The best line in the film is "That won't stop me from trying." Wouldn't surprise me if Henry Cavill ad-libbed that line because it doesn't fit with the rest of writing.

Superman is a symbol of hope and kindness you disgusting edgelord. He saves lives because he is an all around good guy. Despite being an alien he is the most human of all. And he gets his morals from his earth parents. Jonathan Clark in man of steel doesn't care about Clark or if he is happy, he only cares about Clark's powers. The movie is full of dogshit writing and character assassination for Johnathan Clark and full of plot holes. He is extremely reckless with his powers. He acts like a 14 year old edgelord.
i wouldn't say he's perfect. His Clark Kent wasn't very convincing. You could blame that on Snyder if you want, but you can't call Cavill perfect by any means.
And this, I'll say it again, is why i love the Superman and Lois version so much. Hes just some wholesome dude from Kansas in that show. You get scenes of him putting out forest fires, saving random people. He feels like Comic Clark
This is a terrible summary of WHY his Superman/Clark Kent is such a good character, and frankly just says a lot about all you value in the character Tyler’s Superman is fantastic *because* he’s not just some wholesome twit, but a deeply flawed and fleshed out character, on top of the fact his wholesome goody two shoes traits are also depicted as having major consequences to the world and those around him It is one of the few iterations where they actually depict them as three dimensional
One thing that has always been consistent is that Clark has always cared about collateral damage. The whole fact bvs happens is why this superman is a pure character assassination. The fact that you don't see that says more about Snyder fanboys than anything.
Is that why Superman made sure the city was evacuated anytime he fought someone in the cartoons and comics? Oh wait. He doesn’t. I forgot he always takes them to a remote area to fight. Oh wait. That’s Goku. 🤷🏽♂️
@bofawhatsbofa4593 no, That's why while doomsday was ravishing metropolis, superman was still trying to fly in move people out of the danger while getting his but kicked by doomsday. And yes his first attempt was to get doomsday away from populated areas.

Great video! The fact of the matter is that Zach Snyder never believed in Superman's core character. He was quoted in an interview as saying that Superman was "too earnest". Many of his fans defended Man of Steel by saying that the "big blue Boy Scout Superman" wasn't realistic or believable and wouldn't play well on film. Marvel Studios disproved that theory with Captain America.

@@Anshumansahu23 To be fair, "Snyderman" didn't do all that much about protecting or saving people during his battle with Zod. He never tried to move the battle outside of Metropolis and was arguably culpable for the mass destruction and death. The fact is that Snyder never believed that anyone could be as wholesome or earnest as Superman and said as much. He deconstructed the character, changed his upbringing and made him an outcast so that he would fit into the much darker and dour version that we saw in Man of Steel, BvS and JL. We'll just have to agree to disagree but in my honest opinion the film Brightburn did a much better job of presenting a dark and scary version of the Superman origin story.

Zack Snyder also very knowingly quote Superman comic by very same writer in which he snaps Zod's neck, which happens AFTER that comics comics (Action Comics 805). Besides, you can tell what Man of Steel was going for in the beginning, and the story it was supposed to unfold during it's supposed trilogy. You can see snippets of it in BvS. The world is realistic, and they introduced Superman as a catalyst of change. First was the destruction of krypton, shadowing what to come if Earth was to continue in its trajectory. Then we are showed both ideologies, a fearful human, and a wishful thinking kryptonian. Both enlightening our protagonist's mind, and ultimately leading him to his final decision. With all his powers he chose to put his life on the hands of those that persecuted him, willing to betray him for their life. How biblical. This showed in both movies, where he gave himself up to the army and the court--and was supposed to break humanity's mind and follow his lead in Justice League. Because when he died, they would realize that they actually needed him, and that their fear of him was unwarranted. But... whiny people--you know? Clark:Doesn't save adoptive father from tornado because hiding them is too important(to the point John said "let kids die son!") Also Clark: Destroys a mans truck openly with his power for spilling beer on him on purpose and trying to push him ineffectively.

As someone who is an avid, DC comic reader, it really saddened me to get all of these projects with so many fundamental misunderstandings of how these characters work. Amazing video! I’m really hopeful the James gun will be able to pull it together, but we will see!
Imagine getting an actor who is a near perfect match to the image of Superman as a character and a person, and then pair him with a director who doesn’t get it whatsoever. Forget shooting yourself in the foot, this is the equivalent of shooting yourself in the balls with an assault rifle.

