ilov3mus1cx3 Good point, but unfortunately that's Sharp's branding for their panels that use that tech, and we don't really have a more conventional way to classify them :(
Amox I didnt either until i got to use it in tandem. I wouldnt say its required, but its definitely something id give to something like my parents who are now used to touch phones, and poke away at all my screens just assuming things are touch now lol.
***** Amox Once you get used to windows completely while using a touch screen phone, touch screen tablet and then a touch screen laptop on windows, it becomes necessary, sure most can live without touch but for quick clicks/taps, dialog boxes, scrolling through pages/apps, certain metro apps/games, having touch works very well.
***** You watched the video because you probably care about about technology in general....But my point still stands to Amox. It's very ignorant to demean a feature just because you don't use it......this is the age of touchscreens and I guarantee you Macbooks will get a touch interface sometime in the next 3-6 years.....If you are someone who doesn't care about touch on a laptop, good for you, a lot of laptops lack touch, others have touch and if you don't like touch, simply don't use the touchscreen.......but there is no need to state an opinion implying it's some silly feature. smh
+Amox I don't care about touch either. No idea why there are so many gaming laptops that also have a touchscreen. Because of the touchscreen, the display tends to have a glossy finish, which is just terrible for gaming and seeing the screen in general. I rather not have touch(which I don't even use) and have a matte finish instead.
Is 3k needed on 13inch screen? I mean.. I'm using 32 inch tv as my monitor right now that's only 720p, why yes, I'd love 1080p, having 3k on 13 inch? Why you are sitting closer to it, I think it's bit of an overkill and just loss of performance.
You can play your games with 1600x900 easily. Why? Cuz its 2x (it's exact a full number!) lower each side. Which means that you shouldn't see blurry images with that resolution. And 1600x900 is better then for the performance. :) Just with the option to go 3200x1800 too. Which is sick.
OMGBlackst4r 800m series is a mixture of Kepler and Maxwell, some are Kepler, while some are Maxwell. While 900m series, would be full Maxwell. Unless there's some kind of problem that we don't know about.
Did I fell asleep and woke up in some other world like 500 years later? When did touch became "cool"? Touch is retarded as fuck. Each and every day for the past 20 years of using PC I've been learning NOT to touch the screen (and somehow it still gets dirty) so why the HELL I would want to start touching it now?
I love the Futurama reference! PCMR was enough for me, but now with the inclusion of that one Futurama reference you will have me as a sub until death.
Laptop manufactures should start putting huge batteries right behind the Screen Panel, and make the joint for the screen more rigid to handle the extra weight. It'll reduce heat build-up in the hardware and would allow for huge batteries with longer lifetimes
TalesOfWar Wouldn't putting that much weight in the screen make it more fragile? As well as leave less room for a high resolution display. It's a smart idea though but they'd have to overcome a few problems.
nasa444444 More fragile? that's what a metal hinge would be for, less room for a high resolution screen? Did you watch this video? this laptop has an 1800p screen, did you notice how thin the screen is? You can see when Linus moves the Screen the entire thing bends.
NutBlaster 6000 What I mean is the screen itself needs to be transparent while offering a good viewing experience. In other words, the part you look through would still be fragile. Putting a large battery behind it would be a risk for the screen alone. I didn't say anything about the components holding the screen.
AK M while you may not buy this laptop to play these games you might still want to play these games once you bought this laptop for whatever games you actually bought it, if you get what I mean. And I doubt that you'd by another "shitty" laptop just to play these two games
