Thanks a lot!! Glad I could share some cool information! I didn’t know much either until I started coming to Crown Point a lot more often! It’s a nice place to visit and live!
great to see Indiana again thank you I used to live in Carmel I forgot how flat it looks or is beautiful Town Crown Point that's crazy they almost tore that building down for a parking lot love the footage
+colleen bloomhuff Thanks for the comment! Yeah, Indiana sure is one flat state... been here most of my life and have always traveled to get away from it all!
We used to regularly go to the shops in the Courthouse when we were little (icecream at Valentino's was a big deal, lol), and of course see Santa during Christmas times. I remember the "save the Courthouse" campaigns at the time. Insane that anyone would favor destroying that magnificent building. I still remember the smell; it's a touchstone of my childhood. ETA: oh, I should add, as a Cub Scout I got to go up into the clocktower, and out on the ledge in front of the Northern clock face. You can see Lake Michigan from there!
Thanks for sharing your story! That is so cool how you can still see the Lake from there even though it’s quite far. A lot has changed in Crown Point since then but still maintained it’s historic small town vibe.
@@DiscoverWithDima Hehe, IIRC, Lake Michigan's waters are around 530' above seal level, and the entire area around it is about 531' above sea level. xD
After Dillinger escaped he hid in Chicago for a couple of years. His girlfriend(The Lady in Red) ratted him out. She told the authorities that he would be at the movies. When she came out the police when in to get him. In the early seventies my sisters waited in the car when my mom went into the grocery downtown. The grocery was next to the jail and inmates would yell at people in the parking lot. In elementary school we brought in Nichols to help save the court house. My favorite was the Ice Cream Socials we had for Little League on the lawn of the court house. CP was a great place to grow up. I left in the late Eighties because the steel mills were laying off thousands and I couldn't see much of a future there. However, Ill increased their income taxes and a lot of executives from Chicago moved around the corner into NW Indiana. So there was a boom in the Nineties. Guessed that one wrong.
First of Reagan's four marriages was in the court house. When he decided run for president they came and cleaned out a bunch of the records. I was a marriage mill. Easy to get a quick wedding if you lived in Chicago. I loved Valentino's sandwich shop in the basement.
Your whole video has numerous drone flyovers of the courthouse almost like it was the center point of your video. Then you go in and say nothing is really happening inside the courthouse. WRONG! We have numerous stores in the lower level Antiques and even a top shelf vinyl record store. Also the Makia Ballroom which is beautiful for weddings or any other events and you would not believe how economical it is to rent. All in all I love your video well done but had to mention lots going on in the courthouse!
My mom tried to get weddings and receptions going there in the early eighties. It took another ten years before it became a reality. The sandwiches and chips and dip at Valentino's were out of this world. Cheers.
I lived there in the early 90s. On the farm side of town. Wouldnt have ever expected the word cool being used in a description of Crown Point haha

1920s movie star, Rudy Valentino (and Natasha) got married in Crown Point Indiana. I bet there is a marriage certificate in the city records.
First of Reagan's four marriages was in the court house. When he decided run for president they came and cleaned out a bunch of the records. I was a marriage mill. Easy to get a quick wedding if you lived in Chicago. I loved Valentino's sandwich shop in the basement.

Nice town but the shitty little roads they have basically everywhere makes it a pain in the ass. Same roads as they where in 1909
Could have been a great little video Until that man just had to say the F word