I used to think Man of Steel was decent film was a good starting point for the franchise, but after rewatching it recently it's one of the most unself-aware, incompetent, and pretentious films I think I've ever seen
Yeah, it’s got a lot of problems I had to resist from going too much into that film in this video because this isn’t a review. There are problems with Zods actions contradicting his motivations, there are issues with the powers of the antagonists in general
There is very little issue with this movie. It actually gets better after the 1st watch. Zods character is on point. But toxic haters hunt for issues. I love the 1934 Man of Tomorrow elements used that goes over supposed fans head
This might be an unpopular opinion but I did like what Joss Whedon did with Superman in the theatrical Justice League. He was full of joy, campy, quipped, and actually cared about saving civilians. That’s probably the closest thing we’ll see Cavill Reasonably the Superman we all know.
CG removed moustache aside, way better Superman(and JL)than the extended crapfest Snydercut(which I was glad to learn today would NOT continue the franchise ever again!)
@Erik Kemeey to be fair he still saved people. But Snyder made him reluctant. Turning him into a Randian Reluctant Hero. I know Henry Cavill could pull off Superman if given a proper chance and a better script and director.
You have to remember that Snyder fans keep making basically the same claims about the Snyder verse. This Batman looks like Batman and Superman looks like Superman. Its all about the visuals instead of the characters themselves. Cavill has never played Superman. He looks like Superman but the direction he was given wasn't the character. Same with Batman. When you mess up the Trinity you have already lost and a film with the 3 and you don't break a billion dollars is a problem. The orginal Superman film has some issues but is far better written than Man of Steel. He learns from being raised by humans the right lessons in the orginal film. Lessons he was getting from his dead father in Man of Steel. The issues you raise about Man of Steel are the same issues I had with the writing as well.
Wrong, some Snyder fans like me actually make FACTUAL STATEMENTS about the source accurate notions too. Because unlike most of you I am actually familiar with comics. If you think financial side of things decide what is success then 1) Snyder still wins since only when movies started with Him were successful (Aquaman was filming parallel when JL was still his) 2) all superhero movies are trash since R-rated Deadpool about literally who outdid every single one, especially when we you your math even Avengers 3 and 4 should've make MUCH more money to compare with Deadpool, a development hell made movie that accidentally got finished In Superman The Movie he learns that humans are fragile and will never meet up to him after he forced his dad to run which caused his heart attack. Then reverses time just to save Lois (not even to undo second rocket hit and undo earthquakes). Then he abandons all of his powers so he can have sex with Lois and finally live normal life, if not for the bully at the bar, who he will antagonize (Donner Cut, since it happened after total time reverse of everything that happened after Zod's phantom zone prison break) and beat him up with his powers. Amazing. Meanwhile in SnyderVerse Superman learns how to help people while doing as little damage in process as possible, he doesn't have priviledge of reversing time (yet) and despite many mistakes he still pushes forward and helps everyone he can, even saved Lex from Doomsday afterhe kindpapped and threw Lois from the building, after he had goons kidnap his foster mother and not to mention after all these people he killed before that. And original Superman by Siegel could very well just let him die, wouldn't be out of character at all.

In the Snyder verse they destroyed smallville and metropolis. But I didn't hold that against the film. In the orginal movie Superman was helping people the whole time. In the Snyder film Superman was helping people the whole time but he learned a very different lesson in the Snyder verse than in any other version including the comics from his human parents. Remember when Johnathan Kent told him he should have let those people die to protect who he is. While his Kryptonain father said he is to be the beacon of hope. His human mother told him to do what you want because you don't owe these people anything. His human father sacrificed his own life to give Clark the less of hiding. Aquaman 1.148 billion dollars and Snyder didn't do that film. Batman v Superman earned 872.7 million and Snyder did do that film. A movie with the Trinity is out performed by Aquaman. Really my guy? No the bully didn't beat him up with his powers in Superman the movie. Are you sure you were paying attention to the film? Yes he gives up his powers to be with Lois. He regains them when he finds out about the threat of Zod. Snyder's Superman didn't give up his powers to be with Lois but he is whipped. First piece and he fell in love. 😆 But I don't have a problem with that either. The problem is this moping around non beacon of hope that he doesn't become until Justice League. You all cried about losing Cavill but when the Rock opened the door to bring him back where were you guys? Like I said Batman v Superman should have broken a Billion easy but it didn't. First on screen appearance of Wonder Woman. First on screen appearance of Superman and Batman together. All 3 together and it loses to Aquaman. Snyder decided to skip character development because you all read the comics and he wasted the death of Superman, one of DC's iconic stories. Much in the way fox wasted the phoenix story twice. Yeah you know comics and I don't. 😆 🤣 I wouldn't have said that. Snyder reads the books he just poorly executed the use of his knowledge and mashed things together that he liked. Many fans of the comics, who out number you Snyder fans left the theaters with one question on their minds. Does this guy understand these characters? In the books Batman has plans for his plans. I know that Superman post-Crisis had constant issues of anxiety brought on about by Imposter Syndrome quite a bit. I know that he is horrified in the comics at the prospect that every night when he is sleeping, that somewhere in the world in his dreams he can hear people dying and he's not there to save them. Tell me, what do you know about the character that indicates you know him better than me? I'd like to know. And you know who does the things that you do with accusing people of anger issues before they've even displayed any anger whatsoever? People who don't have an argument that holds up to scrutiny. Let's see if yours does. "you're right he's not superman yet and he never will be becuz of the things he does in the movie and because of the way the kents raised him, they didn't teach him good moral values that molded him into the boy scout we all know and love" Wtf are you talking about? They teach him restraint in his abilities. Theirs even a scene where Clark is getting bullied and he wants to fight back but he doesn't because they could get hurt. He then talks to Johnathan and there is a little exchange of the type of morality that Clark has. Now, clearly there are flaws with his intake of this, such as destroying the Trucker's rig and such. But it is literally portrayed as wrong by the man's reactions as well as the ominous music that plays. The memory sequence also tells us why its wrong in a more overt manner. It seems like you don't know wtf you're talking about. "instead they teach him to be afraid of the world, to not use your powers to help people and do as much good in the world as possible" Um... no, that is not what they teach him. Johnathan Kent was telling Clark that the world is a dangerous place, with people filled with bigotry and are hard to accept truth when it is staring them in front of their face. He tells Clark this because he believes Clark has the ability to help the Human species, that he is not only their answer, but with what he can do, he can be their guardian. He is literally told that because of this great burden, he says that it is Clark's choice whether this burden is something he wants. This is the point where Johnathan is telling his son to use his powers to save people, to do good by the world but most importantly, to be a symbol for people to strive for. You clearly did not pay attention and you were just interested in tweeting reactions out. I'm not going to bother addressing anything else, its clear you either didn't watch the movie or you just didn't pay attention.
@@voiceofreason467 Oh I saw the film alright, and it was a waste of money to see a guy pretend to be superman, Clark doesn't leave people to die if he can help it, Clark's parents don't teach him restraint, if they did he wouldn't have destroyed that guys truck or killed zod, or fly zod through a factory and 7 eleven out of anger, This isn't superman, his mom tells him in BVS that its perfectly fine to drop his responsibility as a hero becuz the world is mean This Is not Superman or his world, trying to put Clark in a realistic environment is stupid, its the wrong approach for Superman, you can't turn an aspirational hero into a cathartic hero like Spiderman, aspirational heroes set the standard, Clark doesn't need to go through this journey of "self discovery" or learn how to be a hero or know what the right thing to do is, he just knows it becuz he was raised right, and he learns nothing from Pa Kents death, becuz guess what he goes out and exposes himself to the world anyways, Pa Kent died for nothing in this film, theres no meaningful lesson this superman teaches, he doesn't actually grow or have character development its no surprise to me that he turns evil in this post apocalyptic world in ZSJL

