    Here is the next part in my Creating A Great Tone series for our Line 6 Helix. Over the past while, I have had many questions about how I utilize the Helix Global Eq. I figured it was about time I address this topic as it seems there is some confusion about the intended purpose of that particular function. I hope this video helps to answer how I use it and when I don't use it. Thanks so much for watching and please subscribe to my channel if you are so inclined...

    great video Jason. Im sure this has been the source of many folks' problem out there and they didnt realize what they were actually doing. Its these kind of tid bits/nuggests of wisdown that are so helpful to the entire L6/Helix community and why you deserve not just 10k subs but 10x that amount. keep it up.

      I've never had a need to use the global eq in a live setting, but I have adopted Steve's idea for using the global while working on a tone and transferring those settings to a parametric eq block within the patch. Kudos to both of you for providing your thoughts on this subject!

    man,, thanks a lot! i woke up traumatised. i thought all the day i spent yesterday recording bass lines were wasted because it was recorded with globalEq settings for guitar. now it´s clear that globalEqs doens´t affect to USB sends, so i can keep procrastinating a whole extra day ^^

    Thank you Jason, great info, I tend to lose some high end when I go from home to the rehearsal studio across the board, Ill try using it for rehearsal to boost highs a tad.

    I use Blues Jr Amp for live but since it has no effet return or power amp in, so I have to plug my guitar in front of amp. Most people recommend that in this situation you have to turn off the amps and just use the effects or preamps at best. But this sucks especially knowing that many high gain amps in the Hx get the distorted sound from the power amp section and their pre sucks. So here is a solution that I’m experimenting with and so far I managed to get a remarkable results. I turn down drive to minimum and volume to the max in BJ amp in order to keep the preamp colouring to the minimum and mimic the power amp only then I use amp models with no cab in Hx and I use global eq to make it sound like a real deal. If you get the eq right you will notice that this eq works for all amp models and bring them alive!

    Thanks again for great advice, and this is how did view it being used. Not sure if you've covered it, but for another topic, would be interested in your take and process on "gain staging" when using the helix (e.g. should volume boost be at amp, or as a gain block at the end of the chain etc).... I think I may have most my patches with too much gain in various areas. Just a thought. I have seen it discussed, but interested in maybe your take on it. Cheers again!

      Thanks and my pleasure Peter :-) I will have to see what I can do on a 'gain staging' video. To be honest not something I have ever had a need to discuss as far as the internal path of the Helix goes.

    I use my Helix at church. I run my Helix in stereo (xlr) to a digital snake --> Behringer X32. From there the signal goes from the X32 to FOH speakers or to my P16 Personal Mixer --> IEMs. The tone from the Helix is amazing in my IEMs but not in the FOH. If the tone quality of my preset is a level 10 in my ears then it's a level 7 in the FOH. I'm trusting my IEMs to give me a true picture of what the FOH is hearing, but it's not.
    One specific example...Glitz Reverb sounds spacious and lush in my IEMs, but in the FOH you can barely hear the high end trailing of the effect and it sounds similar to just a standard reverb. Do the Global EQ settings come into play here?

    Another great video. Thanks, Jason! I use the Global EQ as a visual tool to help find the best settings, then I reset the Global EQ and add a Parametric EQ block with those settings.

    How do you deal "globally" with the different tonalities, etc. of single coil pickups versus humbuckers, different guitars? I was thinking GEQ would be a perfect way to address this, and was considering suggesting to Line 6 to implement this, and add the ability to save the settings as EQ presets. I think the issue of not having the GEQ applied to the USB is something they should make an option.

    Does anyone know how to turn off amp/cab simulations globally? I run through my tube head and cab.

    • @Jose20571996
      @Jose20571996 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You cannot. You have to individually go in and either bypass them, or remove them. You can also use the send/return to add more signal processing after the amp.

    I gig with a Headrush 108 and had to adjust for that speaker. The setting I have there is used as a default for me. If I have to adjust for room or place I go from there!

    If we can adjust our entire eq from the Global eq settings, what’s the point of using an individual parametric eq?

  • @davidin73
    @davidin73 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Jason. I have a (probably) stupid question. It is possible to set the global eq to make sound a guitar cab more neutral as possible? And if the answer is 'yes' where can I found the the Marshall's 1960a cab paramaters to set up? This because I wanna be use only the final section of my valve amp with this cab, and playing around the hx stomp' amp/cab sims without buying a frfr cab....thanks for your interest.
