor, IMO. In the fourth movement, with contralto, "What Man Tells Me", the horns do a fine job in this performance. However, in the Chicago Symphony/Levine recording with Dale Clevenger on first horn, this 4th movement is unbeatable.
@@pavlelazarevic3270 Why 1973? Why not starting from 1966 (The year Bernstein started conducting for VF) ? But if this was a TV concert, it should be in September 1975.
It is a picture of Mahlers soul and fellings at the time he composed. All his sinfonies are expressions. with wide ranges . But when you feel other views in this music it‘s right and Wonderfull
This was recorded by Unitel in 1972 at the Golden Hall of the Musikverein. It is an experience to attend a concert for the excellent acoustics, was there last September for Mahler's 4th, Daniel Harding, conducting.
Ich liebe Mahler.
❤
Ich liebe auch Mahler ❤
- Ich liebe auch Mahler-
(Danke !).
I Love the sound of First Horn Roland Berger
The horns and strings are beautiful. Then there's Ludwig.....the whole performance is just immaculate. Bernstein's finest hour (and three quarters)?
OMG, yes. The horns here are really in control of SO many timbres. TRUE talent!!
Heaven sounds like this.
Krefeld is in Germany
Perfeito. Simplesmente perfeito.

Horn Probespielstelle: 15:30
I wish it had a better audio quality.
It is old recording. Like 1973 or later

1972.
@@343kaka If that's right then it should be; Bruno Walter Memorial Concert at Musikverein, Golden Hall, Vienna, Austria (Monday, 24 April 1972)
Does anyone know who is the stunning trombone soloist?
Yes. His name is Rudolf Josel
@@michaelkreuter4050 Wow. Thanks a lot!

No matter what a piece oc music! I love to listen to maestro Bernstein. Postumt: Thank you!
Absolutely the best performance!! 👍👍👍
I'm the big fan of Bernstein. But i love also Abbado's performance.
@@kiankooshesh4792 Abbado is a bit cold....
That's right!!! The Bernstein's idea is unique...
This and Lenny’s New York version onSony.
I like so much the performance by Carlo Maria Giulini, with Chicago Symphony Orchestra...
Prefer his second recording with the NYP on DG, but this is fantastic.

¡Esos cornos maravillosos! Ocho tocando a la vez.
Bravo Maestro, Bravo
Chicago/Levine was my favorite 3rd for years. (Because i had studied it). But this was sublime.
I. don't want to see Lenny in the opening.. I want to see 8 horns. Mr. Ego.
Maestro Ego to you. 😂
Agreed
Herbert Van Karajan did the same thing in his videos of him conducting the Berlin Philharmonic. Herbert definitely had a Big Ego

Amazing!
3d symphony. A world of grief and mystery
Two audio and one video recording. All 3 a masterclass in Mahler conducting. No-one does Mahler 3 any better and that includes Abbado.
A truly lively interpretation, I agree
Es precios la Philarmonie Orchestra of Vienna , amb Mahler ❤
Beautiful
MARAVILHOSO ❤

Perfetto!!!
Does anyone know in what year this performance took place?
i believe 1972
Not a single woman in the orchestra! Glad we've moved on from that
let them learn to play well😂
Was a rule in that orchestra also quite racist since it's just after nazi times
All amazing musicians tho and I think that is what really counts
Sehr unwürdig. Es sollte schnellstens gelöscht werden. Einfach abgrundtief dumm.

Lenny owns this work. Period !