Snyder absolutely did not understand the characters. He even less appreciated them. I think the biggest sign of that was when some fans told him that they didn't like the idea of Superman or Batman killing, and he told them to "grow up". These were characters with established morals and loved by the world before he was even born. If you can't appreciate that and respect it, you shouldn't be in charge of representing them.
Here’s the thing: I still think Henry is a great casting choice. Maybe it’s because I love him but I think that if Superman was more faithfully written, he would have been great. I hold the same sentiment regarding Grant Gustin as Barry.
Your approach to arguing your point is very scholar, you don't simply state an opinion, but also back it up with relative clips. This form is sorely missing in most TH-cam reviews.
Yeah I agree with some of the stuff he said but he said to me that S has nothing to do with him being kryptonian when it’s his family crest and has been since the 80s when I pointed this out to him he didn’t reply. what I’m trying to say is as much as I love the animated series it doesn’t always mean it follows the Superman canon and this guy only references the animated series and not the comics,so he isn’t going to the source.
I'm reminded of the animated episode _The Late Mr. Kent_ where Superman spends a lot of the episode struggling with what to do when he gets "killed" as himself, and revealing that he's alive would reveal he's Superman, but also an innocent man will be executed if the evidence that Clark had gotten is not brought to light. Thing is, Clark is _never_ going to just let the man die, he just tries to find other ways around the problem while he still has time, and when it comes down to the wire, Clark is ready to reveal his identity if it means saving even just one man. When he can't stop the execution in time though even then, he busts into the chamber and physically saves the man from execution. THAT is who Superman is, not this _Man of Steel_ mockery. Superman might not be able to save everyone, but he will ALWAYS _try_ no matter what.
There are so many parallels you can draw between the media and their creators. I know I keep saying this over and over again, but Snyder fans are just TLJ defenders. when people can't stand their sacred cow being criticised its the exact same defences and responses. over and over.
When you have hundreds if not an infinite number of different iterations of a character exist across an infinite Multiverse who can say what Depiction is truly "accurate"?
James Gun making new superman movie taking inspiration from comics like All stars Superman, and we might see Superman vs The authority in future (similar to superman vs the elite). I am so happy Zack is gone. Your thoughts?
I do agree with the argument of this video that Zack Snyder's interpretation of Superman isn't true to who Superman is and what he stands for. I honestly don't think Zack Snyder understands Superman and I don't think that he ever will, especially after the Snyder cut. This video is a good video that shows real understanding of who Superman is and what he stands for.
@@zhengyingli how is changing Superman into a selfish hero a sign of understanding Superman? It's literally a sign of the opposite; Zack Snyder not understanding Superman. Making Superman a selfish hero goes against everything Superman is and everything Superman stands for. It's totally disrespectful to Superman in general.
@Erik Kemeey if you want a more recent example of Superman that demonstrates the ideals, values, integrity, and humanity of Superman, check out Tyler Hoechlin's portrayal of Superman, especially in the series Superman and Lois. He does Superman right, unlike Zack Snyder's interpretation of Superman, which does Superman wrong.
Fantastic review and totally clarified my reasoning to why i always thought Bryan Singer's Superman was better than the Snyder Superman (dont worry, Reeves is still my fav). The one scene with the odd lip 😂 where Cavill's Supes is asked what he thinks about our world and remains silent was like a major WTF moment for me. That's when I started to hate the guy 😠
It strikes me so odd that Zack Snyder went out of his way to try and interpret superman outside the fantasy and place him in a real world environment having to logically explain the existence of a superman without any consistency or compelling story. If we are playing by the rules of reality, superman has more muscle mass than Faora the kryptonian chick so he should easily outmatch her with strength where she would outmatch him with speed and Zod should outmatch him with skill and the other guy who we never got a good look at should outmatch him with strength. Also, super beings punching super beings should if we are to follow logic, cause damage to each other no deferent than normal people fighting. Where are the black eyes, the fat lips, the broken arms, the broken neck? Wait....where's the consistency... And how does an inexperienced superman get a trained general in a headlock? Did Clark join the military? Where did he get his training? And where is the back story of how Superman fell in love with Louis they are all of a sudden, a couple is Zack Snyder, an amateur?
I am convinced that Zach Snyder hates what Superman stands for. Superman as a symbol of hope. Superman as a savior. There's lip-service to those things: "on my planet it means hope", the Jesus-imagery, "you must give the people something to strive for". But this movie was all about tearing those things down. In this film, Kal-El isn't a savior. As a child he asks "should I have let them die", and as an adult he lets them die. The destruction porn, the nihilistic destruction of Metropolis and Smallville. Even the petty act of destroying the big-rig. It's all in service to the message: if Superman existed, he'd be an agent of destruction.
There was 1 scene in this movie where zod slid a gas truck right at him he flys in the air jumping over it all for a superman hero pose meanwhile the truck hits the building and explodes behind him 😂😂😂 thats NOT superman ,cavil himself is superman any other writer would've done him justice
Ah, the perplexing transformation of Superman from the paragon of goodness to a brooding, stressy-depressy figure - a shift that left even a non-diehard superhero aficionado like myself scratching their head. Superman, for me, has always embodied pure, unadulterated goodness, standing in stark contrast to the gritty demeanor of Batman. Yet, in this era of gritty reboots, it seems everyone, including the Man of Steel, is getting a gritty makeover. How utterly... nonsensical. Then why stop there? Let’s make Wonder Woman into a “Gone Girl”psychopath since we are on a roll here. The Snyder cut of Justice League did manage to capture the essence of my favorite superheroes coming together in all their glory, a sight to behold indeed. However, let's address the elephant in the room - why the need to turn Superman into a potential Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders? Even in the original Justice League, the one that aimed to showcase the “ lighter side “epic tale of their unity, they couldn't resist portraying Superman as a looming, intimidating figure. Sure, the whole "he didn't know who he was" excuse fits the bill for a larger-than-life character, but did they have to make him look downright scary? I found myself tiptoeing around whenever Superman graced the screen, unsure if he was about to unleash his inner sociopath on his mom or girlfriend. The supposed beacon of virtue and "goody toe shoes" had me on edge, fearing what twisted turn his character might take next. Call me old-fashioned, but I never signed up for a Superman-induced anxiety trip. Give me the Superman of yesteryears, the one who embodied hope and unwavering goodness, not this brooding enigma with a potential dark side.- that’s wtf we have Batman for. I concur with your assessment!
Superman stand for Hope, but I don't see any hope in the DCEU version, such a bad adaptation ever, even CW execute it much more better, I don't get the stupid praises for this superman and dumb Zack snysh*t
If superman was always a sadist like Zack synder makes him I highly doubt his historical impact would be nearly as massive as it is today from rallying the moral of the allied troops (not just Americans but most allied troops Canadian, british etc) up to becoming one of the most famous pop culture icons in all of human history its that joy and hope and happiness he spreads that makes him so valuable and iconic
I think Rian Johnson actually understands Luke Skywalker better than how Zack Snyder understands Superman. A deconstruction of a character only works after they've been constructed.
Rian Johnson assassinated Luke's character. Luke went from saving his father who killed countless lifeforms to attempting to kill his nephew when he has visions of him being the next dark lord(which he did became).
@VJ BD someone didn't pay attention to the movie According to Ben, he tried to kill him, saber ignited in front of him while he slept, but Luke only gave it a single THOUGHT and turned off his saber before Ben thought he was there to kill him and attacked him
This is a good point. The only counter point is that Man of Steel was written by David Goyer -- the same person who helped Nolan write the Dark Knight trilogy -- who undoubtedly knows & understands most of Superman lore. Of course he had to bend the story to Zack Snyder's vision. To me, at first watch, the depiction of Supes in MoS felt more like a flattening of his character into a playing piece/action figure to support a story about Gods vs Men. And that's never been a particularly gripping aspect of his appeal & stories.
Great critique. I don’t read comics but I grew up on the Christopher Reeve version of Superman. Those movies were corny, but they nailed Clark’s goodness and his deep sense of morality and family. I remember watching Man of Steel and being so so disappointed. I hope the next incarnation will be closer to the Clark we know and love. Though it is heartbreaking that Henry Cavill was (mostly) wasted!!
Henry Cavil and Andrew Garfield are my two favorite actors for comic book movies. Sadly both were robbed of their great casting with bad writing and directing
Am glad you have no problem against Henry Cavill. I really liked him being Superman. Henry Cavill should played Superman but Zack Snyder shouldn't have directed the movie.
Thank God for the new Superman and Lois cartoon on HBO. This Superman cartoon were such a surprise to me! I have been a life-long Superman fan since my childhood in Nigeria and I love this! This version of Lois was also another surprise. She is a gonzo journalist and strong female without any feminist nonsense and she looks attractive. Clark is heroic, lovable, and not a cynical evil "realistic" character like Snyder kept making him. It's like westerners actually decided to make a good Super hero show devoid of toxic identity politics, with great characters a d writing and also a positive masculine character and feminine character😯👍
Zack Synder had a place in the DCEU, it just shouldn't have been the head of it. Something like an alternate injustice universe, and I'm sure he'd have done well there, people would love those movies.
0:47 It would be more accurate to say that many people thought Man of Steel was great. I don't know anyone who thinks BvS was better than a disappointment. Mostly people wanted the Snyder cut because Whedon's version was so awful it made BvS look like a masterpiece in comparison.
I have heard a lot of Snyder Fans say Batman VS Superman is perfect and amazing. I have had enough of them screaming at me on twitter to know that a vast majority of the snyder fans defend it.
Thank you. So many points in there that I myself have been questioning for years. I'm glad you noticed the whole issue with "I found my people" line. It was so weird. Why does he refer to them as his people when he's been living on Earth all his life? And also, that scene is so stupid as he is so vague and doesn't go into any detail...it just becomes an opportunity for Martha to have a nice big monologue. If that wasn't the best example of a time for Clark to have a monologue, I don't know what else is. Which sheds light on how the writers and creative team behind the film felt about Superman. He's not worthy of even having a say in his own story.
I mean this was something also in Silver Age, Smallville and modern age comics. Clark may have been raised among and by humans, but he grew up with his powers and not knowing who he really is. That’s why he was excited to see people like Krypto, Supergirl (his cousin) , Kandor or even the Legion of Superheroes, he gets to meet people like him, who knows who he is and can relate to him. It’s a moment of joy where he isn’t alone and doesn’t feel like an outsider. It’s not him hating humanity or earth, it’s a moment where he can find some people he can relate to
“Someone says to me: ‘[Ben Affleck’s] Batman killed a guy,’” Snyder said, “I’m like, ‘Fuck, really? Wake the fuck up.’ Once you’ve lost your virginity to this fucking movie and then you come and say to me something about, like, ‘My superhero wouldn’t do that,’ I’m like, ‘Are you serious?’ I’m, like, down the fucking road on that. It’s a cool point of view to be like, ‘My heroes are still innocent. My heroes didn’t fucking lie to America. My heroes didn’t embezzle money from their corporations. My heroes didn’t commit any atrocities.’ That’s cool. But you’re living in a fucking dream world." Zack Snyder is a no talent hack that doesn't have a clue about superheroes.
Okay, you want to know how i reboot the DCEU? I start with Synder righting who he Reallyw anted to write: the Elite. Then we have a film were Superman fights them and decontrcuts it. Not by Syder of course
