Band Maid just released a double live set of Manners/Black Hole from their recent online concert. You can see a decent display of Akane's drumming over the two tracks :-)
As mentioned, Manners (new intro - worth hearing) and Black Hole (wow - intricate arrangement) are definitely worth your attention. These are a remarkable group of musicians.
A rare Japanese band that became big overseas first, then garnered attention at home based on that success. Was due to play at Bodukan in Tokyo before covid intervened, an indication they had sort of made it in Japan, as its not a venue unimportant acts get to play at.
Mr. Rooney, you have already reacted their live video before, the song called "Freedom", and commented "This is some tight band!", "This is seriously good!", "The drumming here is off the charts fantastic!", etc. Anyway, Band-Maid is a true live band. Excellent video sir. Akane Hirose is one of the most original drummers of recent times. On the band's YT channel you can find a song combo (Manners - Black Hole) live. They are very different songs so you can appreciate the wide range of composition of the band (and their expertise when playing live). Thanks!

there are several live videos on youtube, but believe me Akane in concert is better than in the studio, you must not forget that she is Japanese, she cannot cheat, if she does it on the record it is because then in concert she makes you fly. Band Mai's latest record contains songs with literally impossible drumlines. Akane started playing drums late, before studying piano and trombone, she started studying drums about six years before hitting her first record with Band-Maid in 2013, she is now 31, so she started studying at age of 15 or 16. My brother is a great drummer and a teacher who graduated from the Milan Conservatory, and he started studying the drums when I gave him one, it was a Sonor that he still has, it cost me a fortune, he was 11 or 12 years old, now he loves very Akane but when she studies her drumlines, I see that she often gets nervous. Akane has a huge musical culture, and you can hear her go through the history of drums in one song, she can remind you of all the great ones when you listen to her. The thing that now distinguishes her is that as she matures she has acquired an impossible speed, especially in moving through the drum rig, and she manages to close the impossible fills in the complete absence of micro delays or inaccuracies, she is truly unique. Akane's great strength however remains her ability to create absolutely consistent drumlines with the song, varying tempos and structures in a truly unique way and filling everything with beautiful and original sudden fills that leave you speechless.
PLAY - FREEDOM - DOMINATION - MORATORIUM - ONSET these are all Live versions in an actual concert - 2019. Newer Live is no audience but online concert. MANNERS/BLACK HOLE being the newest with THRILL live also.
If you want to know where the pigeon is, look no further than the cute maid playing the rhythm guitar and doing back up vocals 😀. As far as live, theirs plenty of official live videos on their channel. "Domination", "Play", "Real Existence", "onset", and newer "Manners/Black Hole" and many others. There's plenty more but you will be hard pressed to find them in YT.
You need to watch the recently released Manners/Black Hole video, awesome drum's and bass. Performing live is where this band really thrives and as an aside Jimmy Page is a big fan of the band especially Akane's drumming
Coincidentally I was using my Sony MDR 7506 headphones while watching this reaction video. I bought mine over 5 years ago, and it still has a clear balanced sound, not overly bass-ey or trebly like many modern headphones of the mp3 and music streaming era. They’re my go-to headphones whenever I to listen to some Bandmaid ,which is at least an hour a day everyday!
ckup vocalist and rhythm guitarist. Her surname Kobato means 'small pigeon' Band-Maid is bigger worldwide than they are in Japan and they pretty big in Japan. It's probably the main reason why all of their most recent videos have English subtitles available via closed captioning.
Their live performances are great because Akane brings the same precision, her buddy MISA on bass is always stronger in the mix...they're a dream team...and the band shine brighter, even though the studio's are great. It's the opposite with most great bands IMHO. I recommend 'No God' Live.
