Pharoah's evocative music has been an ongoing revelation for me since 1970. I was fortunate to catch his unique sound in different venues through the years, from Detroit to San Diego. Sadly, we've lost another jazz master, but Pharoah's profound musical legacy lives on. The journey continues....
I just finished the Camino de Santiago in Spain this past December, and this song along with "The Creator Has a Master Plan" were my prayers everytime I walked up hills and whenever I felt a bit downhearted. I am blessed to have found this song and wish many more would hear it with their ears as well as their hearts.
One of my favorite albums EVER...Jewels of Thought...even more than A Love Supreme or Kind of Blue...years years ago saw Pharoah and Leon Thomas at The Great American Music Hall in SF and sat close to the stage...Mr. Thomas sat at our table and we shook his hand.!
Leon Amos Thomas, Jr. is the incredible vocalist. May Allah (swt) have mercy on us and lift this plague and may He forgive us and guide us to comply with His commands now and in its aftermath. Ameen. Thank you for sharing this beautiful peace!
M. Jeddah, I am truely blessed as you are by this magnificent work of art. I was able to see Pharoah and Leon live. Truely a lifetime experience. Take Care
@Ross May music has no nationalities, no boundaries. In strict meaning of 'religion' (Latin origin : something that binds the people together), music is a religion. In today's world, probably the most needed religion.
Very lux, very sophisticated, expensive sounding. It makes me want to improve my hi-fi to appreciate the finer details. Gilles Peterson from BBC Radio 6 introduced me to Pharoah Sanders about 20 years ago. When someone plays like this, I can tell that it is a craft. Pure excellence
i once saw him play live and during the gig his eyes lit up and he took the sax away from his mouth and keep playing it. he was playing notes by magic it was amazing the audience gasped and he just kept playing like it was just normal.
I listened to this every day when I arose in the morning in many of my college days. Of course, I rolled a joint to accompany the composition. The beginning of my spiritual days! It still sounds as wonderful now as way back then. I must have been on to something then and now.
Last year i went to Turkey and upon seeing the roof of the interior of the Blue Mosque, i had a personal revelation. First, that the interior of the building was the most breathtakingly beautiful one i had ever seen. It literally brought me to tears. Then, my 2nd thought was how was it possible that a religion that could inspire such stunning beauty be interpreted into something so destructive. and fyi, i am not a religious person AT ALL
The black man and woman together is God. All praise be to God, the creator of things. All praise be the divine architect of all things. May the creation give honor to the creator.
Does anyone know who set this imagery to the song? It is not only one of the most transcendent pieces of music I’ve ever heard, but the architecture in the video is mind-bendingly spectacular. Combined, they make my imagination go wild! It doesn’t matter how many times I watch/hear this. I always wonder who put the two together.
I remember hearing this for the first time back in 1970 It stuck with me all these years. It was at that time I decided to play the saxophone. I wanted to feel that spiritual essence. This would be and still is my chosen method to express my spiritual side. I want to thank the jazz mobile workshop in NYC for teaching the theory to be able to do that,
oh for perfect audio - my whole life since hearing this album's title in a honeymooners episode thought Kramden was saying hamada hamada hamada.. now the dots are finally joined up!!
+Corey Vaughn Yep its strange Im a Nujabes fan and am searching for jazz i like. I started with Yuoseff Lateef and seem to keep on descovering Nujabes samples. Are there any other artists you would recommend with a similar vibe Nujabes Sampled or not.
It's the circle of fifths. The left hand plays F#sus9, right plays C#sus9. You shift down a step, and then another step, and then back up a step. The song cycles in a pattern like this: A B C B; A B C B. P.S. The chords are just fifths originating from the bass note up six notes. It can also be seen as two extended sus2 chords. Hope this helps.
+Friday the Thirteenth ...the manner in which you pose your question is completely disrespectful...he is doing something your soul is obviously not ready to receive....and that is unfortunate for you...jb
Then you have no capacity to love God, therefore no capacity to truly love anything in this material emanation from the Creator. I am not a Muslim, and that is ALL I get from this music, devotion to God, a Love Supreme.
Pharoah is now beyond-thanks for everything you beautiful man.

All people come from Africa and the African woman
This is an amazing tune, I first had heard in the 80's it and I touched my heart, hearing it again, it still has the same impact. Peace to all.

I've always loved this tune, and the accompanying photographs just made it all the better!! Absolutely beautiful!!!!!

i once saw him play live and during the gig his eyes lit up and he took the sax away from his mouth and keep playing it. he was playing notes by magic it was amazing the audience gasped and he just kept playing like it was just normal.
If a lion could play the saxaphone it would sound like Pharaoh. The power and the heart. The roar and purr.
Truth and love triumph over all!
Nothing like this anywhere else. Simply the most inspired and inspiring music I know of!
RIP Pharaoh.
Great piece of music. And some very nice mosques.

Yes built over a Christian church in a Christian city called Byzantium invaded by the religion of peace .
Peace, love...be greater than you are. Arms open welcoming rather than in fists. Be greater...peace and love.

+Friday the Thirteenth ...the manner in which you pose your question is completely disrespectful...he is doing something your soul is obviously not ready to receive....and that is unfortunate for you...jb
JayBeeBass
Sorry, but I don't particularly WANT my soul to be ready for someone sticking an air pump up a brass instrument's mouthpiece.
+Friday the Thirteenth Get out of town dip-shit!!!
+Friday the Thirteenth sometimes you make love gently, at other times roughly. it's all good when it's done with love, respect and passion.
Coos Oorlog Yeah, but you still stop when she says no.
GOD BLESS YOU ALL JESUS IS KING AND THE ALPHA AND THE OMEGA THE BEGINNING AND THE END IN JESUS NAME AMEN

please no name calling on here, thankx
Excellent song, although many of those images are from civilizations/monuments that were destroyed by Islam so it's a bit contradictory.
MC brain
=)))))))))) ..... g-zus...
All religions come from the original man/woman. The African woman/man.
You mean in ancient Mesopotamia where the rivers meet as told in the holy Bible.
at 10:30 ISIS blow the tune .... Damn it
Pharaoh sounded like lava coming out of a volcano and then he sounded like a powerful rain storm.
" um alla eyyyyeyeee *voice crack*" "ooooloolooolooooloooloooo *weird noise* ooooloolooolooooloooloooo"
Fred Branston too bad. Fred its jazz
lol the singing sounds stupid! that's why I like it!

Gimme a bad taste.