@@honestkyn718 That would be a great rebuttal to Snyder's moronic view on superheroes. Make sure to have Henry Cavil playing true, happy, optimistic, Superman in the deconstruction movie.
great vid - It's like they found the perfect actor to play Superman, Love Cavill, but the writers were writing for Batman? Explanation is this one is a variant! When I first saw "In the Pale Moonlight" it instantly catapulted into my top 5 episode of any Trek series. Loved the reference. Perfect
Whats also stupid is because there is no setup for zod being a villian, he goes from someone leading a revolution against a government that led his planet to destruction to someone willing to commit genocide for some reason even though he could make a new krypton on another planet
I've been saying for years that man of steel is a TERRIBLE Superman movie. Superman's personality is a wooden plank and does not give a shit about human lives at all.
Yeah, what makes Superman...well Superman, isn't his powers, is what he represents, he's the symbol of hope, Snyder's superman is literally Zod wannable
I remeber seeing the first iron man movie. how it took a man, and turned him into a hero. made him realize his life wasnt just worth living, but worth fighting for. that his ethics were worth more than the bottom line(wrapped up in the second movie). but with man of steel... we dont see a man, shit we didnt even get a boy. we dont see him become superman. he kinda already is. we dont see him turn a new leaf, or make the hard choices, or go through deep and immese struggle that makes him have to choose. he just goes on and does stuff. hes the most passive protaginist in any superhero movie ive watched. and that says a lot since Dr.Strange is literally 1 big training montage.
cavill wanted to play as traditional superman over snyder's edgy man of steel in fact cavill picked josh whedon's justice league over synder's justice league bcuz whedon actually allowed him to play superman and cavill said when talking about man of steel 2 that he wanted to go back to being traditional superman, so i don't blame cavill at all i blame snyder for the direction not only to superman but all of the characters bcuz he only read from frank miller and made every character dark and edgy like batman even batman never even felt like batman and snyder believe that batman should be a killer. race swap aquaman turn into a dude bro biker i just finish watching Justice League: Throne of Atlantis not only it was faithful to the character and source material but it told a origin story without disrespecting and race swapping the character and the movie work. thank god i'm no longer feel like i'm the only one that felt this way. the whole depiction of snyderverse is bad. the only thing i'm still mad about is DCEU wasted Michael Keaton's comeback on this trash universe and even wasting sasha calle's supergirl debut. that's the one thing that i still can't get over with. personally i was never a fan of the alot of the casting even Jesse Eisenberg is the worst live action lex luthor of all time. it was so bad that it made me go back and appreciate all of the other live action and animated versions of Lex luthor. it takes alot of heart, balls and passion to put a video like out without getting harassed by the snyder cultist.
I've only read one superman comic (all star superman) and even I know that this isn't how superman should be. I just can't understand how Snyder fans are so insistent that an emotionless non-character is what superman should be.
A character doesn’t need to have trauma or dead parents to be interesting, what makes superman interesting is his devotion to wanting to do the right thing, that no matter how many times he can save a cat from a tree or people from a burning building, he can’t save everyone
I mean to be fair Clark lost an entire planet and a good portion of his existence as a character (58 of his 87 years of existence), Jonathan and/or Martha Kent were dead right before Clark became Superman. But it wasn’t trauma that caused him to be Superman, just wanting to do the right thing and help people wherever he can. He isn’t a character defined by tragedy but someone who overcomes tragedy and believes you can do the impossible and make it possible. That what makes him hopeful.
Great video! I hate the snyderverse its soo bad. Its funny how Invincible does the whole civilian casualtys WAY better. Not everyone will agree but I thought Matt Reeves Batman understood the character way better than any other batman movie. It even did the destruction of the city better (with the flood or riddlers "cleansing" of gotham). James Gunn superman cant possibly be as bad as or even worse than this. Hopefully its good.
It took superman decades to get his powers but the Kryptonians are FULL power immediately. A smarter writer would have had it so that the kryptonians were weaker but because there was a lot of them he has to fight them all and save innocent people at the same time. That shiuld be the struggle.
i have not watched this yet, just getting started, but Chrisopher reeve played the most completely TRUE superman. zack snyder's was too dark almost like they were tryign to mak ehim batman
25:30 That might’ve been the most beautifully articulate explanation of why Batman doesn’t kill that I’ve ever heard in my life thus far. “The orphan doesn’t want to make more orphans.”
I 100% Agree And I Got Admit It's Like Joel Schumacer Understood Batman More As He Wanted To Always Create A Darker Batman Film Than Zack Snyder Understands Anything DC And I Am Not Even A Huge DC Fan And I Feel Sorry For Henry Cavill For Having His First Superman Role Be Under A Incompetent And Stupid Director Who Dosen't Understand Anything About DC
So The thing is honestly this is a Superman who is fundamentally inhuman. He wants to be more connected with the alien side of himself; he wants to be kryptonian. He also seems to be oddly... well, sociopathy. He doesn't really care about anyone aside from people who know them. He's a what-if really; what if the Kents were unable to handle what i means to raise a superman as a human... instead he's just a monster...
@@zhengyingli Shame this Kal-El is more of a Kryptonian, openly disreguarding the fact he was raised by humans... not to meniton his own father castiagitng him for DARING TO RESCUE CHILDREN
@@honestkyn718 Jonathan just didn't want Clark risk his secrets getting out until he's ready. It's no different than in the comics. Clark is very human in Snyder's movies, which even you admit to when you know that Superman cares more about his close ones than others.
YES, this is the video I have been looking for. And I want to rant, too, so read it if you want. Growing up, being bullied and having little friends at school, watching the TV and seeing Superman and the Justice League and reading the comics changed my outlook in life. Superman, especially, was my favorite, surprisingly not Batman. A symbol of hope, sticks up for the underdog, saves lives. But most importantly, he is from Earth, who grew up at a home, had parents, went to school, yadda yadda. He gets excited when he visits his mom and dad, he's awkward around women like Lois, he is super friendly to people like Kara and Jimmy Olsen, and most of all, he is an optimist. Looking at the bright side of things, never even thinks about arguing with his parents or authorities, and gives others a chance to know him better. That's why Batman and the League respects him, that's why Metropolis loves him, not what he does in MOS or BvS. He is Kryptonian, but above all else he is human. Superman is not my favorite character now because of these Hollywood movies, and that's sad to me. His animated versions, like in Allstar, DCAMU, The Elite, and yes, TAS and JL/JLU have been done better. Heck, that one scene in Superman Returns where he lifts a freaking island full of Kryptonite had me more inspired than the new movies. Many of the Superman stories I wanted to see done in live action, like a proper adaptation of Death of Superman or Allstar Superman, will likely be imossible now due to success of the Snyderverse. You are right, Marvel had them beat in the movie department. Watching DC movies, it just has good scenes, but not a lot of good everything. Warehouse scene, Big Three vs Doomsday scene, armies vs Steppenwolf scene, 7 facing Darkseid scene, I just skip to those. Why waste time trying to slog through the whole movie. WW, Shazam, Aquaman, and 2021 Suicide Squad are the only ones I can watch and finish. People do call him Superman, but he is not Superman. Or to phrase it better, not the Superman I know. The Superman we have now is a nihilist named Kal El, who occasionally calls himself Clark, who is petty, edgy, let his dad die, destroyed a small town and a city, and is a simp who calls Lois his 'world'. The Superman I know is an average guy named Clark Kent, who loves his family, calls his teammates friends, and loves not just Lois, but also the world, the people, and will fight for those people. He inspired me to admire heroes, to hope, as he probably did for others.
Reading that second part, I'm surprised you think this way of Snyderverse Clark Kent. He really is not a nihilist. The dude is a genuinely good guy who just wants to help out and save people. He's altrustic, stands up for what is right, sticks to his ideals and morals, and even is willing to sacrifice himself. I would recommend watching Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman
I liked the fight with Zod, as for the destruction it was a bit much BUT, I feel like the destruction would’ve been warranted IF the bad guys were directing the fight towards the cities and Superman was trying to get away, the bad guys were the ones that purposely threw him around the city and through skyscrapers.…..not to mention Superman should’ve went out of his way to save way more pple his whole character is he’d rather die than not try and save someone….maybe make him use his super speed to save a bunch of pple before a building fell on them or something idk
@Erik Kemeey No he didn't. Zod took *SUPERMAN* into space. Watch the scene. Zod knocks Superman through a row of buildings. Then when superman tries to orient himself when he passes through the last building, Zod grabs Superman and drags him straight up into orbit. Superman throws Zod off of him while they are in orbit, and Zod has to dig his hands into the Wayne Tech satellite to keep from flying off into space. He then throws the satellite at Superman and flies through it for a sneak attack, Superman manages to catch Zod and starts punching the crap out of him while they freefall to Earth. Yes, I said freefall because there's no way in hell either of them are aiming for any location in particular; they are too busy trying to gain the upper hand in the fight. Despite the fact that the Earth's rotation would place them miles away from Metropolis (and possibly into a new city Zod could attack), they somehow end up falling back in Metropolis anyway. Superman is apparently winning at this point because he has a firm grip on Zod and is in an attack position while they fall into Metropolis and into the building prior to the family and the neck snap.
@Erik Kemeey Nope, it was Zod who took Superman into space. Watch the scene from 1:00 to about 1:22 It is just as I described the scene. Zod threw Superman through a row of buildings. Superman tries to orient himself after coming out of the last building. Zod suddenly grabs him and takes him straight up into space. Superman then flips him off and Zod grabs the satellite to keep from flying off into space. Here's the proof. www. youtube. com/watch?v=06Qm8cKJ-jo Take the spaces out of the link.
As Smallville points out: The suit doesn't make the hero, a hero is made in the moment by the decisions he makes and the reason that he makes them. Hell they even mention Nietzsche about the concept of an Ubermensch as a person who embraced the life he/she was given and Chose to make it better or someone who could Overcome Nihilism and create New values. Zach snyder didn't understand anything about what Superman is was and what Nietzsche meant. And anyone who uses "the Reign of superman"(1933) which was about a telepathic VILLIAN bill dunn bent on World domination after a scientist offers him the potion that gives him his power as then proceeds to kill said scientist for the formula" and calls man of steel "Comic accurate" Superman because it's Realistic and dark doesn't understand That how can people have an idea to strive towards through a man is Just exactly like us. It's like saying theirs nothing wrong with Humanity as a Species when we are so uncaring about our fellow man that goes against everything about Jesus Christ (despite all the jesus imagery in MoS) as a "savior". Also people who use the "Man of steel is comic Accurate" and source "the Reign of Superman(1933) when the characters in Action comic #1 (1937) and "the reign of Superman"(1933) are Totally different.
Ultimately the problem is, this superman going down the road to injustice superman wouldn't be that dramatic a shift. This superman just isn't that good a person
@suganthram7767 no. It's not wrong to write him flawed. But it's the type of flaws that are important. We never saw this superman go out of his way to save the innocent bystander that gets caught up in the damage from his fight. That's crucial for who superman is as a core character. Oblivious to the damage he helps create is not a flaw that makes superman at all. Smallville showed a very flawed superman, but his core character wanted to save everyone and when people were endangered by his own actions it caused him a tremendous amount of pain.
I know. I was going to go over batman however they did superman SO much more dirty and I think while a lot of people have already commented on Batman in the DCEU I don't think as many people have talked about how badly they messed up superman.