"...84 years have passed..." I never thought I'd see the maids in this channel again at this point, what a cool surprise! Akane's a beast, my fav drummer hands down. That change of tempo she does at the end of the break down must be one of my favorite moments of her drum work, and that's something since I love anything she plays. I'd recommend Don't You Tell Me as next, if you ever plan on coming back to them this year. Either the mv or live both are great for different reasons, I think you'll laugh and enjoy the mv where their dispairing personalities are displayed but the live version has a cool conversation between Misa's bass and Kanami's guitar. Those instruments speak some kind of language I swear. And of course the beautiful job of Queen Kong at the drums which never disappoints. Cheers! 🤘🕊️
These girls work really hard at their craft, putting a lot of thought into every little bit they do. Each song has a certain uniqueness and is designed to please both their musician and non-musician fans. Kanami is the backbone of the creativity, but then everyone adds to or refines their part. They are all like best friends both on and off stage. No egos involved here!
Yeah, that's the most amazing aspect of BAND-MAID. Nothing stands in the way of their talent. No quarrels in the band, no hurt feelings. It's a band where every member may serve as a role model for us. Well... except for MISA, I would cordially disagree with her idea that "Alcohol is necessary" 😂
Oh he asks for live performances and the Maidiacs are bound to show up. Also they have their own website where they do play throughs all the time. Akane has a bunch of videos there too.
In case you didn't know, Andrew: Kanami, the lead guitarist, also writes the songs; Miku, the 2nd guitarist, writes the lyrics; Saiki, the vocalists, usually directs and has the final say on many decisions; Akane (A-Ka-Nay) is one of the best rock drummers in the business with her relentless drive, fluid dynamics and the kick. And MISA is rather unique with her alternating pick & slap style with up & down neck runs that not only drive the songs, but adds a counter lead to Kanami's main riffs and solos. Band-Maid has so much talent, personality and creativity that we're lucky to have such a prolific and joyful band (over 100 songs) in our lives. As for grabbing some live videos... just go to their YT channel.
You previously did "Freedom" Live from this band. One of the best bands in the world. You'll love them based on the music that you love, because your taste seems to be like mine and I can't get enough of this band. Now do the Band Maiko version of this song to really have your mind blown. :P
I doubt you'll find a live version on TH-cam, but you could probably find one on Facebook or Bilibili. They are a fantastic live band. Sadly, i heard they are more popular outside of Japan. Don't ask me how that works.
Hmm, you already did "Freedom" live, it has a huge drum solo. Other ideas: Domination live - kinda basic but has a little of everything, classic Band Maid Play live - harder, the bassist is on fire and the drummer goes crazy Onset live - an instrumental, I'd really like to see how you react to this one
By now you've read all the comment reminding you that you've already seen and liked this band. See, this is the price you pay for taking too long between Band-Maid videos!! If you make them, we will come, (Band of Dreams) Seriously though, you want good live (like your first one), go with Domination Live, Onset, or the double video live drop of Manners and Black Hole (I actually prefer the MV for Manners, but they are such different songs it's a good combo).
Their last online concert went out to an estimated 67 countries. So I would say they are becoming big worldwide. According to album sale they are growing the fastest in the US. Japan has so much new music of every type right now it is hard to make your mark. But also they are growing there as well. If we can just get beyond covid I think they will just explode everywhere. Talent will out.
They have 410k subscribers on their TH-cam channel, and 180k people listen to them monthly on Spotify. I would say, they have at least half a million fans worldwide, probably more... If they have the same ratio of viewers/subscribers as Andrew has on his channel 😂
You already saw them live and you saw Akane do her amazing drum solo in their song Freedom. You should check out some more Band-Maid, you'll like them. Rock on! 🖤🤘
Hello, you asked how big they are. They are worldwide, perhaps since 2013-14. The basic story was that they blew up popularly beyond Japan after releasing "Thrill" on TH-cam. So yes, Asia, Europe, all of America (from Alaska/Canada/US/Mexico, down through to Brazil & maybe even further south), Australia, etc. The only places that I am unsure of is Africa (& maybe mainland China), but I believe they have some fans there, such as in South Africa etc. The number of fans (informally, Maidiacs) is somewhat unknown, but probably in the many thousands, maybe even a million. I'd like to see a metric on that. And Akane Hirose is so good that she got a shout-out from (and photo taken with) Jimmy Page, who attended one of Band Maid's concerts. Yes, please keep reacting to more of their stuff, whether it's music videos or Live, specifically Official Live, but you can also react to fan-cams although the sound can be terrible. And they did have an online concert a few months ago, to connect with fans during the pandemic. You can also react to music from their alter-ego's, Band-Maiko & cluppo. In fact, "Secret My Lips" has a Maiko version.