+Nick66234, I don't think a lot of general consumers even use or want a touchscreen laptop. I've seen a lot of people at uni with Surface laptops that don't even use the touch screen or only very occasionally.
Probably to prevent theft, razor shavers are popular amongst shoplifters because they're easy to sell. Kind of why they hang in the cash register area where the workers can keep an eye on them.
They keep the product out in the open in Norway as well, normally in sightline of the cash register area. It was a British Police documentary that made me aware of the trend. This trend is not limited to Britain only.
I was like "Do i hear a background noise ?! Damn its a little annoying, im gonna post a comment about it. 10 seconds later Linus addresses the issue and tells us whats going on (laptop fans)" +1 Linus :D
This is why I went with a Clevo laptop (P150EM) for gaming and video editing. I honestly don't care for thin and light notebooks when it comes to having high end mobile hardware. It has a 1080P screen in either 72% gamut or 95%, R9 M290X (basically a desktop 7870, or nvidia 780M instead) and a core i7 3632QM (or higher, going for an MX chip here soon), 4 slots for 32GB total RAM and a battery, while not huge, that will last about 2 hours of browsing when the dGPU is off and the CPU running it's lowest power state (1600mhz) There is a limit when going too small. Either you get slow hardware, or high temps and a noisy fan that cant keep up. I'm not bragging, but you get a much better mobile computing experience if you throw out the thin and light factor.
If you're someone that is away from home a lot or that game with others frequently in different locations, a gaming laptop is fantastic. College students come to mind.
Dave Riley I wouldn't be so sure about that, seems like the gpu can actually perform adequately on 3k. Hmmm, if an 870m can do that, how well would a gtx970 handle 4k? From what I've heard a 880m is around as powerful as a gtx760.
ValidTutsNgameplays I believe he's saying that razors in Australia aren't locked behind glass in shops so you don't have to ask - which is only true if you use horrible razors. All the more pricey stuff is locked up around this area anyway (Melbourne).
Ian A I've been looking at laptops to run the latest games at high fps. Do you guys think i5-4210H and GTX 970M will be enough to run Minesweeper because after seeing footage online I've considered going for the i7-4710MQ. Really want to be be able to play this game.
85 GPU and 90+ on the CPU out of the box, add a little grime and dust in there and you'll have to clean it every week to prevent thermals getting too high
4:58 Bender, get out of Linus' body! My only gripes with touchscreen controls are when they are the ONLY means of input on a device. *loud cough* _iPhone_ *cough* Now when touchscreens _add_ to the control _without_ the removal of physical buttons (I love the PS Vita for that), you've got me sold.
Nice review linus. I just don't like laptop hardware that heats up to about 90 C. Id keep the Asus ROG J750 JS. I guess I'll wait for 900m Maxwell GPU's and Broadwell E mobile CPU chips XD. How long will they take to release?
What a laptop! I would place it next to a large TV and use wireless keyboard and mouse to play games on the TV. But, I would prefer it with a 1080p screen to lower the cost and put that money into more RAM/SSD.
i know you said not to complain about the touch ting but i feel as though if it's not advertised it shouldn't be expected. personally i think touch is good for tables and drawing but i have yet to see one actually do it right besides wacom.
Why is the touch screen a problem? It's an addition you know, except it adds a little up in the price. Well, the problem I can see using this laptop is the screen cannot bend back far enough. That would suck because I am a tall person and I need laptops to push the display back enough But I like the exhaust and ports on the back a lot. Really makes it much cooler. I also like the front DVD panel from the Gigabyte P43G V2 with an included caddy. I like how Gigabyte stand out differently, but just they have some quirks every time which could've been solved by some little design changes.
