    I was fortunate to attend that performance, and it was quite memorable. Goodbye Guitar night. I’m so happy someone recorded this.

    Hey Andy, what a great video! You sound great! What is amazing is that John sounds great, too, at around 88 years old. When we’ve lost so many of our musical heroes way too soon. I know Joe Negri is still playing at around 95 in Pittsburgh. These Italian guitar players. I’m half Italian. Need to go practice and have a glass of red wine😉

    I hadn’t heard John in years but ran across the 1957 movie “The Sweet Smell of Success” on TCM last night and luckily caught a snippet of the music and stopped changing channels. The movie is about a gossip columnist loosely based on Walter Winchell. But a major character is a jazz guitar player played by Martin Milner. The real Chico Hamilton Band is the group playing in several scenes in the movie and some of the heads on the tunes were way up tempo angular melodies that are extremely unfriendly to execute on guitar. It turns out it was John Pisano who was the guitar player pulling off those lines though Milner played the role in movie. There’s a beautiful 1954 D’Angelico Excel that Milner pretends to play during the band scenes.

    Andy Brown has been one of my favorite players for years now. So happy to see him here with John. Have written about John many times and enjoy dinner at his house whenever I'm in L.A. He's as terrific a host as he is a guitar player. And few people know that John's hands are actually larger than Tal's. :-) Also, you can see those hands on film, playing for actor Martin Milner, in The Sweet Smell of Success.

      Thank you Jim! Good to see you name...I'm actually re-reading your book at the moment. Love it!!

      Thanks so much, Andy. You're an extraordinary player and was so happy to know you were invited to Guitar Night. Yes, it's a big deal that many consider a right of passage. Do I recall that you were living in Chicago? Sometimes my memory turns to Swiss cheese. And thanks for the kind words about my book. Good to be in touch. :-) @@AndyBrownJazzGuitar

    Hi Andy, lovely playing! I really like your tone as well. Is that a customized Eastman AR371ce you are playing?

    • @AndyBrownJazzGuitar
      @AndyBrownJazzGuitar  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glad you enjoyed it! You are correct about the guitar, it was a custom one that belongs to John. He was nice enough to loan it to me so I didn’t have to fly with a guitar, a dream for a guitarist.
