In the 1986 movie, whenever you saw Megatron and Starscream standing next to each other, they are both the same height. I think what happened was that in the original miniseries, all Decepticons were shorter than Megatron, and just slightly taller that the average Autobot. As the series & animation quality progressed, the Seekers, Soundwave and Shockwave were the same size as Megatron.
@@djdime2002 Animation inconsistencies aside, Starscream was always shorter but never that short as how it looks with MP-52. On the scale chart the height is correct, but they also look different proportion-wise which is why it works for animation. In reality, with this figure...it just looks off. Though, the best way to get around it is to do some clever posing and positioning to minimize the scale issues. If you don't see any with this figure, then that's great. In my mind, Starscream was always shorter than Megatron but by like half a head or so like how Soundwave and Shockwave were.
Just bought him and Thundercracker with Skywarp coming down the pike. I'll be using this video to transform them. I'm a sucker for seekers too. Great video.
The "improved" KO by Eagle of which you speak... it's a quality roulette. A lot of folks had Starscreams that were fine, mine wasn't and it's on the brink of breaking in a couple places. The Eagle Thundercracker is said to be better, but some folks have had trouble with jet mode due to tighter tolerances. The Eagle Skywarp, however...so far, it's universally reviled as the worst of the three. The joints in the ankles are held by screws instead of pins, the ratcheted knees are stronger, and both the knee joints & ankle joints are said to be made of a stronger material. Ironically enough, *unlike* the legit MP52 mold AND the 1:1 KO, the Eagle KOs are packaged in robot mode instead of jet mode, and the instructions reflect this...if you get'em. (Some folks got'em with just Starscream, others got'em with all three, others still didn't get'em AT ALL...)
Hey Ben! If you have time, can you please make a quick video of your top 10 or 15 KO figures? Your videos really helped with my buying decisions and I'd love to know which you highly recommend in 2022. I really hope they bring back MPP33 because I missed out... gotta say the Jinbao Gravity Builder and MPP36 are my personal favorites from a quality and transformation standpoint.
I was going to get the DS trio. But it became obvious that they wouldn't scale well at all with any conehead, like the new mpnt thrust. And I'd really like them to. It also doesn't look like DS is going to be making any coneheads. So, just went with KO for these, so that when I get the newer mpnt thrust, they'll look better together if they end up next to each other in the display.
Ben, how I wish a Company will make MP scaled KOs of the G1 Toys and modernize the articulation, Hardware and Paint...I would be in Paradise....I remember the Cartoon but I love the toys.

I own both Original and KO of the MP. I had Maketoys, and the new one, forget the name. The MP's blow the others out of the water. Get the KO, it is well worth owning.
I think MP honestly destroys all the other when it comes to looks and presence oh the shelf. People don't realize who keep calling him to short, he is pretty much the same height as MP-11. And in the comics and the cartoons he was always shorter. Well once in a blue moon he was taller in the cartoon, but largely was much shorter. I own both the real, and KO MP-52. Sold off all the rest. Real is in Jet Mode, KO is in bot mode. Love him.
I started watching Transformers toon in 2021 and my memory always says that Starscream is the same height as Megatron in bot modes. Also, if you want one of the other colored F-15 seekers but don't already have a MakeToys one, get one of those, the transformation is fun and satisfying. I have the Thundercracker, altho there *IS* a small problem with his left hand, as if they took a copy of the right hand and just put a thumb on the other side of it, so it won't fold down properly when going to alt mode. ShowZStore and MakeToys have still yet to get back to me on that after 7 fucking months (May to now December). Still, it's fun so long as I ignore having to pop off the left hand when going to bot mode.
My KOs bottom half of the cockpit in jet mode falls down from the top half constantly. The "pegs" right in there thay are supposed to make it lock in are like barely a nub. So they dont grab at all. I'm thinking I'll have to add a drop of epoxy to it to raise the nubs profile so that it will grab enough to stay stuck up in there.
Oh and a little floor polish on the cockpit will make it latch better. On the real one, the clips are slightly thicker. That is why it doesn't fit perfectly. Two Coats and mine shuts perfect now.
Is there a fix for the shoulder pauldron if it doesn't come out all the way and clip into the back section? My copy of Thundercracker has this minor issue.
Imagine if we could get masterpiece figures other than g1, beast wars or the bayverse films I would not mind having some animated figures or prime figures.
@@JasonSawyer I feel like something like that could be done similar to how it was tackled by Transart, who did the BW Transmetals figures in MP scale. They could upscale the basic design, add a little extra articulation and sculpting, and maybe a couple extra accessories, and they'd be good.
The PRICE POINT on the Real McCoy is OUTRAGEOUS, factor in he is Noticeably UNDER TALL, Barrel Chested, Thin Thighs, Bulbous Head, Ugly Backpack & the Canopy is oddly proportioned making it not so much "Toon" Accurate, but just a passing resemblance of StarScream from some of the scenes & I easily PASSED on the Takara Tomy/Hasbro one. This KO, at a Reasonable Price Point I can get behind, if only for the Jet mode. Thanks for the Review, I'll most likely be ordering one & the other 2 when they come out as well.