Okay, being as generous as possible... I suppose I see what they were going for, in theory, with this Superman. The idea of Superman being an alien by blood but raised by humans, and this movie being where he fully accepts Earth as his home and himself as Superman, defender of humanity and upholder of truth, justice, and the American Way. However, it fails horribly, for the reasons you laid out here (Plus, he feels bad about killing Zod, yet he had already accepted Krypton as gone? "Krypton had its chance" anyone?). And there are much better ways of telling this kind of "blood isn't everything" story, with much better characters to tell it. (edited for grammar tisms)
The best line in the film is "That won't stop me from trying." Wouldn't surprise me if Henry Cavill ad-libbed that line because it doesn't fit with the rest of writing.

If you think financial side of things decide what is success then 1) Snyder still wins since only when movies started with Him were successful (Aquaman was filming parallel when JL was still his) 2) all superhero movies are trash since R-rated Deadpool about literally who outdid every single one, especially when we you your math even Avengers 3 and 4 should've make MUCH more money to compare with Deadpool, a development hell made movie that accidentally got finished
In Superman The Movie he learns that humans are fragile and will never meet up to him after he forced his dad to run which caused his heart attack.
No he didn't force his dad to run. That would have happened to a human kid. He learned that no matter how powerful he is or what he can do he can't save everyone. He literally says that in the film.
Wow you literally are trying to give him credit for films he had nothing to do with and they out performed his films. Here's a fun fact for you. Man of Steel with a iconic character that the entire world knows, earned 219 million while Deadpool a character that is far from Superman status earned 700 million.
But if you think that was very Superman to allow Jonathan to sacrifice himself by letting a tornado suck him up then that's you. I don't recall that in the comics or any other story line Mr factual. As a comic fan we know why Superman is wearing the Black suit but anyone who hasn't read the comics doesn't. It's not explained in a 4 hour movie so in his universe it's just a fashion statement.
Also you all knowing comic book Snyder fans didn't show up or aren't enough of you to keep that universe going. Yet Snyder's Batman just wings it and hopes for the best. He had no plan to deal with Superman when they brought him back to life. In the comics he wasn't actually dead by the way. At least Whedon gave that to Batman.