Love it! Equip it with a Maxwell GPU (GTX970M) and you have a winner right there :) I am just waiting for Intel broadwell to pull the trigger on a Gaming Laptop.
Linus, have you seen how similar the Lenovo Ideapad Y50 and Aorus X7 look? Same keyboard layout, same trackpad and trackpad location, same beast-looking fake vents at the back of the laptop, same vents behind the hinge holding the screen, same style hinge holding up the screen and same specs (apart from the 860M SLI, the y50 only has one 860M which is a 4GB or 2GB (Maxwell)).
Touch is a PLUS. but without it in a gaming laptop is something you wont miss. i like touch on convertible laptops. but i don't see the needs on a gaming one.
The keyboard on my computer has the same problem, but NOBODY gets it, when I try to explain it to them. Thank you Linus, now I can just show them this and prove that I'm not crazy! Or at least as crazy as you
+Robert Presti - The first 9m12s is dedicated to the review, with last 2m30s with an ad about 1m54s long to help pay the bills. Would you prefer they pasted the "Dollar Shave Club" ad in the middle, breaking up the review? This isn't a one man business pumping out half assed videos every day, there are a group of employees to be paid and Google adsense is probably getting worse as time goes on, so ad placements are just par for the course now I'm afraid.
this laptop looks nice and all and if i want a laptop i would think about this one tho the big black boarder on the bottom of the screen is a deal breaker i really dont like it at all
GTX 870M is basically around GTX 750 speed, so why the heck did they put 6GB on it? I mean for that resolution they could get away with just 3GB at least because the GPU isn't all that powerful anyways.
The screen wobble when Linus was typing doesn't sit well with me. My 4 year old Dell that was moderately priced doesn't do it, so I wouldn't expect a high end laptop to do so.
Very nice laptop with plenty of power but my pop just bought a msi gt70 and the Aorus has enough down falls to get me to sway more towards the msi gt70 my .02 cents
So I really love this laptop and the only thing I'm worried about is the resolution. I play skyrim a lot and will the resolution be compatible? Aka not a little box screen
I don't think this laptop should have touch as its so gamer oriented, but I would have loved to see touch on the Asus ROG 501jk. That's the only thing making me choose the Razer blade 14 over the ROG.
hey - im looking at getting the aorus x3 plus (which has the 870M graphics chip). I will use the laptop mostly for travel and editing video / photography (not much for gaming at all). My main question is - should i wait until the X3 comes out with the 970 chip ? My main concern is battery life, if the new 970 chip gives way better battery life i should wait - but does it give much better battery life on non gaming applications? or is it only for when u play games due to frame limiting? i.e. how much life would i gain running adobe premier pro rendering video editing etc? let me know ASAP, cheers!
That is the BEST LOOKING gaming laptop i ever seen yes looks matter . From the sharp edges around the screen the nice slim keyboard which reminds me of a sabertooth keyboard this beast looks like a fresh hair cut. expensive i suggest lenovo these days even though they are almost the ugliest laptops around i am not a fan of its 3D polygonal looking cover.
1:00 rip laptop
+Dirk Bogan NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO DA LAPTOP
+Dirk Bogan cant stop laughing
+Dirk Bogan hahahaha
+Dirk Bogan oh the screen flashed!
+Dirk Bogan I saw that.
There are no IGZO displays.
IGZO is short for indium-gallium-zinc-oxyde and it's a material for transistors.
ilov3mus1cx3 Good point, but unfortunately that's Sharp's branding for their panels that use that tech, and we don't really have a more conventional way to classify them :(