Not bad, should listen to this band more. BTW Eloy Casagrande posted a cover of Meshuggah's Marrow on his channel (One of my favorite Meshuggah's songs.), and I really don't know how his drum kit survived... Check it out!
If you have interesting the drummer , you may check Unlucky Morpheus ( アンラッキーモフィウス) / Knight of sword , Unending Sorceress . Carry on singing to the sky (singing in English) Wagakki-Band (和楽器バンド)/ Homura , Akatuki no Ito (live) I love them as Band-Maid.
Thanks Andrew, another fine reaction. Band-Maid just released a new 2 song live Manners/Black Hole from their online concert in May. Manners is mid-tempo with Akane/Misa opening the song to perfection and Black Hole is their 220bpm controlled chaos classic. Manners was the 9th song of this concert and they had enough energy and stamina and confidence in each other to make Black Hole the next to last song of the concert. Their synergy pulled them though and I don't think they missed a beat. Onset-Live is an instrumental that they also nailed. Peace.
Great job and happy to see you back with the Maids! Warning! Live from their online show would be a good one to check out, very complex rhythmically. 🎶🎸🥁🎸🎶🔥🙂
Also check out Domination live. These lady’s are Japanese precision. Andy old mate they fucking rock. Cheers gotta get back off handed triplets. Cheers Beau
And now you know why 91% isn't subscribed take some time to get to know the band I know you are a drummer but there are 4 other members that need your love , to be fair then sit back and watch the subscribers join be well great channel keep up the good fight
Cool reaction . Oh you should've picked a live song, they are so much better live. I recommand you check their songs : Onset, Domination, Play, Blackhole, Warning, Blooming The band is waay waay better than it seems, really really good.
For drumming and live, I’d go for Domination or Freedom. Freedom has a drum solo… They are world class and their songwriting abilities are exceptional.
That's 2 Band Maid songs that you liked . Any suggestions on the other comments are good. For personal study purposes you could try Band Maid prime. I don't think it would be right or possible to do a reaction video on that site.
There are also numerous "educational videos" on their recent Blu-Rays, where you can see each instrumentalist playing her part individually, and then the whole band (without Saiki).
Keep up the good work! Subscriber since your first Yoyoka video. Sometimes a video reaction might disapoint because it doesn't live up the MY REACTION VIDEO. In my head. That I could've made if I had a youtube channel or skills or electricity. So anyways keep trying to live up to my unspoken expectation my good man!
Wearing my 7506's right now and just got a pair for my wife after she borrowed mine for a week. I like the details you give on what the drums are doing, I know so little about it so it's really informative.
This being only your second taste of Band Maid. there's over 100 more songs. There's a drum cover that Akane does from a few years ago. Cam focused on her. Ass well as newer stuff. You've already seen Freedom Live from them.
They have mad respect for their fans who are known as "MAIDIACS" and they address them as "Masters" and "Princesses" and they call their concerts "Servings".
The rythm guitarist with the red rose is Miku Kobato. Miku is Japanese for pigeon , she is called that because her toes point in and she is always tripping and falling down. Not to visible in this but if you wat h the Thrill MV, it is extremely noticeable.
if you have time to check em out Unlucky Morpheus have live recordings of their songs Black Pentagram, and Knight of Sword floating about TH-cam. some really good stuff
BAND-MAID are taking over the World, their stated goal. Now you have to do the BAND-MAIKO version, 'Secret Maiko Lips'. But if you really want to see Akane shine check out 'Freedom' LIVE.
