  • Former San Francisco Mayor Mark Farrell filed paperwork with the Department of Elections this week to challenge Mayor London Breed. He said one of the first things he would do if elected, would be to fire San Francisco's Chief of Police Bill Scott.

      The last mayor that did not win a second term was Frank Jordan in 1995. He lost to Willie Brown who was termed out of the State Assembly and was considered by many to be one of the most powerful African American politicians in the country.

      Local government positions in the state of California do not run under a political party affiliation on the ballot. The congressional district of San Francisco has always been Democratic since 1949.

    I can't blame him. Robbery is pretty bad in the Mission area for long time. Probably committing by the same robbers over and over. SFPD needs to step up and arrest them instead of ignoring them.

      SFPD knows all the local criminals and arrests them often. The problem is when they're in jail and get seen by a judge, they get released on no cash bail. Between judges being too lenient and laws in effect that the voters themselves put into effect, it's a constant revolving door.

      I saw a report that it was something like 700 people responsible for 90% of the crime in NYC, probably the same story in SF.

      Probably. Whenever I read the crimes report in the Mission area, the robberies took place within 6-7 blocks in the same neighborhood and usually in the late evening or very early in the morning. You see the pattern and you can conclude that the crimes being committed by just a few people in that neighborhood. Police probably have their descriptions from victims and should be able to identify them because they are walking around at late night and early morning hours where very few people are on the street.

      We are talking about robbery, not shoplifting. Robbery is a felony. I don't see how judges let robbers off the hook so easily. From crime report, it involves gun or knife which is a serious matter.

      Mark was actually good as interim mayor in 2018. He added funding to pd whereas breed defunded them in 2020 as mayor.

    It all sounds promising but unless there is an encampment ban (like in NYC) and a way around NIMBYs to pushing back on intake centers, how will it work? You can't make people do anything or go anywhere they don't want to, is my understanding.

    All the Supervisors need to go.They all voted for the Irish Cultural Center rebuild.The new chrome and glass building is 4 blocks from the beach,newly named The Cultural center on 45/Wawoma.Underground parking and swimming pool. On the same block 4 small apartment buildings,a cafe and motel.What insurance company would issue insurance that there would be no damage to the buildings on the block?The Irish Cultural Center gave an award to Breed.Not 1 person in the small audience was Asian,only 1 black photographer.This building is in a neighborhood more than 50% Asian.I believe this is for rezoning so something else will be built there or some sort of land grab that will make insiders very rich.
