Berserkers actually did wear armor, usually equipped with the best one they could afford, the thing is that in battle the most visible thing would be the animal pelts which would cover the armor, thus the British tales of warriors equipped with nothing but pelts.

They were trained from young ages to defend them selves and family when their dads and or mothers (shieldmaidens) were out. Around the age of 12-14 they'd pledge loyalty to their Jarl (lord/chief) they're now considered men and practice to prepare for raids and war against other vikings. But in the end they were a agricultural society that mostly relied on their crops and only raided when in need of money for trade with other viking settlements, and later England, France and Arabic states because as you know: the language of gold and silver is spoken everywhere in the world.

I've studied both Japanese as well as Norse culture and I will say that over the past few years I fell more towards the side of the Norse culture and I am extremely obsessed with the Berzerkers. But with that comes a lot of different theories and I know that there are two main types of berserkers which were 1.The obvious Berserkers (Bear Coats) and 2.Ulfhednar (Wolf Coats) mostly known as Odin's Special Warriors. Ulfhednar were said to be agile, quick and very strategic hence the reason they were Odin's Special Warriors. The Berserkers were as you described, but it the case of the Bear Coats there have been several studies leaning towards amanita muscaria playing a huge roll in their behavior. The statements were that before battle, their ritual of protection and victory also consisted of consuming the mushrooms which were described as "putting them in a trance-like fury" and also worked as a stimulant giving them the ability to move at "Superhuman speeds" and already being strong, now it's rage and speed on their side. I always had a theory about accounts of ancient hound warriors described as human/dog hybrid beings that were insanely violent and had speeds no human could match. I almost wonder if translation got distorted along the lines or if people were so traumatized by the behavior of the ulfhednar that they literally believed they saw human/dog hybrids in battle.

Also, the Samurai had a detailed understanding of human anatomy, and had knowledge on things such as pressure points. As did the ancient Chinese... We are given a window into that truth through the design of the katana.

In the deadliest warrior series this club was capable of shattering a Viking shield and quite possibly breaking the forearm. Samurais were employed mostly as mounted archers and berserks are shock infantry. If they meet head on, berserkers are likely to rout the samurai line. But the samurais have mobility and range at their disposal, and they should be able to choose a favourable engagement. One on one, it is really hard to say, as the Vikings usually carry large shield, and the Yumi as accurate and powerful it is will have a hard time getting pass the shield.

There's one more factor that this video leaves out: intelligence. The berserker may have the samurai beat in brute strength and physicality, but in his frenzied state, he's little more than a wild animal with almost no capacity for complex strategy or tactics whatsoever. This, of course, is something the samurai can easily exploit, especially with his bow. Furthermore, the samurai had other weapons he can use against the berserker, including the kanabo, with which he can damage the berserker's shield and break his shield arm, if not pulverize him outright.