So I’m about 12 months ahead of you and asked that very same question. There’s a heap more live stuff and as far as I can tell they still haven’t taken off yet but I’m not sure why. I know Rob Zombie is big on them. Cheers old mate Thanks for the content. Beau
Band-Maid is music for musicians, but without the pretentiousness you often see. There's so much amazing stuff hidden in their compositions that I feel like the majority of people miss, but it's always so interesting.
If you want a live performance of Akane Hirose the drummer, then check out the bubble live performance of Manners and Black Hole. They are soundwise totally opposite from each other.
CHECKOUT BAND MAIDS SONG > ONSET > LIVE ONSET SHOWS HOW ENDLESS BAND MAIDS TALANT REALLY IS!!!!! IT IS MY FAVORITE !!! RON Y LOCATION > USA > NJ PEACE ✌️
To answer your question about how popular they are around the world. I'd say they're more popular abroad then they are in Japan. They still have a lot of fans in Japan, but the biggest portion of the fanbase are abroad.
Miku Kobato, rhythm guitar and second vocalist, founder and erstwhile leader of Band-Maid called their 2019 tour "World Domination." She wasn't joking!
You asked if this is just a japanese Phenomenom.... these awesome girls played some shows here in Germany and they were blown away by the crowd singing all the lyrics along even don't understanding the japanese tiles of the lyrics... so..no! It's not just a japanese thing goin' on! They are awesome musiciancs, Misa's gonna rock the Bass, Akane on the Drums is one of a few drummers gettin' to the point, Kanami's Soli are outstanding and for Miku and the rest... there's no more to say! An awesome Band having fun to play together! That's the point! I'm a guitarist and singer for more than 20 years in a band too and i really feel the 'let's call it' jive... they have! Really great... and they are gonna be even greater! ...btw... i like your chanel alot! Good job, mate!
You have to see the music video. This song is done by their alter ego band, Band-Maiko, which does songs that involve the geisha culture in Japan. Maiko is the Japanese term for a geisha in training.
If wanting to see what shes good for, go listen to "black hole", " from now on" or Rinne.. Black hole is according to wiki their fastest song, with a BPM of 220.
I'm pretty sure they tour in the U.S. at least once a year (they're in the U.S. right now though I think I missed them since I didn't) know about them until I saw Herman Li's reaction video). So they seem to be big over here). I know at least one of their official live videos is in the U.S. and there's a gigantic crowd. Also, it is live music and not a studio recording (you can hear it if you pay closer attention).
I MAY have missed it in the comments below, but I'll throw in their song "Warning" - live. It's a pretty quick song and Akane doesn't even break a sweat. Akane consistently blows me away. Not only because of her ability, but because of the CHOICES she makes. If your looking for pure speed, go with "Black Hole" - live, but there are sooooo many songs where she shines (just like the rest of this amazing band).
Onset (live) from their channel is a great instrumental with an excellent audio mix. Manners / Black Hole (live) is two very different styles. A groovy classic rock song paired with an almost speed metal track. The audio mix isn't quite as good.
Their recent release of a double track live of Manners/Black Hole would be a good way to see their versatility. Manners more of a pure old school blues rock song and Black Hole is chaos. In a good way. Akane had continued to challenge herself and get better over the years and they were growing in popularity overseas and in Japan before Covid hit pause on everything.
"Manners" and "Black Hole" (two songs on one video) is great. As you watched "secret My lips" you should look at Band Maid's alter ego "Band Maiko" (maiko=apprentice geisha) playing "secret Maiko lips" -- it was the classiest ever April Fool's prank. Also, watch "Domination" live, from the same concert as "Freedom". And "Onset" - live instrumental. PS: the pigeon is Miku (aka rhythm guitar and backup vocals -- also founder and lyricist and spokesperson and general ball of energy).
