    But the BAC Mono is everything but conventional, but could it also be faster than McLaren's P1 GTR around a lap of Anglesey Circuit?

      +Harry Verolme (TPT) It's a quote from the french writer and poet Antoine de Saint Exupéry and is true for alot of things. I found the quote in a brochure for my Lotus Exige. Add lightness! :)

    Cracks me up when I hear peeps talking about how they'd have this car or that car over the BAC! If I could afford one of these, I'd prob have a few other "practical" Supercars in the garage already. You don't pic cars like these over others. You add them to ur collection. When yu wanna share ur thrills with a passenger, yu take the Ariel, Cateram, Lotus, Porsche or whatever. When yu ready for a single mission yu take the mono. If yu love cars and have plenty of money, yu buy em all.

    This car is mega. Loved it since word came out of its release 5 years ago. Wish the price was kept at the $130K they initially were going to price it at!

    Trying to find some motorcycle records for this circuit, for reference. I see a 1:08.11 on a BMW S1000RR set this year (but might not be the outright record). For a 600cc bike it's 1:08.27 on a Yamaha R6. In other words for a production car, the BAC is seriously impressive.

    I see it, but I still don't believe it, the car went round the track in a very short time to my eyes but it didn't need power and brute force to do it. I'm in disbelief but I understand that it's fast, I Know this is real but my mind is in disarray right now...

      They would only do leaderboard laps when its dry out to get as fair results as possible

      It's very far from anywhere too, certainly Evo's offices. They may leave on a sunny day and get there to find pouring rain. I have been there a few times and have never seen a clear view of the mountains!

    Incredible time. Must be VERY sticky Kumhos. The fastest time set by the quickest guy in the Mag 7's series, in a 320bhp Caterham Seven race car (also a Duratec 2.5, also on Kumhos) was 1.11 at Anglesey coastal. Normally the BAC Mono is not as fast as a race Seven (which is lighter). Kumho do a supersoft compound Ecsta, I'm guessing this must be it. How many laps did they last?

      Ecsta's arent as grippy, similar to Hankook RS3's, slower than Bridgestone RE-71Rs or BFG Rival S. Definitely slower than R-Comps like NT01's or Trofeo R's.
      The Mono has these:

      We race with the Ecsta V700 (now called V70A I believe) in the Mag 7's series. It's a very fast tyre comparable with the outstanding Avon ZZR tyre that is also used in the series. Avon ZZRs compare with Pirelli P-Zero Corsa Trofeo, I have used both on my Lotus Exige V6, both are amazing. But the 1.11.3 time set in a 320bhp race Caterham 7 was on the same (or very similar) tyre as the BAC Mono. Kumho do a very soft compound version that we sometimes use for qualifying but mostly wet weather use as dry use chews them up very fast. I wonder if the BAC was using these to set such a fast time? Even then, a really fast Caterham on slicks would do well to find 4 seconds. 1.11 is seriously quick around Anglesey that matches the McLaren P1 on Trofeo tyres. 1.07 is out of this world!

    Sadly, results from cars like the Mono will never change manufacturer or buyer resolve for big, complicated, overpowered hypercars. Simple doesn't sell.

      track performance isn't everything. there are so many things a p1 or 918 can do, that this can't. and a p1 or 918 is going to look a zillion times better while doing it....

      Not really. I feel a single-seater as being more badass. And what better than using a road legal track car and murdering every single thing... even race cars on the track for just a tiny fraction of the price? This is something you really would push and use on the track. I bet less than 5% of hypercar owners actually track their cars.

      James Lovett oh really? and so what? For the price of a P1, I could afford a BAC Mono, a Phantom, a Bentayga, and a Mclaren 675lt. Nobody would be "embarrassed" driving on the street with a 675lt, or a Phantom when they see a P1. But when you are on the track in a P1 and you have a car 1/10 of the price giving you the finger for not moving out of the way... now that's embarassing.

      No its not and we were comparing driving the bac mono on the road compared to a p1......and with more practice the p1 gtr wld be almost as quick on track as the bac mono...probs faster on faster tracks.

