The EFL trophy is bigger than the Super Bowl based on attendance. Some years it’s more than what the NFL pulls.
It’s because nfl stadiums don’t house that much seats football stadiums have way more seats in them
@@blackmask2758 no they don't 😂😂😂 it's probably because they play less games and have to travel more so each time they have an event it gets easy plus 80,000 in the stadium because it doesn't happen as often

The Papa John's IS a minor trophy. However, it has its place. I'm a Sheffield Wednesday fan and I'd would have loved to have had a day out at Wembley this season.
I'm a Derby fan and I agree although it's sad that teams like ours with major silverware would now be excited by the EFL trophy

The Football League Trophy is a minor trophy - and so is the Charity Shield. It’s the only bit of spurious thinking in the video.
Yeah it is. But given the context in this video, it meant a lot to the fans. I'm a Gillingham fan and I'd love a day out at Wembley and winning the paint pot, but compared to the league nobody really cares

To make the 1992 relegation weirder, we actually voted in favour of the Premier League, making us a founding member despite never playing in it!
Also, to apply some more context about the 2009 Johnstone's Paint Trophy win, we were playing Scunthorpe, who got to the League One playoff final that season, so we beat a team almost two divisions above us. Unless I'm mistaken, it's also the only time an English club has won a trophy that they didn't qualify for the next season. Also, there were 45,000 fans there that day, twice as many as the opposition brought! A very bittersweet day.

I remember Luton's first season in the conference. My local team Eastbourne Borough were in the same league as them. Which even seems nuts to say these days. What a story

Am I the only one to think how harsh it was for Luton to get relegated in 95-96 with 45 points and 11 wins and still be 7 points off 21st. That was one tough season
Football in general was a lot more competitive back then in the top two divisions, but it was still quite unlucky to come last
Luton is my local club and I’ve been to a game. It’s a great set of fans and the team should be fighting for promotion. Will obviously look out for them and hoping to go to another match!

Great video. I'm a Southend fan and happy for their supporters. They were totally shafted, now my own club has been in turmoil for years due to dreadful owners.
My last FM 22 save I'd taken them to the PL but I had no idea thier history was this mental. I did take a new job mind right after I went up with them.... They were then relegated the next season lol

I used to watch Luton Town with my dad when they were in the then fourth division when I was 10 -11 y.o back in 1960/61 and loved the team. I had one of those wooden rattlers that you waved to make a rattling noise, but were later banned (too many fellow fan's heads getting bumped, lol). Go the Hatters, for the Premier League!

I gotta say, I hope Luton do get promoted they're such a likeable club with history and one hell of a story to go along with it
No team has gone from first tier to fourth, back to first and then again back to fourth and made another return to first tier. Promotion for Luton would make them the first to do the full yoyo twice. The only team that could rival this is Bolton. Luton are one promotion away and Bolton two promotions away from being the absolute ultimate yoyo team.
great video. you forgot to mention in the covid season Luton had to win the last game vs blackburn to stay up. somehow we won 3 2 with only one shot on target. blackburn scored two own goals :) also Nathan Jones walking out on Luton half way thtough our League 1 promotion season just days before the crunch match vs sunderland and then club legend Mick Harford taking Luton up then going vack to a back ground role afterwards. worth remembering that he was a player on the pitch when we won the league cup and the manager for tge league trophy :) great video tho

I really wanted to see Luton in the PL.
Good video, my mum's a Luton fan and it's been fun following the crazy journey they've been on. I'm just about old enough to remember the 88 League Cup win and was at Wembley in 09. Will be a shame when Kenilworth Road goes
First off, my uncle George Cummins played for Luton Town in the 1950s and also appeared in the 1959 FA Cup Final.
Second: Astro Turf. It could be argued that the plastic pitch gave Luton an advantage at home however, to suggest that their First Division fortunes were simply based on having a plastic pitch is unfair. We survived relegation in 1983 by winning at Maine-road, which was then Manchester City’s ground (whatever happened to them?). David Pleat built a good team which had enough about them to make us a decent first division side. It’s like teams in the Premier League now, Brighton, Crystal Palace, Southampton who will probably never make the top four but have enough about them to take points from the other flotsam teams of the Premier League.
There were others clubs with plastic pitches (QPR, Preston) who didn’t have the level of success that we had during those years.
Although we did finally get relegated in 1992 we only did so by two-points finishing 20th of 22 teams. That fact had more to do with the reality that our best players were beginning to feel their age and the team was breaking-up. It’s comparable to the Manchester United team that won the European Cup in 1968. In 1974 their team sheet was unrecognisable and they were relegated. They had the money to rebuild immediately, whereas our chairman decided to cash in his chips and sell off our assets and our ground.
John Gurney wasn't at the club in 2004. He spent 55 days in the summer of 2003 at the club before we got rid. Bill Tomlins was where the rot really set-in.

Great video! I remember my first game as a season ticket holder for Crystal Palace was against Luton after we were relegated from the prem and they were promoted to the championship. They beat us 2-1…
And another crazy story was that in the Sun on Satutday Newspaper that day, Simon Jordan had said that Palace would win the league without losing a game.

Wasn’t it Luton whom had the Futcher Brothers whom were the only other brothers to be in the England team along with the Charltons & Neville’s ? Pretty interesting to hear about the lesser-known EFL clubs like Luton.
They're quite well known again these days since they've been premier league promotion hopefuls for a number of season
i was born in luton so i support them. i moved to doncaster when i was 6 so i support them too. what happened to luton was an abomination.
and a slightly different but equally horrific situation occured at donny rovers in 97 as well ffs. both equally disgusting periods of my life where my teams enjoyed a 5 year spell in non-league.

It was interesting to note that when Luton relegated from the top tier , immediately below them was Notts County , so you’re doing better than them at the moment .
And it was them that relegated us on the last game of the season.. they was already down and the dragged us down with them
For me Luton has always been nothing more than just another annoying club that pops up occasionally in fifa career mode cup games, getting this much insight and perspective on the club’s identity and history really makes you appreciate football more.
Here in american, we dont have promotion or relegation, we just have billionares who buy their way into owning top flight teams, and dont have to worry about competing, something we are quickly trying to export to Europe. If you want football to be the same game it is today, you need to get a 50% + 1 rule, like Germany, ASAP, and block non british investors from owning clubs.
As a Luton fan since they were non league I appreciate how well made this video was. I remember that play off final against York at Wembley as well.

Do you know the German club SC Paderborn? From 2013 to 2020 they couldn’t stay in one league for more than one season.
2013: promotion to Bundesliga 2
2014: promotion to Bundesliga
2015: relegation to Bundesliga 2
2016: relegation to 3rd division
2017: relegation to Regionalliga, but stayed in 3rd devision because TSV 1860 didn’t get a license for the 3rd division
2018: promotion to Bundesliga 2
2019: promotion to Bundesliga
2020: relegation to Bundesliga 2
Loved that season, beating Man U to the title.

Premier league football is painfully slow compared to the lower leagues
The greed of the Prem , the hyper inflated wages, the disconnect between fans and players.....all started to erode my absolute love of football in the 90s. Through the 70s and 80s is mad about it....nowadays, i don't even watch it and don't care about whether England win or lose. There was a time when you couldnt be sure who'd win the First Division..Forest,Liverpool, Villa ,Derby, Everton, Leeds....almost impossible now to be top dog...only money can buy success and that means football is worthless.
All we can hope is football does the full circle and goes back to being for the fans 🤞