I would suggest their most recent upload, the two song video "Manners/Black Hole" live. If you don't want to devote the time for 2 songs, just go with "Black Hole." If you want to spot the pigeon, it's easy. Just look for the red flower and the pigtails. In this video the pigeon is the one both singing backup and playing guitar.
Band Maid just released a double live set of Manners/Black Hole from their recent online concert. You can see a decent display of Akane's drumming over the two tracks :-)

Considering bands are only invited to play at Budakon which is considered a high and exclusive honor. Bands just can't book a gig there.

I mean, the Japanese music market is super competitive. It's hard to stand out.
Hmm, you already did "Freedom" live, it has a huge drum solo. Other ideas:
Domination live - kinda basic but has a little of everything, classic Band Maid
Play live - harder, the bassist is on fire and the drummer goes crazy
Onset live - an instrumental, I'd really like to see how you react to this one
By now you've read all the comment reminding you that you've already seen and liked this band. See, this is the price you pay for taking too long between Band-Maid videos!! If you make them, we will come, (Band of Dreams) Seriously though, you want good live (like your first one), go with Domination Live, Onset, or the double video live drop of Manners and Black Hole (I actually prefer the MV for Manners, but they are such different songs it's a good combo).
He did not forget that he's seen BAND-MAID before 😊
He starts this video by reading comments to his FREEDOM video 😉 Look at 1:29
Band Maid is my favorite rock band. I went to a live performance in 2017. Lots of fun.
67 countries actually according to the band.
@@_DriveTime Thanks, corrected that in my comment.
Rock on! 🖤🤘
Their newer stuffs are awesome, the bass and drums!
Carry on singing to the sky (singing in English)
Wagakki-Band (和楽器バンド)/ Homura , Akatuki no Ito (live) I love them as Band-Maid.
Cheers Beau
The official live videos of their songs Domination and Freedom are among their best and include drum solos.
And now you know why 91% isn't subscribed take some time to get to know the band I know you are a drummer but there are 4 other members that need your love , to be fair then sit back and watch the subscribers join be well great channel keep up the good fight
Cool reaction
. Oh you should've picked a live song, they are so much better live.
I recommand you check their songs : Onset, Domination, Play, Blackhole, Warning, Blooming
The band is waay waay better than it seems, really really good.
Ahh, finally another reaction to Band-Maid !
Happy Birthday 🎂 Kanami, lead guitarist of Band-Maid! We love 💘 your music 🎶 here in Silicon Valley! You are like Mozart 🎹!
Happy birthday!
For drumming and live, I’d go for Domination or Freedom. Freedom has a drum solo…
They are world class and their songwriting abilities are exceptional.
You should check out no god and black hole live
Band Maid is something special!!! Please Do a reaction on Band Maid "No God live"!!!!! Akane and MISA are simply a match made in heaven!!!
These girls are not just famous in Japan. They have toured all over the world including the U.S.
They are awesome live! Best band out there in my book!
Wearing my 7506's right now and just got a pair for my wife after she borrowed mine for a week.
I like the details you give on what the drums are doing, I know so little about it so it's really informative.
Band-Maids live version of "Warning" has great drums. It's an official video.
The are not just tight and moving, they are great musicians, too!
Big world wide, The Pigeon is Miku Kubota backup Vocalist and Rhtym Guitarist. And band creator
The upcoming Netflix crime movie Kate, will have a couple of BandMaid songs in it, including a cameo live performence by them
The rythm guitarist with the red rose is Miku Kobato. Miku is Japanese for pigeon , she is called that because her toes point in and she is always tripping and falling down.
Not to visible in this but if you wat h the Thrill MV, it is extremely noticeable.
It's actually Kobato what means pigeon in Japanese.
For sure more Band-Maid! Yes please!
One word regarding live performances, "DOMINATION" enjoy!
