    Got this done yesterday and it's life changing. The first 4 hours post-op were very uncomfortable after the local anesthesia wore off but then it rapidly healed and I was able to do everything without any problems. Waking up this morning with 10/10 vision was amazing, I can't believe I can see normally without thinking about it

      Thanks for sharing. I had this procedure earlier today. I agree that the first few hours post-op were definitely very uncomfortable, like having a continual stream of lemon juice squirted into both eyes. :D
      My vision is already a lot better than it was before, and I hope to wake up 10/10 like you did tomorrow!

    Had both eyes done by Professor Dan yesterday & I'm writing this without having to wear glasses for the first time in 25 years. An amazing experience from start to finish and Dan knows how to keep things completely chilled and relaxed. I honestly didn't feel a thing, no pain at all. Already totally life-changing a little over 24 hours post operation. I knew Prof Dan was the best in the business so was completely relaxed and this may sound weird but I couldn't wait to get started and found the whole experience fascinating as it moved along... no discomfort at all, and it was all over as quickly as it began. Professor Dan and the whole team are amazing, relentless with their testing pre op and on the phone checking up on you after. If you have the opportunity to work with this remarkable team, grab it with both hands, you will thank me, and of course huge thanks to the Sax playing master of ceremonies himself, Professor Dan. I sat in an exam room for about 40 minutes to let them kick in. I went into surgery seeing 20/425. They put in numbing drops. The worst part was the pressure seal to cut the flap. It wasn’t horrible. The laser flashing was loud like jumper cables touching/sparking for about 20 seconds. I could smell a burnt oil smell for a few seconds (my eye lens). Immediately after it was like walking in heavy bright fog. The immediate eye pain that followed wasn’t too unbearable. I took some ibuprofen and took a 2-hour nap. 24 hrs later I was seeing 20/40, still hazy/foggy. Now 47 hrs later I’m seeing 20/25 and the hazy/foggy/halo effects are still here but they’re slowly decreasing. Probably TMI but I hope it helps.

    I had the exact same procedure done today, using a slightly different device. Recovering surprisingly fast, though I'm typing this while wearing sunglasses.
    There is still significant glare around bright lights but this is expected.
    The procedure was almost entirely paintless, but the LASIK machine does exert significant pressure on the eyes and while bearable, this is definitely uncomfortable.
    In my experience, the most unpleasant part of the ordeal were the 2 - 3 hours immediately following surgery. Once the painkillers start wearing off it feels like you're cutting onions while getting lemon juice squirted into your eyes. During this time I found it difficult to even open my eyes. Fortunately this sensation only lasts a couple of hours, after which most irritation will subside and vision will noticeably improve.
    Its been only 5 hours and my vision is already substantially better than it has been over the past 25 years. So far so good!

    • @isabelcampos6152
      @isabelcampos6152 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey I noticed it’s been a month after your lasik. How’s your vision? Did your vision eventually became clear and sharp? Or do you still see a bit hazy? I have a week since I did my surgery, I probably see about 90% better but I don’t see things as clear/sharp which makes me a bit dizzy and I’m getting a lot of headaches.

    • @TehNetherlands
      @TehNetherlands 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@isabelcampos6152 I assume that you also get periodic checkups? The optometrist or eye surgeon should inspect your eyes during regular follow-ups. I got checked 1 day post-op, 1 week and 1 month to monitor the healing process. Next checkup will be at 3 months post-op, 6 months and 1 year.
      Recovery speed can vary from person to person. It depends on the type of treatment you had, your age, your eye properties, the amount of correction and a number of other factors. It can even vary a lot between the left and right eye.
      My right eye recovered faster than my left eye and vision in that eye was at 120% within a day. My left eye was at 90% and blurry. It took about a week before its vision was similar to my right eye.
      I had another test done today (4 weeks post-op) and vision in both eyes was measured at 140% (this is related to eye resolution, basically our ability to distinguish small details).
      There's an important thing to note here: LASIK surgery does not improve this resolution, it corrects astigmatism and myopia, which allows you to see to the full potential of your eyes.
      My corrected vision before treatment was measured at 150%, so for it to be uncorrected at 140% now suggests that it is almost fully healed.
      The only noticeable symptom is that my eyes are a little dry and still require several artificial tear drops ever day. This could last another few months.
      To answer your question: my vision is now sharp and clear. It took about a week to 'clear up', but for some people this can take longer, up to a month or more. Generally, the older you are, the longer it takes to heal.
      Its very important to stick to your artificial tear & antibiotic eye drop schedule.
      If one or both eyes are under/over-corrected, then this should be apparent by 6 months, and additional treatment might be needed. This is very unlikely, but its possible.
      There's no way to tell until your eyes are fully healed.

The closest Ive been was trying contact lenses, but I never got past wearing just one as I just couldnt get them on and off. Just the one good eye without glasses was amazing. I dont know what it feels like to have good vision on both eyes. Im pretty sure I would start crying. Im also pretty sure I would start crying just before going in. I just had the surgery yesterday. This is amazing to see from this POV. It went just a shown on the video. BUT a little rough if you are claustrophobic during COVID-19. I wanted to panic because I didn't want to accidentally move my eye and ruin everything. A lot of mental pressure mixed with the eye being physically restrained. Wearing a mask didn't help the situation since it made it harder to breathe. I had to "man-up" and remained relaxed as possible. My eye is still healing (day2). Nothing out of the ordinary. An amazing outcome compared to decades of wearing contacts/eye glasses.

      The machine they used for my surgery tracks the eye in all spatial dimensions at very high temporal resolution (>1khz).
      Even the slightest micrometre-scale movement will get detected and compensated for.
      Also keep in mind that your head is fixated and the device applies significant pressure to your eye to keep it from moving.
      To give you an idea of the accuracy by which it tracks: I could not wear a covid-mask because the turbulence of the warm air behing exhaled along the edge of the mask will be detected by the machine, so it will refuse to engage the laser due to this miniscule disturbance.
      These machines have extremely low tolerances by which they operate.

    I still have shivers down my spine whenever I think about someone operating on my eyes, even though many sources claim that LASIK isn't painful at all. Partly because of a horrible experience back when I was a kid. If I remember correctly, my parents took me to an ophthalmologist to have an eyelid cyst removed. I can't remember if he used an anesthetic on me or not because I was so young, but I do remember that I had a meltdown in the operation room. I was hurt both physically and mentally. I was crying, screaming, and everything. He claimed that I can be distracted from the pain if he kept talking to me. Excuse me? I wasn't even ten years old back then. Who in the right mind would think that a distraction talk can suppress pain?