In Superman two,3 astronauts died on the moon that were killed by the 3 Kryptonains and had nothing to do with the fight between Superman and them. 4 soliders,2 killed by Zod when he shot them and 2 Blown up by Ursa. Great Video! the arguments defending Zack's "superman" don't hold up, they got the parents wrong, they got Clark's motivations and personality completely wrong, he has no chemistry with Lois, Clark does nothing to help as many people from being killed in the final battle, and Clark would never just stand by as his father is swept off in a tornado, Clark would've gone after him even if he didn't have those powers, the Powers don't make him superman, its how he chooses to use those powers and what he chooses not to do with those powers, he would be as good of a person and strive to do as much good in the world with or without those powers, Power can't make you good or bad, and don't get me started on the horrible mishandling of the Batfleck, Wonder Woman, and now Martian Manhunter, the simple fact of J'onn being that General destroys that character and makes him a coward who just stands by when he could be helping civilians
Oh look, someone who prefers a Superman already completely fully developed into who he is, already has the ability and experience to reduce massive amounts of property damage, already has a dynamic relationship with Lois Lane, etc...
Meanwhile, the actual movie itself shows that this is not that Superman yet... and all you can do is say, "BUT I WANT THAT SUPERMAN! I WANT HIM! I WANT HIM NOW!"
You know, people say "the arguments defending Zack's Superman don't hold up..." yet all I can hear are critiques about how you wanted a Superman already fully realized in terms of personality just thrown on the screen. You don't want to know how he gets there. You complain about his first actual fight ever, you complain about mistakes he's going to have to make and learn from and you complain about exploring the psychology of Superman growing up on earth.
It sounds like you didn't even understand the point of Zack's Superman, so you decided it wasn't Superman. Great logic there.

