Uganda's Street Food: Local authorities concerned about public health risks

  • In Uganda, like other developing countries street food vending is popular and generates income to many households. While the street markets mean opportunities for people who bring their goods to a reliable city market, authorities say the public is continuously exposed to risks and concerns. CGTN's Michael Baleke talked to some street vendors and consumers.

Ugandans' food hygiene is of high standard
Anyone worried should only question their own personal hand hygiene.
In any case scenario Ugandans know they wash fruits and vegetables before eating.
They also cook and serve food under the most strict hygiene I have ever witnessed when serving customers
I have no doubt in their personal standards

Hi everyone to be honest in this video a Ugandans know how grow food rather than Kenyans people because they all buy the goods in Uganda for less money then go back to Kenya and sale it for more money Kenyan’s need to appreciate it all that Ugandan’s do for them and I disliked when people are so being so judgmental to Ugandan’s people at least they aren’t that lazy to woke in the early morning to go to the gardens to grow up what you Kenyan’s are selling now in your country Ugandan’s are hard working people and they don’t relied on the government shit they relied on themselves so Kenyan’s get life and stop being so judgmental to your damn neighbour ✌🏾🤟🏾🇨🇦😘🇺🇬😍💕💕💕💕

Madam Kamya, let this be your responsibility to build a clean city. It is so simple to design tables where these food sellers can put their food on. I know many Ugandans have gotten sick from buying food from the floor. Something has got to be done. It is a shame to Uganda. Now M7 is giving free masks to Ugandans, why can't he talk about good hygiene in supermarkets. Shame upon Ugandans who accept these poor hygiene supermarkets.

Indeed there is a lot of congenstion and looks untidy and messy making our capital look unpleasant. Thank you honarable Betty Kamya , it's good you are in awareness of the pros and cons of distraction as in terms of mobility, within the city as a result of those markets. In future, you should plan to shift: the city taxi parks, owino market, Nakasero market and everything that looks like it and in its place put flower gardens, say tulips, might have a tremendous effect or else it will be a continuous song.

Across the whole of sub saharan Africa I notice people mostly sell vegetable and fruit from the floor/ground. Selling any edible produce from ground level is a very poor standard of hygiene. It really is not hard to make a table from which to sell produce. What is really the problem with Africa?
