Growing up in Ireland during the 'Troubles', rallying was my escape. There wasn't a weekend I wasn't at some event either spectating, officiating (BMRMC) or later competing. I grew up with the exploits of the Vatenen's, Mikkola's, Moutron's, Rohrl's and of course McRae, Brooks, Coleman, Fisher, McHale et al. All of whom I met at some point. There was another McRae, or two, who came along later, but Jimmy was the premier hero, and still is in my book. Thank you so much Jimmy for all those wonderful memories, and for the photos I took and still have, from Chevette, Ascona, Manta, Metro, and Cosworth days.
Thanks so much for uploading this. Often overlooked by the exploits of Colin, Jimmy McRae is most definitely a rallying legend. His rivalry with Russell Brookes in particular was great to follow.
I met this great man at SMT in Perth in the 70's and DTV at that time . He is a far greater human being than a driver and he is a fantastic driver. Most people talk about Colin but Jimmy is far superior, he fully engages his brain when driving which gave him a very good end result and he is a very polite Gentleman too. Id love to meet him again to chat about the old days.
Awesome 👏 insightful memories, I have one myself I’m 44 now but back in 94 me and my father Charles Wilson who knew Jimmy met up at Carinbaan Lochgilphead Argyll Jimmy was with a very young Alastair and we all watched a very young Colin tare through the Argyll rally in his SMT sponsored Nova!
Thanks so Much brilliant to see...met him in Mayo ireland in 2022 at a Dèjà vu drive got small interview, he finished with 7 Circuit of Ireland wins 4 of the Marathon and 3 of Shorter ones@paddy Sullivan VHS 📼 1990s Cork ireland