thank you. dearly
Linus you can spend extra cash on stupid features like touch all you want, but I'd prefer companies save those costs for something actually useful.
Yeap,
1. Proper cooling
2. Usb 3.1
3. Display port 1.2, hdmi 2.0, dual link dvi.( yes even dvi :P )
4. IPS 1ms 1440p resolution 120hz screen. THEN i'm happy.
Raymond Tyson THat makes no sense. 120hz? That costs too much considering its overly unlikely for a laptop to get past 60fps
Navhkrin There are laptops GPUs that can pust games at max past 120hz, let alone 60hz.
Touch is REALLY useful I use it all the time on my laptops been though I also use a wire less mouse with it only down side are finger print
Navhkrin At 1080p, laptop GPU's can far exceed 60 fps while maxing out games.
4:55 YES FUTURAMA REFERENCE, I LOVE YOU EVEN MORE LINUS. I DIDNT KNOW THAT WAS EVEN POSSIBLE
I personally don't give 2 shits about touch.
Rayudu Eshwar Yeah I've been watching laptop videos lately.

iMrzifyyy quadruple
Yeo Zhi Long no not really it´s just 3200x1800 divided to two.
It is indeed an overkill, I think 1080 is quite enough.
That's until we get way more powerful HW.

OMGBlackst4r not exactly. It's a mix of both Kepler and Maxwell. Not to say Kepler is bad.
But the GK104 is sorta dated at this point.
HCK Gaming didn't know it was a mix as all i have ever heard about the 800m serioes is that it is the maxwell architecture
I really like the new highlighting with the red squares, keep that up!

What's wrong with touch? You don't have to use it.
You're*
Rambi Ninethousand Paying extra for something you don't want and will never use. Touch should be optional for an extra price.

Uh what. 4:37 this IS an IPS panel. What are you talking about??? It's the exact same panel used in the Blade 14 just Matte instead of Glossy.
No keypad?
What a shame.
Don't get me wrong but a lot of games require a numpad. Vice city and San Andreas for example
im sure people who are in the market for this laptop wont be playing gta vice city or SA. My shitty 400 dollar laptop can play those games

AK M dayz uses num pad.
Aorus x7 has keypad
4:15 finish was spelt wrong, minor mistake but dont worry linus keep up the good content :D
I would trade a matte screen for my touch capabilities.
+Nick66234 you mean BECAUSE it's a gaming laptop
+Nick66234, I don't think a lot of general consumers even use or want a touchscreen laptop.
I've seen a lot of people at uni with Surface laptops that don't even use the touch screen or only very occasionally.
4:13 is the screen set at 3200 x1800 ??=?? it looks like its on 800x 600.... only like 5 icons fit on the screen..
Hey just made everything really big.
They've cranked the dpi settings in Windows up. 8:39 is 3K native.
Cakefish you do know you can also just increase the icon size?
it's only 13 inch display
2:28 was that a voice crack?
hahahahahha
Look's really good. It's as strong as my PC pretty much. If you include the SSD but I do have 3 monitors
That moment when you realise a laptop is stronger than your stationary PC...

buy a mac at this price and youll get these specs:

Gotta love that 'Matte Finsih'. I poke at you because I love you. Great review as always.
Why are razor shavers in canada locked behind glass in the store over here its hanging by the cash register for anyone to pick up and choose from
Probably to prevent theft, razor shavers are popular amongst shoplifters because they're easy to sell. Kind of why they hang in the cash register area where the workers can keep an eye on them.
***** Same for Britain!
***** Same in Australia
Very high dollar to size ratio.
Easy to steal, easy to sell in the street to some random guy @ 50% off.
They keep the product out in the open in Norway as well, normally in sightline of the cash register area. In Britain organized gangs raid shops during the week for razor shavers, batteries and cosmetic products and sell it cheap at weekend markets. What is the point of 3K resolution on a 13.9" screen?
Your face is really close to it, so it makes a big difference. Same reason why you'd want a 1080p screen on a 5" phone.
I agree with linus. I love having touchscreen on both my laptops alienware 15 and razer blade 14. It's also useful on windows 10.
has a 3k screen and i7 and the keyboard makes a wierd sound...
first world problems
Great review! Typo though at 4:18, "Finsih" lol.
I really don't understand the point of a laptop for gaming. It's outstandingly pointless to have to be plugged into to get an acceptable experience.
What about portability
If you're someone that is away from home a lot or that game with others frequently in different locations, a gaming laptop is fantastic. College students come to mind.
Thomas Riddle Not really, it makes more sense to just make a mini itx pc.
Sean Wilson Cause people bring mini itx desktops to their lectures or meetings right?
SuperDiljot you can get chromebook for that no need gaming laptop :)
4:53 Love the Futurama "Black Jack and hookers" reference xD

