    I think the Master Guides have stated that the Spellbook is an open library of magic, available to anyone who seeks it. This explains the random Spellcaster cameos and why (aside from gameplay issues) most of the Prophecy cards are generic Spellcaster support. So all the lore ranting isn’t too far off

    • @TheOtherOnesVI
      @TheOtherOnesVI 2 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      In addition, Endymion is opposed to the open policy of Spellbook library. This explains why they were/are at war with each other. Hopefully, Magistus lore will be able to add context for this.

      It also explains why Spell Counters are seen on a lot of random monsters that aren't related to the Magical Citadel setting.

      @user-ik2um6bd5w possibly? Crush cards did a DM/Buster blader lore vid and started it off by saying that they knew each other from Endymion's school as skilled dark & white magician, and sometimes they would team up after "graduating" (giving a lore reason for dark paladin). Don't know how much is official and how much is speculation.

    To somewhat explain Destroyer: it was a TCG original card. That's probably why it doesnt line up that well with the lore, the effect, or heck even his artwork compared to everyone else (I can genuinely pull that artwork for a game of D&D and my players would think I'm using a regular 5e token)
    Also from the wiki: In a post on Pojo, Jerome McHale explained this monster's backstory: "It was once a normal wizard who gained immortality from the Spellbooks, but now has to keep consuming their magickal energies to stay alive. Thousands of years of subsisting off magick alone, long after your natural lifespan, not to mention whatever spell made him immortal in the first place, has a tendency to turn people into horrifying hate monsters. Every Prophecy monster uses the Spellbooks in a different way. The Destroyer's way is 'food'."

      That’s really interesting. I literally just left a comment asking about the origin of it’s artwork. What about the Dragon Rulers of the BA monsters? They’ve always been clearly different than the standard Yugioh art style.

    23:18 the reason for the diagram on the Qli cards is because the Qliphort monsters are based on evil forces in Judaism and demons in Christianity. (Just found that out today.)
    As for Spellbook of Master, it's because Sefer Yetzirah is book of Jewish mysticism. (Don't ask me; never heard of the Sefer Yetzirah until today.)
    The diagram comes from Kabbalah, Jewish mysticism. I don't know enough to elaborate further, though.
    Not sure why Spellbook of Wisdom is based on the Torah, though, but High Priestess having *two* books in front of her is a *double*-reference: Torah *scrolls* (look up a picture of Torah scrolls), and it being High Priestess is a reference to the Kohein Gadol ("High Priest"), the spiritual leader of Temple-era Israel. (This role was never filled by a woman, though, but the reference still works.)
    Edit: Spellbook of Wisdom has an open book, not two books. But, like the people who run the Spellbook Library, Jews believe that anyone can open up a holy book and study it, and it is outright encouraged that one study Jewish holy books.

    This is one of the first archetypes that, when I discovered it, made me think "What a headache". I believe competitive versions of this deck only played like... 2 monsters, Magician and High Priestess? Other Prophecy monsters seem cool, but that was the optimized way of playing the deck I guess. Everything else seemed like it was just doing loops after loops of searching for the sole purpose of searching. I really don't like that way of playing...

    So I really think a lot of the Yugioh Archetype stories are connected, given the recurring theme of some kind of war bringing about the rise/resurrection of some deific force with a cataclysmic effect. Specifically, I think a lot of these worlds are happening one after another, in a cycle. That's why I think Northwemko is referenced here, because she is one of those forces that participated in this cycle alongside Garandolf. The reference to Ruin and Demise is very apt, because I think they are kind of the most blatant reference to this theme, given the whole, "Cycle of the World," thing. But Northwemko is the rebirth to Garandolf's destruction, much like how the lore of Ruin and Demise state that Ruin brings about temporary ends, and Demise brings the final end. In the case of the Prophecy and related Archetypes, there's A LOT of candidates for the deific entities that are trying to destroy/renew the world. Invoked Elysium, World of Prophecy, Selene, Aiwass; basically, I think this whole story goes to show there isn't just one deity like in other stories, and they all want credit for destroying the world.

    • @CasualIvory
      @CasualIvory 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you're confused as to what entities I'm talking about in the other stories: Sophia Goddess of Rebirth, Avida Rebuilder of Worlds, Albaz/Aluber. The list goes on but I'm getting ready for work so I'll find more later.