    That's seriously quick, when a 675 wouldn't have seen which way it went that's hilarious. As for Khumo's I used to have them on my Atom 300, didn't look much but they were brilliant rubber, I switched to them on the family Galaxy since, wonder if it would be close to the mono lol

      Dazfast It destroyed everything on this track but odly enough the 675LT is faster around top gear test track. It all depends on the track and whether... All these races on this track we're done in different days with different weather.

      I assume it's because Angelsey is a lot more to do with acceleration where the top gear test track heavily focuses on speed and downforce

    How does it compare to the Ariel Atom? in terms of price, performance, price vs performance? I cannot help to think that the basic ariel with the k20 Honda engine has a lot to offer in terms of fun and also performance, considering the price tag.

    When are you going to give the Ariel Atom 3.5R "AND" Ariel Atom 500 a shot at the Leaderboard? Yes the V8 is more powerful but Ariel did state the 3.5R is quicker around smaller more technical courses that don't have a lot of long straights where the V8 would make up time. It'd be fun to see how they both do!

    - Ariel Atom V8;

    I'd love to see the speed trace of this car overlaid against the McLaren to see how it built it's lap with handling and corner grip against the brute force of the McLaren P1 GTR. 1 second is a huge gap for such different cars.

    This is a slow course where downforce and horsepower arn't playing a huge factor. On a bigger track this thing wouldn't have such a lead over the other cars.

    The track suits the mono just perfect. On any fast track like the Nürburgring or Spa the P1, 918, etc will be faster.

    I love the thing but 60 cars is a success story? Also, this felt more like an advertisement than a review to the point that it got distracting. Good for you for supporting the local industry but...

      As of 2013 google said they had 60 employees. I know it usually takes 20-25 people to run a small business that ships nationally. I don't know how many people it takes to run an international operation. I'm sure they grew but thats still not many people to create that many cars.

      60 cars is absolutely a success story - they're practically at production limits (it's a simple operation), and the fact of the matter is that people with $100k to spend on a car typically don't want a rough riding single seater with zero cargo capacity where you're open to the elements while driving. It's an extreme, hyper-focused performance car that requires a certain amount of discomfort to drive, and discomfort is something people tend to avoid.

    I actually didn't expect it to go THAT fast... its insane
    Imagine this car with a more powerful and light engine! 2.5L 305 hp is great, but I'm sure there can be a lighter 2.0 litre 380-400 hp engine!

      Agreed. BAC seems to have hit the sweet spot with balance on their MONO. Any more, and it'd require more tire, aero and would be less progressive for the average owner. I feel they want to make awesome track day cars, not full on racers.

      I believe its a blend of the two. Carbon sections bonded to a tubular space frame.

      It wasn't last I remember. In fact I'm searching right now and i can't seem to find anything suggesting there's structural carbon as part of the chassis itself.

      Reading the site some more, I think they're being just loose enough with the wording to allow people to think that sort of thing. The bodywork is almost all carbon, and the crashbox is carbon, but the chassis is in no way a tub. That picture is certainly what covers the tubeframe, but as far as I can tell is not structural.

    One of my least favorite YTs (Salomondrin) actually pointed out one good thing to think about it. If I buy this car outside UK, how well I will be supported?!I honestly think that I would rather haul this car on trailer then to buy something that would break my back driving to the track. BUT on other hand, especially with my skill, you can anticipate body dmg, mech failures etc. Can BAC deliver support?!

      I'm certainly no expert here but I'm sure there are plenty of experienced mechanics who can work on such a car outside of the UK.
      Gearbox by Hewland, I'd imagine there being stateside support for this brand of gearbox. Engine by Ford, again, I'm almost certain you could find someone in the U.S. specialising in tuned Duratec motors.
      Repairs in the event of damage could be a different story but nothing looks too complicated and I'm sure parts could be shipped and fitted by someone who knows what they are doing.

      Rob R I am not from US, but nevertheless you are right. Still it is not cheap car, and I am not 100% convinced that I would trust anyone so easy to repair/maintain the car which is going so freakishly fast.

      Reptilius Maximus There is no way around it. Small manufacturer, small support. The upside is you'll be talking to the man who designed the car when you call up with a problem, rather than a mouth breather in the back of a mainstream garage.

    Well of course it's fast. It's a stretch to call it a road legal car. Might as well to have an F1 car "road legal" when fitted with street tires. Me personally, I'd take a McLaren P1 GTR all day. I can bring a passenger at least.