Also, that is funny that I don't understand Superman. I mean, I've read Kingdom Come, All-Star Superman, Superman Red Son, John Byrne's Man of Steel (which btw, is the very basis for Zack's depiction of MoS, maybe you should read the comics instead of having preconcieved pop culture notions of Superman).
"you're right he's not superman yet and he never will be becuz of the things he does in the movie and because of the way the kents raised him, they didn't teach him good moral values that molded him into the boy scout we all know and love"
Wtf are you talking about? They teach him restraint in his abilities. Theirs even a scene where Clark is getting bullied and he wants to fight back but he doesn't because they could get hurt. He then talks to Johnathan and there is a little exchange of the type of morality that Clark has. Now, clearly there are flaws with his intake of this, such as destroying the Trucker's rig and such. But it is literally portrayed as wrong by the man's reactions as well as the ominous music that plays. The memory sequence also tells us why its wrong in a more overt manner.
It seems like you don't know wtf you're talking about.
"instead they teach him to be afraid of the world, to not use your powers to help people and do as much good in the world as possible"
Um... no, that is not what they teach him.

This Is not Superman or his world, trying to put Clark in a realistic environment is stupid, its the wrong approach for Superman, you can't turn an aspirational hero into a cathartic hero like Spiderman, aspirational heroes set the standard, Clark doesn't need to go through this journey of "self discovery" or learn how to be a hero or know what the right thing to do is, he just knows it becuz he was raised right, and he learns nothing from Pa Kents death, becuz guess what he goes out and exposes himself to the world anyways, Pa Kent died for nothing in this film, theres no meaningful lesson this superman teaches, he doesn't actually grow or have character development

I think Zack Snyder does understand Superman, which is why he changed him into a selfish hero.
@@zhengyingli how is changing Superman into a selfish hero a sign of understanding Superman? It's literally a sign of the opposite; Zack Snyder not understanding Superman.
Hopefully James G. Is going to to do it right, unlike the monstrosity Snyder caused the character.