Under Tall? Do you mean he is noticeably Short? Because he isn't. For one, he is the same height as MP-11. For two, in the comics and the cartoon Starscream and the seekers were always shorter than Megatron. They were pretty much just under the height of Ironhide, and bots alike.
@@djdime2002 I just checked a side by side of the two and MP-11 is slightly taller than MP-52. But not only that, the body proportions are different so the head sits higher up on the torso so it gives the illusion that it's taller than it is, since the MPs are more to scale with each other and DS Crimson Wings is more scaled with the Maketoys Seekers. I don't think the argument is that the Seekers are shorter than Megatron, but standing next to MP-36, Starscream is glaringly shorter. Something just doesn't look right.
I picked up the Maketoys Starscream recently. I am not a fan. On my copy nothing seems to want to tab together, so whenever I try to pose him something comes untabbed and he becomes a floppy mess. I'm probably gonna sell him off. I have Crimson Wing coming in, but I was curious about this K.O. I know the official one has some major QC/ build issues, and seems to be generally disliked by many reviewers. So I'm not gonna drop the almost $300 on him. I was wondering if the K.O. has fixed some of the issues. Mainly if they fixed the weak ass ankles and knee ratchets?
Great review Ben. I love this ko. They really outdid themselves to make this as good as the official. I really like that they even painted it to match the paint on the official (unlike the MP-44 ko). If you were contemplating whether or not to get MP-52, definitely go with the ko. You're getting basically the same figure for way cheaper.
@@BensKOllectables Before you do that, take a look to see what's holding it from being fully closed. It may be that the cockpit was improperly cut, leading to just a little too much plastic at the bottom part keeping it open. Hopefully I explained it well enough so that you understand what I'm talking about.
I got Crimson Wings and he's a robust, solid figure. Stands well and the joints are terrific and has plenty of heft to him. It doesn't have all the accessories and faces of the MP but I already know aside from the extra faces, they'd all end up in a parts bin like the other MP figures I own. IMO, Crimson Wings scales much better to MP Megatron and Acoustic Wave.
For me, the waist joint on the TE isn't worth the break up between the torso, and then when using the waist joint, the cockpit splits. The MP mold just looks perfect to me. Not a fan of the huge wings on the TE either; Takara really got it right.
I was tempted to get this one before the price was revealed. He cost me as much as Deformation Starscream did, which is ridiculous. A 4th party figure should never cost as much as an ever larger 3rd party figure of the same character when the former doesn't need concern itself with the engineering and development cost.
I'll take that ko mp 52 over DS any day. Transformation is satisfying, and in bot mode their is no waist swivel, but I'll take that over DS's poorly placed waist swivel.....that goes right through the cockpit glass.
The addition of the waist swivel is more than just for extreme posing. I used it for my DS Crimson Wings to adjust his pose slightly to clear away from figures behind and in front that I wouldn't otherwise have been able to do with the old MP seeker mold. It's great that it's there when you need it than to not have it at all. If you don't want the sculpt broken, then don't use it. It's that simple, really. The one thing that I absolutely hate on the MP-52 mold is the null rays and how the integration of both alt mode missiles and the null ray leaves an ugly looking seam line along the length of it. It looks terrible.
Maketoys just feels like junk after any of these. I have it along with DS-01 and MP-11 and it feels flimsy, hollow, and limited. It should be a $60 to $70 figure not $150 and up for certain colors. Aside from multiple areas of the body feeling cheap it has a shit looking head and hands which everyone complains about and says they need to be changed to make it a decent figure, even more of a reason the price for it is too high. It just sucks!
Maketoys I actually still like, but it's dated for sure. At the time, it was a better mold than the aged MP11 seeker body. But the paint and diecast of the Maketoys was amazing. The head and hands did suck, though. And the wings untabbing all the time bothered me a lot. But I still have a soft spot for it, but yeah DS kind of is the updated version of those now.
I don't like that coloring, either. I think in some episodes he was that dark, but in my head Starscream was always a light gray, almost nearing white at times.
In-hand, it isn't that dark. It's more of a light gray. True that Starscream is lighter in color, but the gray that they used really makes the figure look premium.
Could there be a potential Generation 2 repaint?? This darker shade of gray - like the darker red & blue of Takara's MP10 - reminds me of the G2 Starscream. (Meanwhile, I'm amazed that Hasbro never released the Takara MP10 with a repaint of the trailer as a G2 Optimus Prime; Takara wouldn't have done it since they probably only had Laser Optimus as their G2 Optimus)
Pretty sure the big difference is the color of the effects parts, the KO’s pieces look darker and less transparent than the official MP’s effects parts
I just quickly skimmed other reviewers reviews, I have previously watched of the official MP’s, and my claim appears to be accurate. You can check for yourself. Sure some of the reviewers who have bright white backgrounds may make the effects parts to really appear more translucent and lighter tints of plastic. However even checking reviewers with similar shading and color pallets in their backgrounds, their effects parts still appear more translucent and lighter tinted than the ones in this review.