Miku Kobato, the rythmn guitarist and founder of the band is nicknamed "The Pigeon".
You've already reacted to "Freedom (Live)" which had a drum solo...
if you have time to check em out Unlucky Morpheus have live recordings of their songs Black Pentagram, and Knight of Sword floating about TH-cam. some really good stuff
Band-Maid - Freedom .... if you wanna see her drum solo

Drum Teacher Reacts: AKANE HIROSE | My FIRST Time Hearing BAND-MAID - 'Freedom' | I LOVE This!
BAND-MAID are taking over the World, their stated goal. Now you have to do the BAND-MAIKO version, 'Secret Maiko Lips'. But if you really want to see Akane shine check out 'Freedom' LIVE.

Drum Teacher Reacts: AKANE HIROSE | My FIRST Time Hearing BAND-MAID - 'Freedom' | I LOVE This!
Thanks for the tip David!
CHECKOUT BAND MAIDS SONG > ONSET > LIVE
ONSET SHOWS HOW ENDLESS BAND MAIDS TALANT REALLY IS!!!!!
IT IS MY FAVORITE !!!
RON Y
LOCATION > USA > NJ
PEACE ✌️
Akane is my drum goddess!!! Band Maid are my music goddesses!!!!
Miku Kobato = small pigeon
Their song Domination live is my favorite example of their skill.
I MAY have missed it in the comments below, but I'll throw in their song "Warning" - live. It's a pretty quick song and Akane doesn't even break a sweat. Akane consistently blows me away. Not only because of her ability, but because of the CHOICES she makes. If your looking for pure speed, go with "Black Hole" - live, but there are sooooo many songs where she shines (just like the rest of this amazing band).
for a live they have a new double song video manners and black hole...it shows a bit of contrast for the band and Akane's drumming
Freedom live recording.

Drum Teacher Reacts: AKANE HIROSE | My FIRST Time Hearing BAND-MAID - 'Freedom' | I LOVE This!
Onset (live) from their channel is a great instrumental with an excellent audio mix. Manners / Black Hole (live) is two very different styles. A groovy classic rock song paired with an almost speed metal track. The audio mix isn't quite as good.
For next reaction i will love if you will react to warning or choose me
Gotta check out Nemophila. Their drummer, Murata Tamu, is insane, especially playing X Japan's songs.
Their recent release of a double track live of Manners/Black Hole would be a good way to see their versatility. Manners more of a pure old school blues rock song and Black Hole is chaos. In a good way. Akane had continued to challenge herself and get better over the years and they were growing in popularity overseas and in Japan before Covid hit pause on everything.
recommend their most recent video > Manners+Black Hole(official live video)
th-cam.com/video/iaf94nNSRGE/w-d-xo.html
Yes!---Manners/Black Hole !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Definitely check out "Domination" live and another good set is the new double track "Manners/Black Hole" as others have said.
Band Maid will give you every music genre in one song.
He reacted to that one already 😊
"Manners" and "Black Hole" (two songs on one video) is great. As you watched "secret My lips" you should look at Band Maid's alter ego "Band Maiko" (maiko=apprentice geisha) playing "secret Maiko lips" -- it was the classiest ever April Fool's prank. Also, watch "Domination" live, from the same concert as "Freedom". And "Onset" - live instrumental.
PS: the pigeon is Miku (aka rhythm guitar and backup vocals -- also founder and lyricist and spokesperson and general ball of energy).
ANDREW JIMMY PAIGE LIKES THE DRUMMER VERY VERY MUCH
I would suggest their most recent upload, the two song video "Manners/Black Hole" live. If you don't want to devote the time for 2 songs, just go with "Black Hole."
If you want to spot the pigeon, it's easy. Just look for the red flower and the pigtails. In this video the pigeon is the one both singing backup and playing guitar.
hmmmm...well....."Black Hole" is such a blast, no doubt----but,still, even then, --Nothing exceeds "Manners " !!!