@VJ BD someone didn't pay attention to the movie
According to Ben, he tried to kill him, saber ignited in front of him while he slept, but Luke only gave it a single THOUGHT and turned off his saber before Ben thought he was there to kill him and attacked him
This is a good point.

It took superman decades to get his powers but the Kryptonians are FULL power immediately.
A smarter writer would have had it so that the kryptonians were weaker but because there was a lot of them he has to fight them all and save innocent people at the same time. That shiuld be the struggle.
True. At first Superman couldn't fly, only jump really high.
I really wish I caught this when it came out. I looooove thrashing MOS. Please make more videos on the new DCU and Marvel
Genuinely, in terms of destruction, Zack Snyder made Dragon Ball Z the Saiyan saga but with Superman and Zod. And even then it’s still terrible.
i have not watched this yet, just getting started, but Chrisopher reeve played the most completely TRUE superman. zack snyder's was too dark almost like they were tryign to mak ehim batman
Snyder ruined superman. A whole generation grew up thinking THAT was superman. I call henry Cavill's version gladiator man lmao
You mean the Bryne and modern post crisis Superman?
Zack definitely ruined Superman, and never understood the character or what he stands for.
Best different take on Superman , and written and done better:
Superman Red Son
I love that movie
25:30 That might’ve been the most beautifully articulate explanation of why Batman doesn’t kill that I’ve ever heard in my life thus far.
“The orphan doesn’t want to make more orphans.”
His Batman ain't Batman either.
He was Batman in ZSJL 🤡
Superman was batman in his own movie😂@@Myself_here
@@GrendelsPRIME
LMAO I don’t remember Batman saving the entire world and saving soldiers in a middle of a fight against other gods 💀
I have never seen a very Detailed and Intresting Video on MOS on youtube yet , YOU ARE AWESOME dude !!!!!!
Thankyou for the kind words. I’m happy you enjoyed it.
DCEU never had a chance
The mocap looks like it has improved since the last video, awesome job Shiney 👍
Yeah I now have hands
So basically Henry Cavill played Clark Kunt
He played a proper Clark, not the timid, awkward version which exists only because of the Reeve movies
@gontse7582 I like Cavill but I'm not sure about the proper part. I respect your comment though 😎
Atleast nice to see Joel Schumacher get some appreciation 👍
@@thenoirknight5729 Thanks :)
Man of Steel had no heart. And a Superman movie without heart isn't a Superman movie.
Agree with you . The character wasn’t written as superman.
Well at least my adventures with Superman get who Superman is. A cartoon and live action Tv show got Supes’s character right.
Zack snyder version of superman is superman that quoted in kill bill which is the exact opposite of who superman is 😂
So The thing is honestly this is a Superman who is fundamentally inhuman.
If that's the case why did Clark keep losing his jobs in order to save strangers? Why did he cry when the capitol building blew up?
@@zhengyingli a good question given the rest of the film shows he cares more About Lois and his mom then anyone else
@@honestkyn718 Everybody cares more about the people they're close to. It's a very human trait.
The first time we meet Clark in man of steel, he saves a group of oil rig workers.
@@SpiderJerk2000 Saves oil workers, refused to save his adoptive father, destroyed a guys truck for spilling beer on him. You know, hero stuff.
Here's the proof. www. youtube. com/watch?v=06Qm8cKJ-jo

The best Superman movie is Superman vs The Elite. Highly recommend it to everyone.
James Gunn is going to adapt that
@@karankumar4384Really?
Man of Steel (and the Snyderverse Trilogy, in general) is the embodiment of how cynical and pessimistic the 2010’s were. :/
Ultimately the problem is, this superman going down the road to injustice superman wouldn't be that dramatic a shift. This superman just isn't that good a person
Just asking out of curiosity. So it is wrong to write superman as flawed ?
@suganthram7767 no. It's not wrong to write him flawed. But it's the type of flaws that are important. We never saw this superman go out of his way to save the innocent bystander that gets caught up in the damage from his fight. That's crucial for who superman is as a core character. Oblivious to the damage he helps create is not a flaw that makes superman at all. Smallville showed a very flawed superman, but his core character wanted to save everyone and when people were endangered by his own actions it caused him a tremendous amount of pain.
Thank you! Well explained. Not my Superman. They forked Batman also. DCEU can suck it!
I know. I was going to go over batman however they did superman SO much more dirty and I think while a lot of people have already commented on Batman in the DCEU I don't think as many people have talked about how badly they messed up superman.
@@ShineyFX and I don't think DC characters are gonna get traditional character development or arcs with its current leadership. Trying to be edgy is a dangerous game. It can launch you to the heavens or it can end you.
Out of curiosity, What are your thoughts about Arrowverse Superman, Specifically about the Superman & Lois TV Show?
Thank you someone finally gets it these snyder fans don't understand the character at all and they make excuse after excuse
Or maybe y'alls are just a bunch of gatekeeping man babies who think Superman can't be challenged.
@@SpiderJerk2000 superman can be challenged, but the way he faces these challenges is what makes him superman
The problem is the way Snyder's superman faces his challenges just isn't what the actual superman would do
@@thetempleton6622 what is the actual Superman? Dude has 80 years worth of stories.
I really hope, the new superman movie will do the deal and bring back some good old heroism in media
That goes directly into the Multiverse Superman.. Snyderverse Superman.. The one that kills.. Snyder should've not being given a chance to do this..