What's the point having 2k/3k gaming laptop?
for people that want high def screens on a laptop
More beautiful screen for all activities, and remember, not all games are demanding, even at 3k/4k setting. And ah, 1080p is close to 2k.
I still don't find that 2/3k is the best.
Dave Riley I wouldn't be so sure about that, seems like the gpu can actually perform adequately on 3k. Hmmm, if an 870m can do that, how well would a gtx970 handle 4k? From what I've heard a 880m is around as powerful as a gtx760.
Well for playing Arma 2 for example, you can spot enemies much eaiser without pixel hunting, giving you an advantage.
Moving heat heavy components to anywhere but ASDW or the mouse pad. Simple yet brilliant.
lol for you guys over here in Australia you do not have to ask to get razors lol

No
Moolaw OutCow Naveen is right, You will need a desktop build to get a good frame rate on that. I can recommend you some if you want.

The Futurama reference was killer! GG Linus
Very good! Good delivery! Thanks for being entertaining! :)
dayum you for hitting the beauty of technology 1:00
at 8:03 the chart says Crysis 3, but the footage is actually Crysis 1. just FYI
First time on your site, superb job! I trust you absolutely re my high end laptop purchase.
I don't know what a matte "Finsih" is, but it sounds cool! 4:16
Loved the Benderism you put in there!
HUGE thumbs up for the Futurama reference!
Nice review linus. I just don't like laptop hardware that heats up to about 90 C. Id keep the Asus ROG J750 JS. I guess I'll wait for 900m Maxwell GPU's and Broadwell E mobile CPU chips XD. How long will they take to release?
YES FUTURAMA REFERENCE. You're amazing Linus.
1:00 Reminds me of when I hit my laptop screen to the wall while watching netflix, the laptop was only 2 days old.
4:15 noticed a spelling error: 'finsih'....

That screen was so amazing that the matte finish became a matte finsih.
Dayum son.
Those specs are insane for such a slim compact laptop ^^ me likes!
The "MATTE FINSIH" at 4:18 made me laugh.
+1 for the cooling ....... i wish thin laptops like those could fit HHDs tho ..... so we have more storage at a much cheaper price
I have no idea what you expect. This thing is 2cm thick. How do you want to place radiators inside that small thing. I think the performance is great.
this laptop looks nice and all and if i want a laptop i would think about this one tho the big black boarder on the bottom of the screen is a deal breaker i really dont like it at all
4:16. Finsih?
Awesome Futurama reference there Linus :)
Too excited till misspelt finish.
Wow this laptop is fucking awesome
Nice review and a really nice laptop...would like to see it up close.
Wish I could have one :/
Btw great review, keep it up :)
GTX 870M is basically around GTX 750 speed, so why the heck did they put 6GB on it? I mean for that resolution they could get away with just 3GB at least because the GPU isn't all that powerful anyways.
That Futurama reference got you a like. :)
The screen wobble when Linus was typing doesn't sit well with me. My 4 year old Dell that was moderately priced doesn't do it, so I wouldn't expect a high end laptop to do so.
Please review the lenovo y-series. I want to see your views on them before i buy. They seem to have a great balance between price and power.
0:10 Linus you use the same wallpaper as me. That mountains are in norway
Worthy note is that the x3-prime, not the plus, has a lower res display, which runs games WAY better at native res (2560x1440). Really runs a treat!
gotta love that DIY turning table :'D
I don't think this laptop should have touch as its so gamer oriented, but I would have loved to see touch on the Asus ROG 501jk. That's the only thing making me choose the Razer blade 14 over the ROG.
Nice laptop. Keep up the good work.
hey - im looking at getting the aorus x3 plus (which has the 870M graphics chip).
It's out now! Enjoy!
DO A COMPARISON OF THE NEW AORUS X3 AND COMPARE THERMALS AS WELL AS OTHER ASPECTS THAT MIGHT HAVE CHANGED
4:17 LOOK GUYS! THE SCREEN IS MATTE FINSIH! dont kill me linus
